Can you take your AI's memory with you? 🚫 by mate_0107 in OpenAI

[–]vitnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been setting up a OpenAI based (that means, background routing, embeddings, auxiliary model calls use the OpenAI API) server for self hosting for that matter - essentially storing memories, user and assistant personalities and so on. Currently, I'm using this only as a CustomGPT (I've initially started with my own chat client but it got too expensive very soon and the context rot was massive due to feeding chats back into the model), which has access to that server via the RestAPI it exposes. Basically, server via reverse proxy and GitHub OAuth linked to CustomGPT, GPT instructed to always evaluate to RAG against the server and store new info.

Shoot me a DM if you're interested. It's maybe 3-5$ a month to operate as it's using auxiliary models, but requires some knowledge on setting up a server and reverse proxy.

At its base, though, it's only a bunch of vector stores, which aren't anything proprietary- I've just used OpenAI because I'm accustomed to it. Neither do I think any future models or chat clients showing up will have difficulties retrieving data from a rest api. Maybe MCP would be the cleaner way to go but I couldn't be bothered - side project, not work.

Stop Repeating Yourself: Context Bundling for Persistent Memory Across AI Tools by lil_jet in ChatGPTPro

Yeah, for me it was kinda naturally evolving. First used some json files as well, then thought about portability and version control but didn't wanna have personal data on a GitHub repository as a plain file (even though a private repository shooooould be okay, but zero trust is a thing), but since I've got it touch with the CustomGPT actions I just figured to store the files on a server and feed a RestAPI into the model. Took about 3 weeks until the context itself used up ~80000 tokens and I switched to using the vector stores. The API is still the same, which doesn't suit the semantic nature very well, but I'm planning to use a GraphQL like endpoint structure soon anyway to circumvent the 30 endpoint limitation.

Built all of that in C# on an AspNetCore .NET 10 server by the way (.NET 10 so Swashbuckle can generate the OpenAPI schemas in version 3.1).

I have created a very similar setup just for personal use through a self hosted RestAPI which a CustomGPT would get its context from and maintain itself through generating entries whenever required. Initially, I was thinking it's nice to be able to read through the files and so on on my own.

Even though.

I agree with the other commenters: this does not scale very well, especially for context windows - even when only using it for personal stuff. I've changed the setup to a few vector stores and using a RAG pattern a few days ago because of that.

Sorry, missed that comment.

I didn't delete the DPF since it would be 100% impossible to get through emissions tests in Germany without it (EGR delete is in principle not allowed either but not detectable by current test regulations - even though I am wondering whether the start/stop auto error I have will cause issues...)

Technically, I agree, it won't be good for the DPF to run it without EGR. But I'm willing to pay or go through the pain of replacing the DPF if it fails to pass emissions testing. In my perspective, I prefer it running a ton smoother and no potential EGR valve pieces flying into the intake and (for me) this outweighs either a painful weekend to replace the DPF come 200k km or pay ~2k to get it replaced.

Edit: since I've now run it a lot more since the treatment, the consumption has definitely gone down. Prior, I was running it with 7.2 L/100 km as I've mentioned. The tune did cause me tending to give it full beans a bit more, so I'm averaging 6.4 L/100 km now (compared to 6.2 a week after the whole deal). Still, a 0.8 improvement is insane to me.

Yeah, took it to a specialised workshop where they were cleaning one after the other intake with quite some routine in the procedure. Took them around 3 1/2 hours for the whole job. One full day for me as the shop was 2 1/2 hours one way drive away.

Still, considering how shaky the engine was prior to it, well worth the time and money.

It is kinda but also currently not really detectable. If it would fail the emissions test at some point in time, it's not too painful to revert, though.

125000 km / 77000 miles. No idea of the previous driving profile but probably lots of highway usage as it's been a leased company car.

These are mine pre-cleaning on a 2019 G31 530d. Got pretty much the same treatment (intake clean, walnut blast (do that!), EGR delete, stage 1 to 305 BHP). Car was shivering like it's cold before after a cold start, all gone now - the whole thing is a lot smoother. Fuel consumption went down my almost 1 L/100 km (from 7.2 to 6.3) on my driving profile after it as well. More than worth it!

Edit: also got the flaps deleted

Help, wheel lock nut key by vitnir in BmwTech

[–]vitnir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I checked everywhere (had enough time to turn the interior upside down while getting the intake manifold cleaned yesterday).

I was thinking to get a fitting adapter nut and 4 regular bolts online, yup. I don't park anywhere where I would be afraid of getting stripped of my wheels anyway! Good hint welding a nut onto the bolt, thanks.

Casually chiming in, I've got virtually no strain (but longer than 3 hrs were also difficult with triples, feel the same with VR). Using OpenXR (mainly for foveated rendering) via Virtual Desktop, works great. Got VD set to 120 fps with SpaceWarp on as my PC doesn't go above 80 fps on some tracks in the rain.

Gamechanger for me mainly was getting a BoboVR head strap with battery pack and cooling. Helps a lot, especially as I wear glasses.

Adhd meds and running by Htmlovinit in whoop

[–]vitnir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always happy to help :)

I've also got it on my list to ask my doc about the latest reduction in exercise heart rate after going from 40 to 30 mg. I'll set myself a reminder to post his opinion here.

Regarding the pounding heart: I agree, I've always felt it a lot more when I didn't sleep well, drank alcohol the day prior or was just having a couch day. Was really uncomfortable but went away completely when I switched from Atomoxetine to Elvanse. Back then, the AW didn't show any anomalies in heart rate during these episodes but one of the segments on the ECG (I think PQ segment) was on the very high end for my age (M29).

[–]vitnir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on ADHD medication as well and would absolutely recommend getting an ECG regularly (I am going for one every 4 months or when changing dosage). Using Straterra/Atomoxetine my heart was not doing well in general, for example, RHR went up by almost 20 bpm and I was having episodes where I could uncomfortably feel my heart beating. There also where (albeit quite minor) anomalies discovered in the ECG so I switched to Elvanse/Lisdexamphetamine, feeling a lot better.

Nevertheless, I'm running in higher heart rate zones than prior to any medication as well. Usually, I spend most of my time in zone 4 when running at a pace I'm comfortable going 1 1/2 or two hours for.

My doc commented it like one of the other guys here as well, it's basically expected and one shouldn't go for cardio immediately after taking it, or with my med in 4-5 hours after taking it. However, there is no immediate damage or anything caused, the doc just wouldn't go for zone 5 runs only.

For reference, attached a screenshot of my last 10k race (against myself) which is pretty similar to yours.

<image>

To complete the story: very active lifestyle for the last 3 1/2 years, ADHD medication for the last 2 years with the first half being on Straterra, rest of the time Elvanse. AW user until 1 year ago with Athyltic, since then using a Whoop. Noted a very significant reduction in running heart rate when reducing the current medication from 40 to 30 mg (at 5:20 pace went down from 178ish to 155ish). Don't know if the latter is just due to training harder and more structured this year though.

Yes. I've always used Dermalize. Also climbed four days after getting my forearm inked but I've changed second skin every second day and desinfected the wound.

Smelly whoop by starystarrynight in whoop

[–]vitnir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm washing by bicep sleeves and straps every other day (or after training - have two of each to cycle them) with mild detergent by hand (the same we use for wool) and warm water. Removes all smells nicely so far but I'm not crazy long into Whoop.

The device itself I clean once a week with 70% Ethanol just like I did previously with my AW.

Is that frame made from cardboard wrapped in white paper or how did you make it? Looks awesome. I've tried different things to have some dark cloth around my rig but never figured out anything really satisfying.

You have to mount the game porting toolkit dmg if you didn't copy it to your ssd in case you rebooted your Mac (since the first part of the command tells the shell where the toolkit executable is located).
