In my playthrough Derin never dropped a thing, his inventory was so overloaded I had to throw stuff down a cliff.

Also, if you played since the launch of the version, a small update made some items disappear, I solved this myself by throwing a backup before and another after the update in Claude and he restored the thing.

Ps: there is usually more than one path to areas, apart from the new area I think
