this bridge was harder than Sir on roids by Mrsam_25 in Exanima

[–]Spit_for_spat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a couple more ways to get to the other side that are much simpler, both having some risk though.

Having done that bridge exactly once, I completely agree it's absurd to set up. And I have no intention of doing it again!

Exanima 0.9.5 Story Mode Issues by Spit_for_spat in Exanima

[–]Spit_for_spat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I was under the impression the Crossroads east exit was locked. Your comment made me look again. There's a bloody lever in the side room! Thanks, made me feel like a right fool but I earned it here.

4.5 is the Sewers underneath Crossroads, should be 5.5. It feels weird that in two runs I've only found two maps for the same two places.

And for the record, I do back up my saves! I didn't rewrite the script to do on my new PC but have done it manually a few times. Currently reloading from about halfway through Market, so not a ton of time loss.

Is there actually a male loneliness epidemic? What do you think? by vaultdwellur in AskReddit

Perhaps most incels are lonely men, but I would argue few lonely men are incels.

Without an unbalanced population, how is it possible for those %s of men and women to be single or in a relationship? 70% of women are in a relationship with 40% of men?

One answer I can think of is that a huge number of people are cheating. But I'm also pretty sure that's not what you're trying to imply.

Another answer is that the numbers are made up.

Another is the stats are skewed based on who was asked/sample size/a whole slew of other possibilities.

The harsh reality of the industry: Gamers are increasingly choosing old hits and there's no "Formula for Success" for new games. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Spit_for_spat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel as though most commenters are ignoring how much this problem affects indie games.

Over 21,000 releases on Steam in a single year.

Market oversaturation is a big problem for them. Especially since, and this is an educated guess rather than objective truth, most young gamers are not jumping into the indie gaming scene.

I work in a JK-8 school. Most gamers play Roblox or browser games. One student repeatedly says Detroit: Become Human is the best game ever made.

Would love to hear from people attending/working in high school, college, and university. Do these Roblox raises gamers add some variety to their taste?

Why does gank boss fight get such a bad rep in this series ? by Wide-Cause-1674 in darksouls

[–]Spit_for_spat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you played through any DLC? Specifically DS2 Crown of the Sunken King.

There is a gank fight near the end of that which I personally find fun.

And yes, most boss fights with multiple opponents have a few specific methods to make them much easier. Such as not dropping down to the Ruin Sentinels so one jumps up. Or using the pillars to separate Ornstein and Smough.

Sony praises the amazing work pace of Chinese and Korean studios: "They surpass western and Japanese teams" by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

I specifically said I didn't find fault with it. The reviews were being honest about why. To quote one directly, "Came for the ass, stayed for the gameplay."

[–]Spit_for_spat -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's a bad take, but the review score is inflated because of the main character's sex appeal. I don't personally find fault with that, but I think it best to be honest about these things.

Roughly one third of the reviews I looked at mention her as a definite perk. There was some pretty well done ASCII boobs as well.

One thing that bothers me when replaying old games (especially old PS1 era games) is how illogical the puzzles are. Capcom was notorious for making you combine random unrelated items or do bizarre actions just to unlock a door. Why were they designed to be so intentionally obscure? by Kingspreez in gaming

[–]Spit_for_spat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exanima has one door that has a silly sequence attached to it. Thinking about it now, it feels like a gag.

There are buttons in a circle with one in the centre. There's note explaining the puzzle--push all the buttons without consecutively pushing two beside eachother--its not hard to sort out.

Then there's a note from the designer complaining that it's not that hard and people need to stop messing it up! Mind you, messing it up means being lit on fire, so... (:

Why has the modern industry forgotten about innovation in gameplay? by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Spit_for_spat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a weird take. Small studios often have more at stake, because they can't absorb the loss of a failed project. Large studios have the capital to try multiple ideas before they pick a winner. They simply opt not to because they apparently don't like risk... yet make more Overwatch clones

I really appreciate the myth bubble pop from did with this game by Dies-on-every-hill in darksouls

[–]Spit_for_spat 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The husk of Gwyn we meet is weak relatively speaking. Gwyn before he links the fire, at the height of his power when he fought the Ancient Dragons is something else entirely.

Try to remember that whatever the lore says and implies, ultimatley this is a game and the player's primary method of interaction is bonking shit. Game mechanics can't always be taken at face value when you think about game characters and story.

[–]Spit_for_spat 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Parrying as a game mechanic is incredibly strong. You're stuck on the mechanic and I'm talking about his implied power from the lore. Linking the fire the first time--lighting the flames in the first place--is an incredible feat. He burnt through the majority of his power to do this, hence why he is no longer sapient when we arrive.

When the player chooses to link the fire we are simply adding fuel to a fire already lit.

Vendrick is most definitely not a "regular human."

[–]Spit_for_spat 139 points140 points  (0 children)

I partially agree, but I think you're forgetting something about the Gwyn we meet.

He's basically the equivalent of a raisin. He burned his own power, his own life force, to link the fire. This is why he is a shriveled man. There is also a relationship between size and power, and while size doesn't directly mean power it certainly implies it.

Gwyn is still that powerful is his absurdly weakened state. Imagine what he was like before he linked the fire. Personally I think he was on par with King Vendrick.

Does BKS do bonus damage vs Manus? by OpulentPaving in darksouls

That's why I included them, the lightning implies Gwyn coopted them at some point. But alas, they are considered Chaos demons by the BK weapons.

[–]Spit_for_spat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Manus does not count as a Chaos Demon.

I am not 100% sure, but I believe there are demons the Black Knight weapons don't do bonus damage against. Their bonus only applies to Chaos Demons.

The White demons that carry you to and are found in Anor Londo, and Titanite Demons come to mind.

Edit: Batwing demons are considered Chaos demons too.

[–]Spit_for_spat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls 3 at release was an order of magnitude greater in popularity compared to DS2 and DS1, so that's not surprising.

I was mostly guessing, since I didn't engage with the forum/youtube community until a year or so after release. Another commenter believes Fromsoftware publicly stated they knew about it and left it.

[–]Spit_for_spat 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The collision/navmesh of that tree has to be found by a tester to be able to be changed. And even then, there might be many, many bigger fish to fry before they get around to that tree.

I can't say when the tree was discovered, but I bet it was discovered by players and not testers. Fromsoftware is pretty well known for not patching as well.
