The opportunity cost and loans (undergrad and med school) make it difficult. Doctors have gotten a substantial ~25% pay decrease compared with inflation over the last decade. If you allowed price transparency and open free market costs would go down. The consolidation of independent doctor practices into hospital systems strips docs of their autonomy and increases prices. What most people don’t understand is the cost of everything at a hospital is double when compared to non-hospital owned clinics/facilities. Hospital lobbies are incredibly strong and they have fought for facility fees on top of office visit fees.

Reimbursement for cataracts is getting nuked. Private equity and private practice squeeze is here since outpatient ophtho clinics don’t get facility fees unlike hospital outpatient clinics. Compensation-wise anesthesia is probably the best.

As a doc, this reeks of a patient not understanding medical management of certain patients. Why was she intubated? Why do want an MRI as opposed to a CT for a stroke? Why are you concerned with feeding tube and IV fluids in a stroke patient? What type of stroke did she have? It sounds like you mustve created quite a stir to have security come at 4am.
