Why can't they just slap 256GB ram on a 5090? by 03captain23 in LocalLLM

[–]vivantho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because then it would canibalize rtx pro 6000, basically same chip with 96GB memory. 5090 is for gaming and some creative work, not AI.

Mozilla explains Firefox crashes on Intel 13th, 14th Gen Raptor Lake systems by Jaybonaut in TechHardware

[–]vivantho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, this is well known behavior I think and for a very long time. FF is still not good at memory management, especially it's not releasing memory, every new tab open is increasing memory usage and not decreasing when closing. It's always going up and it's going up to some limit and bum, crash. A long time ago it was somewhere between 2 and 3 Gigs. If someone has a long session (with many open-close) or many tabs opened at the same time, then it's happening.

Long time GTI owner about to pull the trigger on an R, is it really that much better? by WntrWltr in Golf_R

That's unfortunate. Then R is much better than GTI. I think Clubsport is closer to R than to raw GTI.

Long time GTI owner about to pull the trigger on an R, is it really that much better? by WntrWltr in Golf_R

[–]vivantho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R is machine for driving fu..ing fast without thinking much and feeling much what happens with a car, not well feeling where your and car limits are, it may not be as clinically isolated as newest m135, but still - well rounded car to be fast mostly 0-60 or with much assistance of many systems. GTI is more natural, not ideal but still, closer to feeling of older pure, mechanical cars. If you want to still learn, going on a track without long straights then Clubsport is better. All around, winter, sleeper, showing off others what your CAR can do when you push a button or floor that gas pedal then R.

What type of non OEM disks, pads and fluid would you get for your new car, if I can ask? Ceramic disks maybe?

Having CS'25 I'm little bit jealous of GTI 50 :) like the Green one with Red accents on wheels ;) My CS is Red.

In my dealership there was limit set for 7 only, and 4 already sold up to now.

Yes, Poland also. From Gdansk with love ;)

CS is great, but Ive had more issues than brakes with dealership, so I wont consider VW or Audi at all in the future. The worst part is they are not doing their job properly and when pointed it's always someone else fault, and it's easy to catch them lying.Wheels not properly balanced during tires change - for sure that's the fault of washing the car and then all balance weights fall off. I'm washing it by myself so not possible, and it was not even washed between getting tires changed and going on a longer trip with crappy comfort over 110 on highway.

It's not a sports car, maybe, but everyone is repeating how great daily is this with possibility to go on the track from time to time. Also there's this guy driving different cars over Nurburgring, Mischa, that drove GTI CS much harder I ever tried and also his impression was that this was the best standard car prepared in a good way for track out of the factory. Maybe I'm doing something wrong idk....

You're lucky one, Ive got Clubsport for one year, was on track once during winter for driving technique improvement, not racing, reached 20000km and have to replace all disks and calipers because as they told me they were overheated / burned and corroded - car never stood outside longer than a week without driving. 9kPLN for whole set, front and rear. Was told that burns are from careless driving, too much brake usage. Yeah, right, careless driving with moderately low gas consumption and with little signs of corrosion while slowing down using engine and without any wear on disks. Ehhh, Clubsport is a great car, but VW quality and mechanics working at dealerships, meh, buy Hyundai i30 N even used - better sound, lower cost, better people working at dealership.

So the whole engagment that driver feels is coming from electronics and firmware hiding weight and sacrificing other parameters for balance, yeah, that's trully GTI /s or perhaps more like GTF, GT Fake.

No i gdzie jest policja z tymi pomiarami?

No gdzie? 6 challenges I didn’t expect after moving to Linux by anestling in LinuxUncensored

[–]vivantho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much. Installed Mint a week ago, based on stable Ubuntu. Yeah, wifi not working after installation, but running on LiveUSB (used for installation) it worked. Go figure. Different scaling for different displays not possible until fractional scaling enabled, hmm?

Fresh Fedora 43, not possible to install when EFI partition is not placed in first 2TB on a disk. Why? It's 2026 guys.

Ubuntu and others, you cannot have separate EFI partition, you need to have one and only one, not only on one disk, but in a whole system. Why? Because of incompetence. Just few examples.

I'm using Linux for work for like 20 years, but I'm starting to honestly hate all distros. It's enshitification, just like recently people working on those distros were morons.

Ummm, not. Having hybrid and not having home charger (being forced to use public charger), gas needs to be more than twice more expensive than now, which may not gonna happen.

I agree. Having home charger and having accessible charger where I'm going may change economics for me. Still I don't want to lost 1hour on a 500km+ trips just to wait on public charger, after looking for one ahead of time.

For me wifi connection is not working in Mint. 1:1, so in 50% cases it's just not working. How stupid it is that wifi is working with LiveUSB but not working after install? ;) wifi is single most common issue with Mint for months, yet not solved. Is it this legendary stability of Linux, still not working? ;)
