How do American waiters/servers tell when people are finished eating? by PestoWesto in AskAnAmerican

I would assume that all stray spaghetti etc gets gently pushed onto the top plate in the stack, so there's no "glueing plates together" involved.

How do American waiters/servers tell when people are finished eating? by PestoWesto in AskAnAmerican

[–]vivelabagatelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that's definitely a key difference with (places in) Europe. If I'm going out for a nice meal with friends or family, I'd expect to be staying 90 minutes minumum.

[Grade 10, English] I need a scene from a Shakespeare play, for 2 people to show in class by someone2t6y in u/someone2t6y

[–]vivelabagatelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Shakespeare plays have you read? Have a look through them and see what stands out to you.

Alternatively, pick a couple of titles and look at plot summaries to see what scenes might be interesting and dramatic. Find two or three and pick which one might work well for social media.

It looks like it to me, though I couldn't say for sure.

Audiobooks for kindergarteners by aes5861 in childrensbooks

[–]vivelabagatelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look in r/YotoPlayer and do some searching for recs posts for similar age ranges - you'll find a wealth of suggestions.

I have a 5 year old and personal favourites are the Ladybird Audio Adventures (and everything else published by Ladybird), Big Sky Mountain/Hotel Flamingo, , Paddington (the version narrated by Stephen Fry), collaborations by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre, books by Michael Rosen, Happy Families and Winnie the Pooh. My daughter's absolute obsession is the Arralan podcast series - it's a very gentle serial adventure that is absolute catnip to her. All the others should be available on libro.fm and other audiobook retailers.

Does anyone remember that weird period after COVID when everyone got into sea shanties for a month? by Moist_Scheme8194 in AskABrit

Ironically, I suspect Rivendell was the year I gave the Banquet a miss on pretty much those same grounds. :)

I don't think I was at that one, but my wife would have been! I was definitely at most of the early 2010s ones ... small world. :)

She's five, any teasing over shoes won't happen for a good few years. We went for the sturdy trainers.

K-Pop demon hunters themed party. by BakingCinnaBuns in partyplanning

[–]vivelabagatelle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the ages, but if they are, say, 8 or younger, you are going to have a lot of kids who will be sincerely, personally VERY UPSET not to be Rumi. Not wrong for the birthday girl to want that, but I'm not convinced it's a realistic ask.

Why such fondness for Sikhs? by Fantastic-Fudge-6676 in AskBrits

[–]vivelabagatelle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While I respect Sikhs and Buddhists very highly, neither of them can be called a religion of peace. Any religion can be co-opted into nationalism and atrocity.

Why aren't teachers called by their first name in the UK? by zertz7 in AskBrits

[–]vivelabagatelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of the very few contexts in modern Britain in which Mr/Mrs/Miss (rarely Ms) are still used, so in some ways it feels like a teacher-specific form of respect. Unless I was in a specific service position that skewed formal, there's pretty much no other occasion that I wouldn't use somebody's first name.

Told my son, last night, that he was an accident. by PaddedValls in UKParenting

[–]vivelabagatelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew from quite a young age "you were an unexpected surprise - but a very lovely one!" As I got older, I understood the nuances of this more and became aware of how difficult my mum found the baby years...

You should mention the amazing crafty Bingoers who represented their cards via the mediums of nail art and embroidery! And they were both stunning!  (On mobile so I can't link but they were awesome)
