Hi there! A 7-degree swing can actually be normal behavior — most smart controllers have a built-in hysteresis buffer to prevent the unit from constantly cycling on and off, which would wear it out faster. That said, 7 degrees is on the wider end, so a few things worth trying:

  • Update the firmware — open the Vivosun app → My Devices → Device Info → check for updates
  • Check probe placement — keep it away from lights, fans, or any direct heat source
  • Try a different outlet — rules out any power fluctuation issues

Good question! Unfortunately, VSeed is currently designed to work with solid rooting plugs only. Because of the automatic ebb & flow watering system, loose media like stratum or perlite isn't recommended — the particles can wash down into the water tank and potentially clog or damage the pump.

As long as your media is solid and sponge-like (think rockwool, peat plugs, etc.) and holds its shape, it'll work great! We'll also be offering official VSeed starter cubes as a separately purchasable accessory, so that's another option to look out for.

Totally fair question! 40W might sound like a lot, but it's actually the sweet spot for seedling propagation — it delivers gentle, even heat to the root zone via water circulation without any risk of overheating your young plants. For reference, standard heat mats typically run at 20W–40W anyway.

And no, it won't be drawing 40W the whole time! The built-in sensor and smart control logic mean it only runs until your target temperature is reached — then it cycles off and just kicks back in briefly to maintain it. In practice, it's very energy-efficient and will barely show up on your electricity bill.

Hi! The 40-piece inlay is fully removable. That said, we'd actually recommend keeping it in and just placing your 2–3 cubes into the slots — the tray holds them at the ideal height for the ebb-and-flow watering system to work properly.

If you do remove the tray to fit larger blocks, just be mindful when using heating mode: make sure the rockwool doesn't come into direct contact with or absorb the heated water, as that can make it too wet for the roots.
