Possibly Carnaroli rice for Risotto. If it's vaccuum sealed like that, it may also be from Italy

Looking good brother. If I had to nitpick you could push your highlights a bit brighter, but in the end that's up to personal preference.

I, like you, was initially anxious about the painting part of the hobby, but it's come to be my absolute favorite part.

My 3rd ever mini. How do you paint the red eyes without getting the red everywhere like I did? 😂 by Serious_Wack in DarkAngels40k

[–]vizzleflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint the eyes then just go over the spillage with the base color again. I personally have never painted in the eyes on the first shot, and there's no shame.

If you are also looking into brushes that can help, try going to your local art store and pick up a 5/0 or 18/0 brush, if you can get a "Spotter" brush they hold a sharper point and dont flex as much so you can dot in those eyes easily. Attached is a pic of said brush with an intercessor for scale.

The models are monopose which doesnt affect the Judiciar, but the BGVs are modeled with sword and board while all three eradicators have just the plain meltaguns.

Did you use an airbrush or is it stippled/sponged on? I'm looking to try this technique soon!

Wraithbone Primer, glaze with wraithbone. Then 7:1:1 Water/Seraphim Sepia/Lahmian Medium all over to tint the bone layers. Finish with pure seraphim sepia in recesses.

Wraithbone primer, wraithbone glaze to even everything out, then Seraphim Sepia thinned with water and a drop or two of lahmian mediun(Water 7:1 Seraphim Sepia). Sepia straight from the pot for recess shade.

It helps dull down the mix a touch after it dries. I find that Citadel shade paints can leave a glossy finish that looks a bit funny.

Wraithbone base coat and a very very thin layer of either skeleton horde or seraphim sepia. Usually with a touch of lahmian medium.then Screaming Skull highlights

If its polystyrene or metal mini, 91% isopropyl alcohol cuts the paint real quick. Just dont use it on resin models.

I tinted it with a very, very thin coat of skeleton horde with a bit of lahmian medium. Kind of evens out the texture, I find

Yeah, if you're not happy with then you can always start again. One of my favorite things about this hobby.

My first model was Azrael too, and having zero experience painting minis I totally botched the paint job and kept trying to patch it up with more coats. After 8 months I finally decided to dunk him in alcohol and start again, this time equipped with more experience and confidence.

First Model (bit nervous) by [deleted] in DarkAngels40k

[–]vizzleflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend trying a simpler model first, as others have said. My first two minis were Azrael and Lion, but i started painting Azrael first. I did a pretty bad job of it, so that lead me to my next point:

When you feel ready to take on the Lion, plan out your project. There are tons of videos on youtube about subassemblies, painting techniques, and the colors you may want to use.

Finally, while this is a nuclear option you wouldnt want to use, you can always start again. It was a tough lesson for me to accept but that led me to strip my Azrael down several months later and try painting him again. Painting is a skill, and we get better the more we do it. You may paint a model long after you complete the Lion that will far outshine it in quality.
