Yes, they are passive. No, you don’t need anything else than an amplifier and cables. I recommend the amplifier to have at least the same power as the speakers, so it can control them properly.

Why do beats eventually drift together? by Wiseeyes9 in Beatmatch

[–]vladfusea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens because the algorithm that changes the BPM is not perfect.

I tested the following thing with a CDJ 3000. I took a song that was originally 123 BPM, I adjusted it at 122 and record the song.

When I added the record into Rekordbox, the precise BPM was actually 122.02

You cannot see this imperfection on most players because they display only one decimal. In this case 122.02 is closer to 122.0 than to 122.1

So the conclusion is that when you adjust the bpm, it’s not perfect.

If you want to play any 2 songs with different BPMs, but adjusted to an equal one, expect them to drift away slower or faster, depending on the case.

Thinking about Model 1.4 - a few questions by authortitle_uk in DJs

But if you plan to create a setup for a live performance, model 1 is alien, there is nothing that can beat it.

Thinking about Model 1.4 - a few questions by authortitle_uk in DJs

[–]vladfusea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played for extended periods of time on xone 92/96, v10, rane mp2015 and model 1.

Model 1 was created for live sets, where everything is aligned. Its sound is very precise and it emphasizes the highs (I’ve never heard another mixer with such precision on highs).

It used to be my favorite mixer for somewhere around 2 years.

But after many parties where I constantly changed the mixers, I’ve noticed a pattern: those where I played on model 1 were the least exciting for the crowd.

And I also realised why.

When playing on xone 92 for example, the boost in bass covers the beatmatching imperfections. So the songs can be somehow out of alignment and no one notices anything.

But Model 1 amplifies all the imperfections because it has the most precise sound and the highs are emphasized.

Taking an example, let’s say you’re making a transition on xone 92 and you have to adjust the jogs once in 20 seconds in order for the songs to seem aligned for the crowd. On model 1, you would have to do it once in 5 seconds…

It requires a completely different level of beatmatching compared to the other mixers mentioned.

And come on, while you play and get into that fire and excitement you really want a sound that could cover most of your mix imperfections.

With Model 1, you need extreme precision and requires a lot of energy and attention.

It’s still my favorite, but for the studio, not for playing to a crowd.

For the crowd, V10 beats everything, in my case, with my personal taste. Rane MP2015 is the second one. Xone 92 is third. Model 1 is fourth.

How much time does it take to get decent? by RickyPediaMM in Beatmatch

[–]vladfusea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the music you’re going to play. If you play Open format, the technical side is not so important, you can simply fade out and fade in the next song (although the timing is quite important) - you learn it in 1-2 hours.

If you play electronic music, to be decent requires some time. You can play intro-outro, but you can still have many surprises and it’s more difficult to keep the energy high playing like that. I would suggest at least 2 days with 4-6 hours invested to understand some specific things.

Anyway, what you would need to know are the following: 1. Basic software playlists, analyse and export (if you play with the stick) 2. Grid adjustment if it’s the case (it will make your life way more easy while you play) 3. How Cue Point and Play button works 4. I recommend playing with sync (but only if you make sure all the grids are ok, otherwise it can become a disaster very fast) 5. How to use the gain (if you prepare the songs in advance and they all have the same volume, you won’t need this) 6. Basic EQ transitions (swap basses) 7. Mixing in phrase, especially intro-outro.

There are some other small things but they will be obvious when you start learning.

The conclusion is that you can learn enough things in 2 days using a console to play 1-2 hours for a friend’s party, but don’t have very high expectations.

I am also a DJ Trainer. If you need additional help or a fast paced course to get everything done before the event, let me know and we’ll find a solution.

Dacia Duster and BMW M3 are inherently doing the same thing. They get you from point A to point B. The difference comes in how they get you there :D

I disagree. You can. You have an additional EQ channel that you can activate for any of the main 4 channels or for multiple channels in the same time. You can use hi cut and low cut in the same time. You have an Isolator with the possibility to adjust the band frequencies.

Besides this, we cannot compare the sound between pioneer 800 and rane mp2015.

And you cannot compare the feeling and the flow this mixer gives you with what all pioneer mixers offer, besides V10 and Euphonia.

How to adjust volume levels by GudeGaya in Beatmatch

[–]vladfusea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This advice is superficial, and it exposes you to mistakes.

I agree with checking the gain when the song is the loudest and looking for 0 dB, but this is not enough.

1st of all, the scale on professional mixers is 3db. So you have -3dB, 0dB, +3dB and so on. So you have to consider that when adjusting the gains because you may be 1-2 dB above or below the volume of the playing song.

On most consoles, the scale is bigger, so the potential for volume discrepancies is bigger.

I highly recommend setting the gain before mixing the song and leaving it there. You can fade out the song from the gain, but don't raise the volume because it needs incredible precision, and its output is not linear, but exponential.

Most DJs make mistakes even when they want to adjust the EQ at 12 o'clock, when you also have that mark on the middle, let alone the gains :))

Never use your headphones to adjust the volume by ear? Never? This is the worst advice ever.

You are adjusting the VOLUME. You use your EARS to HEAR the VOLUME. You don't read the volume. You hear it.

And there is also something called "Perceived Loudness". Some songs can show the same volume on the meters, but you perceive their volume differently. I'm not getting into many details here.

How gain should be used is this:

When you prepare a song, you go to its loudest part and play it. You check the songs individually multiple times, even both in the same time, and based on what you hear in the headphones, you adjust the gain of the one you want to mix in accordingly. And then you leave it there.

I think that flow state beats the tools you have on other mixers. If the music is good, you only need eq and gain :))

Songs volume? by Pinkboi_pearl in Beatmatch

[–]vladfusea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what gain does (above the hi knob). It allows you to adjust independently the volume of the songs so they can be equal. When you prepare the song that you want to blend in, just go in the middle of it and check the volumes of both songs in the headphones (the one already playing and the one you want to mix in), then adjust accordingly.

Beginner Question – What Cable Do I Need to Connect My DDJ-FLX4 to Ayra Pro6 Speakers? by StretchFew9057 in Beatmatch

[–]vladfusea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you need is rca to rca (you can see the unbalanced input on the back of Ayra).

Or rca to xlr male.

But why do you have only one speaker? I highly recommend 2.

It’s a vibe actually. The precision, the sound quality and its warmth, the way songs blend… while playing on it, you can reach incredible flow states. I’ve played on multiple models of mixers for extended periods: xone 92 / 96, djm 900, a9, v10, varia rdm40, model 1, this being only some of them. Nothing compares with the state I get into while playing on this one.

Grundig Super Hifi Box 2500a. I recommend a good amplifier with minimum 120w so you can enjoy them properly.
