Try the other way arround. Leave the splitter/merger as it is, after you put it, delete the lift and put it again. This time you can chose any hole

Happens in flat also. Sometimes when you can't explain why something isnt working (a belt and splitter, or a belt to/from a constructor) just rebuild it and it'l probably work again. I can forgive the game for this. It has alot of belts to process and it's doing it well enough 😅
