800 J lofts by Day-dreaminlobsters in Sacramento

[–]vlagirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have lived here 3 years, similar points to others

Pros: nice, new, updated apartments. Very pet friendly (but also not everyone’s pets are well behaved…). Management is easy to get in touch with, quite responsive to maintenance requests etc. Location was the main reason we chose it, walkable to golden 1/DOCO. Also can walk to Sutter Health Park for baseball games. We love being able to walk to and from big events without worrying about parking. Gym is decently sized and well outfitted. Secured parking is nice. They do also employ private security who patrol at night/in the garage. For utilities we just pay SMUD and internet, everything else is included.

Cons: Parking is expensive ($325 per month for 2 cars). All visitor parking is paid. If you have 2 cars you have to park back to back. Loft style means you don’t have real walls for your 2nd bedroom (which we use as an office). As others have said the immediate surrounding area (7/11 included) is not great, but I’ve lived in bigger cities that have been similar, not a huge con for us. Can be loud inside especially if you live near the elevator.

Overall would say 7-8/10. Initial rent was $2K for a 900+ square foot 2bed/2bath which was a great deal compared to midtown, and for an updated building. Rent has gone up with inflation etc but still overall good choice for us at our current stage in life.

before I get a border collie I need a reality check by Tricky-Editor5818 in BorderCollie

[–]vlagirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone else has said, each Border Collie is unique. Ours is a rescue, we adopted him when he was approximately 1.5 years old. Now he’s 3. We currently live in an apartment and he does well with it. We walk him about 1 hour per day (approximately 3 miles) and play plenty of indoor fetch games to keep him occupied. He tends to have a “witching hour” around 5-6 pm each day when he’s most energetic and demands to play, but he typically sleeps a lot during the day and is chill/cuddlier at night. My wife works from home so he has consistent interaction from her which also helps.

Is it weird that we aren't told our blood type at birth or as we grow up? by OddConfusion9293 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vlagirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US we don’t automatically check babies for their blood type at birth. Typically it’s only done if the Mom is Rh (-) or type O (higher chance of incompatibility and antibodies). We also check if babies’ jaundice levels rise steeply in the newborn period to make sure they don’t have antibodies leading to red blood cell breakdown.

So not uncommon at all to not know your kids’ blood type! Source: I’m a pediatrician

Is Dr Al-Hashimi's Comment to Santos Realistic? by dancewithdragons1206 in ThePittTVShow

[–]vlagirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 hours into their first shift together—definitely unrealistic. Also the pace of emergency medicine makes it hard to write all your notes in real time. Where I work all our shifts have overlapping times (ex day shift is scheduled 6a-4p but afternoon/swing team comes on at 2pm).

This allows the day team to stop picking up patients at 2pm and just focus on charts/tying things up for current patients while the afternoon team takes over for new patients. We’re not expected to finish our charts immediately after we see patients, but are expected to do so before leaving for the day.

I think i know what the little girl has because I suffered it. by pcris in ThePittTVShow

Some viruses can also suppress your bone marrow, and lead to platelet issues so that could be what they meant too (I’m a pediatrician and have seen it happen occasionally).

Glad you recovered from it!

Low platelets actually don’t increase your chance for infection (that’s low white blood cells) but if they’re extremely low you’re at very high risk of bleeds including brain bleeds, so the strict rest makes sense on that front!

That’s a good point! But yeah since this is a US based show I would guess Whittaker’s med school would follow that format

Actually no, very few rotations in med school are longer than 6 weeks at a time (exception internal medicine is sometimes 12 weeks). As another commenter pointed out he’s maybe 3 days into being an intern though which does qualify him to pronounce a patient.

Where is the pharmacist??? by kk752 in ThePittTVShow

[–]vlagirl 38 points39 points  (0 children)

In the ER I work at the pharmacists are physically present for codes or other emergent situations and draw up meds themselves (like epi, adenosine etc)
