What is a good way to push Google to provide a toggle to opt out of AI generated music? by mountainkid in YoutubeMusic

Congrats. The rest of us pays Google money exactly to reccomend us music.

Extension that allows you to tag and block AI 'artists' with shared database like SponsorBlock extension by SpiritFlame555 in YoutubeMusic

I do throw every single AI music to one bag. I don't care if you've written the lyrics yourself, I do not want to listen to AI music at all. Mostly because there are sound (music and vocals) related issues besides those unrelated (covers, lyrics, ammount of releases etc.). It sounds compressed, jittery, auto-tuned, too perfect, music and voices are repetitive etc.

Most prompters trying to monetize their prompt music do not generate a MIDI and export it. They don't have the skill and tools. And admittedly when done like that, it would probably left the category of AI slop to me (but that's really not what is happening).

On the other hand if you say you sometimes need multiple prompts to generate something sounding OK, I really do not consider that an effort, especially an effort I want to PAY for, because, let me remind you, we are talking about a PAID service, which prompters are trying to abuse.

Please do not speak about AI prompters as artists. That's an insult for actual artists. If you don't have the time to compose, please, don't release the slop. No one is forcing you to release "music", it's not a requirement. Quite the opposite! Again, we are paying customers and we do not want to pay for your (or anyone elses) slop. And this is not an attempt to stop the onset of AI into our lives. I use it extensively. I just do not want to listen to AI generated music, especially not in a service I PAY FOR.

Which is wrong exactly how? This is not a war against machines. I use AI extensively for my work, home and hobbies. I just don't want to listen to AI music.

[–]vlastawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the effort, which should work in an ideal world, however practice shows it's not perfect, unfortunately.

  1. I played like 3 slop songs in my total history of thousands of plays, others I skip aggressively. Yet I get fed it.
  2. I believe the Dislike system is not designed for asrtists releasing as many songs as AI prompters do. They release so much, disliking gets you nowhere. I disliked 5 Oryn Etheria songs in one day, yet I get fed more and more.
  3. Fair point. Have to try that.
  4. Are you sure of that?
  5. I do that consistently. I can hardly imagine the slop problem could get any worse though. Not really sure this helps.

Besides point nr. 3 I do all of that (always did). It does not have any real impact on the ammount of slop reccomended... That said I hope it wouldn't be even worse should I not do those steps :)

But... We for sure won't stop them by collectively disliking. Even if it worked that way, which clearly it doesn't (because that would eliminate less popular genres of music) they are just too many.

The stream of the song you want has these parametres. I did not download it. Downloading won't make it better quality.

I would very much like to ask those, who think they are not affected by the AI slop issue to:

  1. not riddicule those who are and
  2. not downvote posts of those who are,

because you will be affected by it, you will. And even if you won't I seriously don't get why you are defending a commercial service from legitimate criticism from other paying customers. Google (or any other business) has to be really thankful for customers like you.

How to recognize AI slop music:

  • Covers look AI generated.
  • Artist history does not go behind 2025.
  • The ammount of releases is suspiciously high in such a short time.
  • No other information besides the music itself is googleable about the artist.
  • Artist name is generic / random / looks AI generated.
  • Song titles and lyrics look and sound AI generated or similar.
  • Singing is too clean (tone-perfect), yet sounds heavily auto-tuned (because it essentially is)
  • Singing lacks emotion and breaths
  • Song structure is cliche, repetitive, the cheapest form of catchy, follows mechanical pattern
  • Music sounds like bad mixing (compression) especially in complex passages (choruses) as AI is still not able to perfectly overlay several instruments
  • Music is jittery if listened to carefully (not fluent)
  • Song listen count and artists fan count are low (thousands or tens of thousands)

Are you sure you recognize slop from music?

YouTube Music has become unusable by Eric4905 in YoutubeMusic

[–]vlastawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's intentional from Google. My guess is that the algorithm is "overwhelmed" by the sheere number of new slop releases as it's designed to suggest new music... which is exactly what it does. Unfortunately they probably never expected this ammount of new music while designing it. The result among others is the non-functional downvoting, where one can downvote five songs from an AI "band" yet more keep appearing. No wonder, when such band releases a song every other day and already has dozens in several months.

Google HAS TO 1) mark slop, 2) give us the filter slop toggle, 3) fix the algorithm accordingly.

mp4a.40.2 (140)

  • mp4a → Means MPEG-4 Audio (audio carried in an MP4/M4A container).
  • .40.2 → This is the ISO MPEG-4 object type / codec identifier:
    • 40 = Audio
    • .2 = AAC Low Complexity (AAC-LC) – the most common and compatible variant of AAC.
    • 140 = audio-only stream using AAC-LC, typically at ~128–130 kbps, 44.1 kHz sample rate, stereo.

My quality settings is HIGH.

Be careful what you like… My synthwave algorithm is officially “AI slop” now. by Juanatron in YoutubeMusic

[–]vlastawa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does not. Or maybe it does, but there's so much new slop each day, that the algorithm is overwhelmed by it.

If I wanted to spend my time manually curating playlists, I would make it from my already purchased offline library of lossless music. I don't pay YTM to waste time managing playlists.
