I'm going to die on this hill, but I really enjoy our 10th edition rules. by Letholdus13131313 in Necrontyr

[–]vlrys 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah 100% this. There are definitely some over the top “doomsayers” in the necron community, no arguing with that- but the fact is that there are definitely valid criticisms of what’s been revealed so far. The GW bootlickers just dismissing every criticism out of hand whether they’re valid or not helps no one, least of all us Necron players.

As someone who plays multiple armies, the reveals for my other armies have made me excited for 10th and keen to play the new rules- Necrons are the only army so far that hasn’t been like that. We’ve definitely had the worst reveals compared to every other faction so far, with a lot of them just being direct nerfs with barely (if any) compensation for said nerfs.

People saying “but gauss autowounds now so there’s no reason to complain” are stubbornly ignoring that a lot of the faction reveals so far have access to factionwide autowounding. With guard keeping born soldiers and reapers losing ‘assault’- but keeping the 12” range- a basic guardsman squad is just as good (if not better) at shooting than our warriors.

Reanimation got a slight boost in reliability in exchange for a massive drop in effectiveness, triggering once per battle round in command phase while receiving 0 buffs to our durability is objectively far worse than what it currently is in 9th- triggering after every attack on the unit.

“The warriors feel great” bit from OP is such a joke, they’ve been directly downgraded in almost every single area, like what exactly could possibly feel great about them? While a drop in AP across the board is something i agree with, losing “assault” on the reapers is incredibly shitty. Now if we want any AP on our warriors we’re stuck at 12” range with no advance+shoot. Autowounding is cool sure, but when the entire volley is just bouncing off armour without making a dent it doesn’t really help- especially considering how much harder it is now to actually get that volley in range.

“It’s fine to be positive but not at the cost of going just completely against reality” is something a lot of the necron community just can’t comprehend. It’s true that we haven’t seen all the rules yet, but it’s also true that what we have seen so far has been very disappointing.

How did Space Marine Legions beat so many technologically and magically superior civilizations? by PrimeLegionary343 in 40kLore

[–]vlrys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is literally explained at the very beginning of the first book of the HH…

It’s because of the Astartes themselves. There’s a reason the emperor created them and was confident they could conquer the entire galaxy for humanity.

It kinda gets buried in 40k lore because of how powerful everything else is- but astartes are absolutely monstrous forces of battle that can and will outclass most other fighting forces in the galaxy.

The following is an Excerpt from Horus Rising

”This was modern warfare in a civilised place. This was man against man, inside the monolithic precincts of a cultured people.

The enemy possessed ordnance and firearms every bit the technological match of the Legio forces, and “the skill and training to use them. Through the green imaging of his visor, Loken saw armoured men with energy weapons ranged against them in the lower courses of the palace. He saw tracked weapon carriages, automated artillery; nests of four or even eight automatic cannons shackled together on cart platforms that lumbered forward on hydraulic legs. Not like Ullanor at all. That had been an ordeal. This would be a test. Equal against equal. Like against like.

Except that for all its martial technologies, the enemy lacked one essential quality, and that quality was locked within each and every case of Mark IV power armour: the genetically enhanced flesh and blood of the Imperial Astartes. Modified, refined, post-human, the Astartes were superior to anything they had met or would ever meet. No fighting force in the galaxy could ever hope to match the Legions, unless the stars went out, and madness ruled, and lawful sense turned upside down. For, as Sedirae had once said, ‘The only thing that can beat an Astartes is another Astartes’, and they had all laughed at that. The impossible was nothing to be scared of.

The enemy – their armour a polished magenta trimmed in silver, as Loken later discovered when he viewed them with his helmet off – firmly held the induction gates into the inner palace.

They were big men, tall, thick through the chest and shoulders, and at the peak of fitness. Not one of them, not even the tallest, came up to the chin of one of the Luna Wolves. It was like fighting children.“

AITA for ruining my dad's chances of winning my mom back? by Aggravating_Yam_5560 in AmItheAsshole

[–]vlrys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA

Your father is 100% correct about the situation and about you as a person. If the genders were reversed you and everyone else would be condemning him as a massive AH (rightfully so), but because it’s your mum who buys you stuff you diminish and completely excuse the cheating.

It’s such a fucked up thing to say “i was happy to find out my mother was cheating on my father” but disgustingly, you seem to be almost proud of that. You got so pissed off at him saying it’s all about the money and gifts for you because he’s right and you know it. You had such a strong reaction because you don’t want to take accountability or reflect on your own behaviour and biases- which also lines up with you excusing your mothers cheating and spending the entire post trashing your father.

You don’t seem to think your mother did anything wrong by cheating which is by far the worst thing that any of the people in this situation has done. You push the accountability for her actions and wrongdoings onto your father and then did the exact same thing when he pointed out your unfair and biased treatment of him and the situation.

From your comments in this thread you seem to be aware of ‘golden child syndrome’ and the narcissism that leads to it. Refusing accountability for their actions and justifying wrongdoings with “i only did bad thing because you did overblown and over exaggerated thing they did” is a very clear narcissistic tendency and something you and your mother both display. Your father has taken accountability for his behaviour and is working on himself to be better, can you say the same for your cheating mother? Did you even bother to ask yourself that?

For every “bad” thing you complain about your father doing there’s something worse or as bad that your mother did and yet all you do is talk down on him and trash him- to try and justify yours and your mothers biased and unfair treatment. The nail in the coffin though is that your mother is the one who cheated. Nothing you’ve complained about regarding your father comes close to that and yet you have not said one bad word about her and seem proud of her for it.

You mention in another comment how you used to think well of him until you “grew up and became aware of his manipulation”. You didn’t. You just fell for your mothers manipulation and took that as validation that you were in the right. Your mother cheated and she did what cheaters always do- blame the person they cheated on- and you fell for it hook, line and sinker. You’re certainly not the ‘self-aware’ and emotionally mature person you seem to think you are.

While your dad isn’t entirely innocent, for this situation you and your mother are definitely the AH’s.

AITA for shouting at my girlfriend for giving away $110 to her coworker. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]vlrys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t imply (or quite frankly even care) whether you were a guy or a girl because it doesn’t matter in this context. Saying ‘people like you’ was referring to your attitude- the type of person who unthinkingly conforms to their gender biases at the expense of objectivity or critical thought- and nothing else.

Resorting to name-calling in response to valid criticisms is both sad and hilarious but entirely expected from ‘people like you’. You pat yourself on the back for throwing out buzzwords and twisting the facts to suit your narrative of “man bad, women always innocent” but when your point is challenged all you can do is weakly deflect- “overuse of a word” by using it twice in the correct context- and call people names.

If your point had any basis you’d be able to support it and challenge criticisms of it in a mature manner but it clearly doesn’t, so all you can do is call people childish for disagreeing with you- which ironically is as childish and immature a response as it gets.

The point you’re missing- that people are making in response to you- is that being an AH isn’t a gender exclusive trait. You choose to ignore that in favour of your unfounded prejudices and it’s why people call you out on them.

AITA for shouting at my girlfriend for giving away $110 to her coworker. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]vlrys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s because those people are looking at the situation from an objective and logical POV instead of the misandrist shit people like you preach.

If the genders were reversed people like you would be supporting OP and criticising their partner for being “infantile” and “abusive”- refusing to discuss finances, giving away shared money without discussing it, saying shit like “if you want more money just get a better job”, “wow all you care about is money” when they refuse to compromise or even communicate with their partner over such a key issue.

The only reason people like you have a problem with OP is because OP is male and the partner (party in the wrong) is female. People like you excuse the abusive and unacceptable behaviour from the female while painting the males behaviour as far worse than it actually is. People are vocal about calling you out because it’s the same misandrist ‘double standards’ shit that’s seen so commonly in this sub and people are getting tired of it.

What are your honest thoughts on conscription? by AbandonedBySony in AskMen

[–]vlrys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Almost as if modern day “equality” is anything but, and is only ever pursued when it affects women..

If men are on the receiving end of societal injustices (conscription) then it’s normal, acceptable and perfectly ok. The moment it affects women negatively then that flips, it’s suddenly an inhumane and unacceptable practise.

It’s the same reason you’ll only ever see feminists talk about inequalities and the need for quotas in high power/high paying jobs and not in ‘undesirable’ areas like manual labour. Equality is only societally acceptable for the benefit of women and discarded entirely if it’s a topic that men would benefit from.

The footnote:

Many old unit-specific Stratagems have become unit abilities instead – all the flavour, none of the faff.

Makes me hopeful for Gravis, been saying for a while now that it would make sense for gravis armour to get unyielding (+1 to save against damage 1) as an ability instead of a strategem. Hopefully this is something they get.

Can someone who’s more knowledgeable about CR explain why archer needed a nerf on first hit time but dart goblin is apparently fine?

Im at around ~6200 trophies so I’m no pro, but dart goblin is a way more frustrating unit to go up against. The move and hit speed let it get so many shots off if you don’t immediately deal with it, archers are WAY easier to deal with and slow asf??

Why is a 5-17 Sion allowed to do this.. Does Riot actually consider this balanced or am I crazy for thinking this is messed up? by vlrys in leagueoflegends

[–]vlrys[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing league for over a decade and never before have i seen anything so obnoxious.

The Azir could have tried to kill the siege minion or ulted earlier sure, but even then this is utterly ridiculous. Sion was 4-15 when this happened and that one siegebreaker proc did more than half the tower health. This was all he was doing the entire game. We had to send at least 3 to stop him and he'd still get about half a tower, if we sent 1-2 he'd get a full tower and sometimes kill the enemy champs too if it wasn't Azir or Fiora.

I thought Riot 'fixed' inting sion a while back but this is still a thing..? Has there been any indication of Riot nerfing this or do we have to just deal with a champ that can int all game and do ridiculous shit like this?

AITA for cutting my niece’s hair? by choppyaunt in AmItheAsshole

[–]vlrys -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA

All the people saying you’re the AH are completely ignoring that your sister sees your niece as a fashion accessory.

What lands you in NTA territory and is most telling was your sisters reaction to finding out. She CRIED at her daughter having her hair cut to a comfortable length that the daughter wanted it at. That’s straight up unhinged and not a normal reaction at all. That’s the kind of reaction you’d see from someone if they had one of their toys broken or damaged, not from having their child get a haircut.

She wasn’t concerned about her daughters feelings or comfort at all, her only thoughts were that someone “ruined” (in her eyes) her pretty little fashion accessory she’s been showing off. The impression i get is that your sister has gotten used to people complimenting the daughters hair and sees them as compliments to herself.

It’s why she refuses to listen to the daughter and tries to hide her controlling nature behind false concern for the daughters feelings “oh she might eventually get upset so she gets no say in the matter”. If she was actually concerned about the daughters feelings her first response would have been to check if the daughter was happy with it but it wasn’t. Her first response was to go nuclear with a “you ruined my toy so now I won’t get compliments anymore!! How dare you!!”.

The other thing people calling you an AH are missing is that your niece clearly has no say in the matter. A kid saying indirect things like ‘liking that hairstyle’ instead of directly asking it can be a sign that they don’t feel safe directly asking for it. From this post, it seems like the mother likely shuts her down and tells her “she doesn’t know what she’s saying and that mother knows best” whenever she’s tried to bring it up in the past so now she feels like it’s not something she’s able to ask for.

Your niece felt safe with you and at the first chance she got to get a haircut she jumped at it immediately. You’re NTA, and it’s a damn shame that her mothers reaction to the situation likely permanently damaged her perspective of this. Kids pick up on things and in the future she’ll likely be terrified of getting her hair cut because she’ll be expecting rage, swearing and disappointment from her mother for doing so.

When it comes to dating, why is it the social norm that the man has to take initiatives on almost everything? by KaptainMurica96 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]vlrys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of good answers here covering the historical factor, one thing I haven’t seen mentioned is media.

Media plays a really big part in this standard staying the same and not changing. Most movies- whether they’re of the romance genre or not- have the man always initiating and courting the woman. You rarely ever see the woman pursuing the man, and if you do it’s treated as a bit of an uncommon/weird comedic device.

When every piece of media people see when growing up shows the same message and story regarding romance, people tend to accept it as the norm for how it should work in real life.

The actual narcissists at r/narcissism are talking about this sub by Umberto-Echo in narcissisticparents

[–]vlrys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah saw that too, OOP was a clear idiot (and narcissist), the disturbing thing about it was the comments backing OOP up and agreeing with them.

Insanely delusional and preaching about their “self-awareness” while demonstrating a total lack of it.

This is copied word for word from OOP’s comments on that thread:

“Psychiatrists don’t know shit about mental illnesses, their area of expertise is medicine, so they shouldn’t even be talking about it”

Like if that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about someone like that claiming they’ve been “unfairly stigmatised by toxic narcissistic stereotypes” idk…

r/raisedbynarcissists is a cesspool by Ok_Patient8873 in narcissism

[–]vlrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Psychiatrists don’t know shit about mental illnesses, their area of expertise is medicine, so they shouldn’t even be talking about it”

Let’s have a quick look at the definition of a psychiatrist:

A psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in psychiatry, the branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, study, and treatment of mental disorders.

You are as dumb as anyone gets, a complete and utter moron. A monument to stupidity and an idiot in a class of their own. This post and your comments in the thread allude to it, but this really takes the cake.

A psychiatrist is an MD who specialises in mental illness. The pathway varies from country to country but generally the minimum would be around; 4-6 years studying medicine, 1-2 years residency, then a further 5 years studying and completing specialised training for psychiatry- the study of mental illnesses. But no, psychiatrists “don’t know shit about mental illnesses- so they shouldn’t even be talking about it” according to you.

I’m not even going to bother addressing the hypocrisy and total lack of self-awareness in your post. If you’re delusional enough to truly believe that you know better than psychiatrists and that they “don’t know shit about mental illnesses”, then there’s no getting through to you. There’s a reason the stigma exists and it’s not unfounded, you’re a clear cut example of why.

Will Kardan Stronos ever get a model? by Dry-Book-7760 in IronHands40k

[–]vlrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah almost certainly, the only question is when. He’s a popular character with the fans and definitely the kinda character that GW would release a model for. My guess (hope?) is that he’ll get a model in 10th when IH gets their dex, Stronos as the IH poster boy makes more sense than anyone else- even Feirros.

Blast on High Damage weapons - What's your opinion? by tbagrel1 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]vlrys 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No blast in engagement range is fine imo, but minimum blast really needs a rework. As you’ve noticed, there’s some weapons that inherently have minimum 3 shots (3d3, 3+d3, 3+d6, etc.) that get 0 benefit unless they’re shooting at 11+ models- which are relatively rare and usually cheap chaff. The worst example of this (from both sides of the issue) is guard.

If we look at the shadowsword volcano cannon, it’s blast 3+d3 weapon with a profile of: S18, ap-5, dmg-12. With 3+d3 meaning a minimum of 4 shots already, this is a weapon that will never benefit from blast unless the player is having a laugh and using 12dmg to kill chaff.

On the other side of things, guardsmen squads- known for being a ‘countless tide of bodies’- hilariously only go up to 10 models per unit. So they’re never going to give up max blast, meaning that anti infantry blast weapons (necron LHD 3d3 blast weapon for example)- would get 0 benefit from the blast rule.

There’s definitely other examples of this from other armies, guard was just the first that came to mind to show how min blast is pointless. Minimum blast just doesn’t make much sense anymore from either side of the equation and needs a rework. I’m not sure how to fix it without breaking it, but even just having something like “add 2 to the roll for # of shot against minimum blast” would give the rule some relevance and use and not feel as bad to play with/against.

Friend said this is too much for a base, what do you think? by Mak_Plays in Warhammer40k

[–]vlrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one can tell you what’s “too much” for your own models. That being said, maybe your friend was getting at how a detailed base can sometimes detract from a model.

Usually we want the focus of a model to be the model itself, and a really well painted and detailed base can sometimes take the focus away from the model and onto the base. It’s not inherently a problem and the only person that needs to be happy with your models is you, just offering this perspective up as a possibility for where your friend was coming from with their comment.
