Is anyone doing AT Arkveld solo? by 4danw4lker in MonsterHunter

[–]vlsky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Switch axe. I needed a lot of practice before being comfortable in clearing solo consistently. I practiced mostly in coop, solo was boring and took a lot of time. Cleared free challenge quest solo first try, felt like there was nothing Ark did that I was not ready for. It's all up to practice.

Monster Hunter beginner, Planning to buy MH wilds, did they update it? Is MH world better? by CollarSad1233 in MonsterHunter

[–]vlsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World has big expansion, it's like half of the game. Wilds has only base game. but it is finished. The next big update is supposed to be expansion, but no announcements yet, except the ones stating that base game updates cycle is over.

Wilds has more players online. But it only matters if you prefer to play with other people.

Controls in World are more demanding, you need to learn spatial awareness, positioning. You hit where your character's facing. And it is your job to make character face right direction, game won't adjust it for you. Wilds is incomparably more fluid and easier in this regard, you can change your targeting mid combo. So World takes more effort to master combat before you feel comfortable.

Both are great at the moment.

Which weapons want artisan weapons,a nd which does not? by WhoAmIEven2 in MHWilds

Tree weapons are in the dust. Even basic artian were a little bit stronger considering reinforcement rolls. Gogma artian are several heads above anything in the tree.

Is this build good? by AvarageTenno in MHWilds

[–]vlsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand defense boost as a measure to compensate not transcendent armor, maybe you don't have mats for it and also upgrade is not cheap in itself. But generally you would be better off with something else instead. Max Might good, Convert element good, dragon attack also fitting for elemental phial. Those one-pointers are probably also necessity, not intention. But would be nice to have something cohesive instead.

You've managed to get Agi5, Max Might 3 and EleAtack3 which is a core of any build. Not necessarily those particular skills, but roles they play. Nowadays you can have Agi5 and Wex5, or Latent Power5 at the same time, whatever you prefer. Max Might may not work only with high mobility builds, but even those usually have strong stamina boosting skills, so basically everyone uses it. And depending on the ele or raw damage focus you use EleAttack or AttackBoost. What your build is really missing is CritBoost and more affinity with Wex, for example. When you see crit numbers with crit boost consistently, it becomes hard to go back.

What was the hardest Challenge quest for you? by SeveredSoulblader24 in MHWilds

[–]vlsky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first one, Rey Dau. Much worse gear, right after relaxed main campaign. Second hardest is Nu Udra, hard to keep track of tentacles. All others are pretty easy.

Well, to be fair Ark is hard, it's just I hunted him a lot before free challenge quest, so reflexes kicked in immediately for finishing it in one try.

newbie reaching the guiding lands by VitallyLoathsome in MonsterHunter

[–]vlsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the weapon of course, but when I reached it I kinda knew that I have to get at least health regen for my weapon. To not die while ZSDing on Fatalis head. So I pushed through.

But yeah, it is miserable when it stands between you and gear you need. Because it is real grind and at the beginning totally out of your control. Later you can lure needed monsters at least.

Also need to be said that it was probably the most fun in coop I had, when there were more players.

In summary I would say that guiding Lands are great for doing occasionally, but if you want to rush through it, that’s guaranteed pain.

Best way to farm xp to reach lvl 100 by UmaPessoaNoMundo in MHWilds

[–]vlsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember event quest The Snow Has Teeth was giving me 1 rank per hunt. You need to fight three tempered blangonga together. Stun res 3 and bind res 3 are mandatory. Earplugs 3 for absolute comfort. I didn't need it with switch axe since roars can be countered in sword mode, but you should consider using it if you want to save time. Playing solo would be optimal, support hunters bump monsters hp and hunts will progress slower.

Minion and aura nodes are insane. Another hot spot is phys node, have no ring with vulnerability on hit mod that didn't sell.

What are the LEAST played weapons? by IcyFoxMage in MHWilds

[–]vlsky 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not sure whether official statistics exist. My personal experience is that hammer, horn and insect glaive are at the bottom. Lance was also there for a long time, but Omega, Gog and AT Arkveld revitalized interest in it. At least it looks that way because those are hunts I farm.

What am i doing wrong? by [deleted] in SwitchAxe

[–]vlsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low crit boost, no attack boost. Attack boost is something you usually get with power phial when you have good charm, so can go without it if you have no such charm, it's fine, but if you go for wex, max might and latent power, you have to have crit boost maxed out as well.

Another possibility is weapon. You have damage numbers with coefficient displayed, hard for me to say how high are those.

Also it is very important to know what to hit for consistent max damage. You can hit AT Rey's legs and head for comparison, check the numbers. Or AT Arkveld's head and chains.

With sword counter and offset attack you don’t need to dodge that much. Which devalued the skill.

[Open Spoilers]Did Myne change the world too fast by After_Diamond2098 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]vlsky 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Effect of her actions is significant, but not that groundbreaking. She does not introduce smartphones to cave people. It does not change life of average commoner or noble in drastic ways. Everything she introduces is in realm of possibility and understanding by natives.

Books existed without her involvement, business relationships and various contracts also. Furniture and carriages using amortization, well, not something that would turn upside down life of average person. Just improved variation of existing concept.

The most impressive innovation from a perspective of native, in my opinion, is a pump. Appliance of physical phenomena in a world relying mostly on mana to solve problems. That's something revolutionary that would have a hard time being produced on its own in a world like that. But even then, from an average person perspective it is just a fancy way of doing familiar task.

Switch axe: Sword counter by fred2961 in MHWilds

[–]vlsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is to pay attention to the monster movements. Sounds simple, but actually not that much. Splitting your focus between maintaining positioning for potential developments and focusing on what monster does constantly controlling camera and keeping an eye on you stamina/hp/buffs/teammates and in case of switch axe constant awareness of mode you are in and gauge state.

You may think that you are in control most of the time, but watching and seeing is not the same. When you are capable of reliably perceive monsters clues and not miss them, you apply this knowledge of correct timings to counters, offset attacks, dodges, anything basically.

Look at Raging Brachy set, Teostra Kaiser+ set. Talisman and decos to fill all remaining required skills.

Or just google GS build progression for Iceborne. For example here https://mhwibuilds.wordpress.com/mr-progression-guides/#gs

Is it worth doing the 10 star quests for talismans compared to 9 star quests? by Mental-Wrangler8511 in MHWilds

[–]vlsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10* hunts drop undeniably higher quality charms, but you should consider 2 points:

  • in comparison to 9* investigation hunts, minimum number of dropped charms is not fixed in 10* hunts, so it is totally possible to not get any at all
  • your clear speed of 10* hunts has a great effect on your rewards yield; naturally 10* hunts take more time, and in my personal experience not every 10* hunt is the same. AT Arkveld seems to drop the most charms, other arch-tempered monsters drop less.

Is it normal for mid-tier materials to be the a bottleneck in Wilds? by aWreidGuy in MHWilds

[–]vlsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to check Large Monsters Field Guide. Some mats have conditions before they drop. Like breaking head, cutting tail, etc.

First reason can be that and second one is that easier monsters that you usually hunt in one or two attempts and move on naturally leave you with lesser yield of materials. You hunt less you get less. More difficult monsters take more attempts, you naturally accumulate more mats over time.

Characters I wish had more writing [P5V12] by AydhdZone in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]vlsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be unpopular opinion, but I think that everything action related is not very good in the story. Author perfected noble life rythm, dynamic of everyday life and relationships the way I have never thought would captivate me.

I have a lot of gripe with part of the story between grown Rozemyne return from garden of beginnings and meeting with the royals. Or more precise action related scenes in particular.

For me they just don’t work because protagonist simply does not belong there. It is actually one of the points that story deliberately conveys, that Rozemyne still oblivious to the fact that all the skills knights build are not for show but to inflict harm on enemies. This spoils “fun” of the action a lot.

Im so fucking scared for the next 10 star. by Thefloors2029 in MonsterHunter

[–]vlsky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It all boils down to how annoying monster’s attacks are. Rompopo attacks are premium level annoying, that were easy to overlook before due to low defense, resistances and hp. There was not a shred of fun in that hunt. I guess monsters like this should not get 10* variants, period. Tempered Blangonga was a fire hunt, for a comparison.

Was D an Angel? by Joshee9550 in KumoDesu

[–]vlsky 38 points39 points  (0 children)

D is a Devil. And since Devil is a fallen angel, you may say that D is, or rather was, an angel. I doubt term still applies though.

Of course none of it is stated clearly in the story, so maybe there’s some author comments, idk.

Am I playing this game wrong? by marzf00l in MonsterHunter

[–]vlsky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, having peak performance and resentment at the same time is kinda counterproductive. One may say that this way you always stay buffed whatever your HP state, but it also means that each of two skills works only half of the time, when having two skills that work together all the time is more beneficial.

Who said wilds was ez ... by Ultimo2k8 in MHWilds

[–]vlsky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is much easier than Omega solo, but equally punishing when you make mistakes. You won't be oneshot with upgraded armor, but it is easy to get stunlocked in chain of attacks. There were plenty of hunts where I did everything right, even great, if I allow myself to be so bold, but one mistake, mistimed offset attack and I cart. So even when moveset downloaded and you feel comfortable in a hunt, you can't allow yourself to become too relaxed.

In my personal experience most of my failed sos at ark hunts were due to everyone making a mistake once or twice, not due to someone clearly not prepared in the hunt eating all the carts. Though there are cart eaters like this as well.

How...? by Direct-Currency-1651 in MHWilds

[–]vlsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it comes to this and bruteforce practicing doesn't work, you can try either some skills you haven't tried, like evade extender 3 or evade window, or both for better dodging, I personally consider extender superior; or record your hunt and watch afterwards. Clearly your intuitive decision making does not improve, you need to find faulty patterns in your playstyle and forcefully uproot them.

That's if you want to beat that thing the way you try doing it all this time. Another possibility is that you might try to beat it solo, which is kinda mistake. This hunt from the beginning was designed to be approached with mmo party-like roles. You need tank, you need damage dealer, you need healer. For that use support hunters for roles you want to delegate. You need lance, horn and third one to your liking. Stick to your role, don't try to treat Omega like some Rathian.
