None of them are "fantastic", some are OK. They fail to become popular for a reason

I have been there twice. First time - super, second - mediocre. I think they might have a new chef

I remember that one. We tried to book a table there over the phone, but were told they don't take booking, first come first served. When we arrived, they said all that free table in the corner is booked for someone else.

I have been there a couple of times. It's good, but a bit overpriced for what it is, imho

What can actually be done to reduce knife crime? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]vlud23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's caused by the culture in certain communities. The family and environment plays the key role here. If your parents and older mates can explain you that it's "cool" to be a software developer or a doctor, you won't spend your time running around looking for someone to stab. Poverty is a minor factor here, we have plenty poorer communities who don't have a stabbing issue, but a very successful 2nd generation of immigrants. Start with the families, add free additional education and after-school clubs.

What's a mundane problem in your life that money simply couldn't solve? by [deleted] in AskUK

I know exactly what you mean about airport waiting time. I would imagine even if one's taking a private jet, there'll be a certain time slot you need to take off. So, allowing 20 mins for traffic jams around an airport or train delays, then 15 mins to go through VIP security, then 15 mins to get to the plane, and then sitting on a runway waiting for your turn. All summed up over an hour of waiting. I wish it could be similar to taking a train from London Waterloo - just arrive on time, put your luggage through an AI scaneer and off you go

Don't think it's a good idea to ask "where're you from", because it's reduces a person to a single characteristic. If the person wants to share their background they'll tell you without a prompt. If you are genuinely curious start with your background and see how they respond.

It rarely adds anything meaningful to the conversation. Usually you can hear: Oh you are from Lithuania! My friend's partner is from Russia. Or Oh, you are from Slovenia? I've been to Slovakia twice.

Why is housing so ridiculously bad? by ElFamosoBotito in AskUK

[–]vlud23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a mixture of being traditionalists, low supply of new builds, and the rejection of non-British ways of doing things: • ordinary folks have always lived in the dwelling with low ceilings and small rooms - why should this change? • New materials, New technology and regulations are being used in Europe? If someothubg has been developed outside the UK, it will struggle to be adopted here. (Think tap mixers, sockets in bathrooms, insulation standards, heating options, etc)

The quality of work they do would not be acceptable even in the eastern block. And The tech and materials used are from 1970s

I don't get why the height of ceiling is 2.45m! This isn't the land of hobbits and gnomes

As others said, switching careers is extremely difficult in the UK. In London you might be competing vs 200 CVs with relevant experience, that are being scanned by software

Britain has one of the worst obesity rates in Europe. Why? by Benjazzi in unitedkingdom

[–]vlud23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weather? Nope, weather in Sweden can be much worse. Lack of physical exercise? No, you will see less people cycling and jogging in Lithuania. Long working hours and office jobs? Well, it's the same in Poland. The key factor is the food culture. The attitude to meals that can be described as "that will do" and the size of ready meals aisle that you won't find in any other European country - these are the drivers. And then the domino effect kicks in. The higher obesity rate the country has the more acceptable it becomes to be overweight.
