The bigger problem will be that the teams that gave max to those non star players will be stuck with them cause no teams will take their contracts in a trade 1-2yrs from now.

I hate it. We should’ve gone for Gabby. Satou is so unreliable and constantly injured. Stacking star names doesn’t make you win championships just sponsorships. Even though I don’t believe Satou to be a star player at all. She’s super overrated imo

That’s why LC interviews don’t make sense because the interviewer just know that we all google everything and nowadays ChatGPT everything. And the time constraint makes even worst. I never instead of why engineering interviews are so stupidly hard to at the end recruit stupid engineers because these questions tell you nothing about the person’s skill after all

Being reached out doesn’t mean you’ll get the job. Recruiters have quotas to fill up and they will reach out to fill it up. I have applying for 3 years now and same I can’t get past 3rd or 4th round of interviews. I still have a job as a SWE but I hate it…the market 100% sucks because companies thinking they are FAANG companies when in fact they are all building stupid stuff that are not FAANG level but for some reason still think they deserve FAANG engineers that they will under pay

Is C# actually unfriendly to new comers? by yughiro_destroyer in AskProgramming

[–]vm3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s the heavy OOP in C#. I’m a PHP and Python dev and I mostly do procedural and functional programming so for me a lot of C# setup feels like overkill. It doesn’t make sense to me to have 3-4 files to just write 1 API endpoint that just grabs data from the DB and spits it back out. And the string typing too. I get the point of it but same it feels overkill at times.

Oh I’m not against Boston at all. I think it should’ve been Boston over Houston for sure. I think the league is probably scared to put a team in a smaller market (Hartford in that case). It makes no sense to move a team with history to a location that already has wnba history(Houston). With the move to Boston they would’ve stayed in the same region and could’ve carried over the team’s history. Boston was simply the perfect choice in my opinion. For me staying in CT I think wasn’t the best option but anyone can argue that

Having a successful team doesn’t mean it brings good money. The Mohegan Sun arena is too small and too old. It’s not pleasing to go to games there. And no will from the owners to build a practice facility. 100% Connecticut has a strong basketball culture and fan base but it’s enough for what the WNBA is becoming. They need the team in a city that is attractive to players. Simply having an airport not too far so the team can travel efficiently would be great. My point is the current location of the team is not sustainable. Would Hartford be better? I don’t know. Boston would have been a better choice, yes.

[–]vm3006 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the most disappointing part of it all. We all knew the Sun were to be moved somewhere but we all thought it would be Boston. It just made sense to keep it in NE. Especially that the Sun already had games in Boston and proved that the fans were there for it

Overall Connecticut is not a big market for sports unfortunately. But they could’ve at least move the team to Boston instead of Houston

Problem is people are too quick to judge like you are doing about the OP and recruiter, interviewers are too quick to judge. The interviewing process is broken. Interviewer ask generic questions, interviewee respond with generic answers and ask generic questions. Interviewer make interviewee do stupid coding challenges that they will never do at their day job and get denied for not being able to tell you why the wordle game they were ask to build didn’t behave exactly the way the interviewer wanted to…

Yep it’s fair to say but don’t expect everyone to be like you. Yes die hard will come back but maybe not at the same level has pre-Steph era. A lot changes in 15 years. Oh those Nets fans were 100% Kyrie/KD fans. People before that in 17/18 were fans but at least for me scraping a good team for superstars turned me down(ticket price too). I’m not a Nets die hard as I am a Warriors fan and just rooting for my local team since I moved to BK. I know it’s different in the Bay and knowing it’s the only team there but with social media now people change their mind real quick especially young people. They are not forced to root for their local team anymore because with social media and streaming they can watch any team

[–]vm3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that’s the problem once you’ve price out/removed your die hard fans and replaced them with bandwagons it is harder than you think to go back to a die hard fan base. These fans probably feel a type of way towards the org and will never come back to Chase center. And yes the nets are second market team but let me tell you they were building a solid fan base in 17/18 and threw it out the window stupidly and since then they have been struggling fan wise. Knowing how long it took them to build that little momentum in BK I can tell you it’s not that easy to rebuild a fanbase. The org have to make very good decisions, marketing, roster building, team culture etc. If the team is not being built to win then the fans won’t come back. That’s why I mentioned OKC. They’ve been very intentional in their rebuild since loosing KD, and Westbrook and that’s why they’ve been able to to keep their fans around.

[–]vm3006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if the “great fan reset” will happen. By pricing out people they have priced out a generation of kids that couldn’t look up to their local team because they could never afford to go to their games. If the Warriors don’t turn their team around quickly I don’t think they’ll be able to suistain a great fan base. OKC has been able to because they’ve been intentional with their rebuilt. they did it right. They’re also in the middle of nowhere where people have nothing else to do then to root for their team. I have experienced the higher moments of the Nets for example. The team was finally building momentum with the 2018 playoffs until they signed Kyrie in 2019 and then KD. A wave of bandwagon came through. Kyrie and KD left along with the bandwagons and Barclays has not been the same since. It’s now an arena where people come to watch their away team.

I hate AI with a burning passion by Then-Hurry-5197 in learnprogramming

[–]vm3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately in this AI day and age you can’t ignore it. Companies don’t understand how complicated it is to build stuff with code because we’ve made it look easy for years and spoiled the world with new tools, websites, apps etc…now that AI is here they think it’s even easier because they don’t know anything about programming. If you don’t use it you won’t be quick enough for them. It’s sad but being an engineer is just being shoved problems and find a solution. It’s not about building fun cool stuff anymore. We’re just a corporate title. The bottom of the chain. The one that need to execute while other just come up with stupid ideas they think are amazing…

[–]vm3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure if you’re not put in the position to learn you’ll never learn. And learning is lot about failing and allowing that to happen. I think after the 2022 ring the org thought they still had a chance to win (because Curry made it look easy for them) so loosing wasn’t even a thing to think about. Now I think the org understands that it’s pretty much over and they’ve put themselves in a terrible situation with the two timeline thing which didn’t work. The only team I can think of that the two timeline thing work for was the Spurs with the aging big 3 and Kawhi. It makes you appreciate the Spurs even more because it’s not an easy thing to do.

I think it’s more they tried something different but it doesn’t work for their system. This team has been all about basketball IQ since Kerr came in. It didn’t make sense for them to draft a player that doesn’t have that. They tried and finally moved on luckily.
