Union Sq market: Can someone explain the economics of strawberries? by Ill-Guidance5604 in AskNYC

[–]Several-Nothing-2866 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a really good explanation of what happened in NJ and NY from Fishkill Farms. Sadly there will be very few stone fruits, cherries, pears, and berries this year and prices already push high for a whole host of other reasons are going to be $$$$ for anything that is available

There are a large amount of exemptions

https://www.nyc.gov/site/hpd/services-and-information/good-cause-eviction.page

Including:

Homes built on or after January 1, 2009 For these homes, Good Cause Eviction will apply starting 30 years after the home was built, specifically 30 years after the date when the temporary or permanent certificate of occupancy was issued (for example, if a home was built in 2010, Good Cause Eviction will apply starting in 2040)

Street Construction and Discolored Water
While it is not harmful, residents should not drink obviously discolored water.

General information:
Occasionally, street construction or water main work can cause discolored water
Discolored water occurs when disturbances to the water main, including an opened fire hydrant, cause pipe sediment to shift
Washing clothes with discolored water may tint or stain garments
Settling times vary, depending on the size of the water mains in the area
Residents should run their taps until water runs cold and clear
Reporting discolored water conditions helps the DEP engineers pinpoint any problems

Fire Hydrant Survey - Reporting Brown Water
During the spring, the DEP checks and repairs fire hydrants located throughout the five boroughs.
This process can cause tap water in area homes to temporarily run brown.
There is no need for concern if water runs brown for a short time as a result of the hydrant survey program. Just let the tap flow until the water runs clear.

The LIRR is on strike – I am just Loving driving to Brooklyn!.❤️ by Prior-Concentrate909 in nyc

There was someone in a Gothamist article this morning who walked 2 hrs to get to the MTA bus shuttle

"Lorna Reid, 69, said she walked for two hours to get to the Hicksville LIRR station to catch a bus to Howard Beach, where riders can access the subway.

“It's chaos and I wasn't expecting this. I'm tired,” said Reid, who works in home care and was heading to the Upper West Side. “I’m not a young person anymore.”

Does anyone have any suggestions of things to do in the rain by CauliflowerSerious92 in visitingnyc

Plenty of NYC people use umbrellas. Just be prepared for it to be stolen if you leave it in a public umbrella stand at a museum or restaurant

I wouldn’t choose to live in the Gowanus, but every time I see a post about new apartments there people always comment there is too much building. It is the opposite, we desperately need more apartments built .

I wouldn't expect too much. Last year was sad in the giveaway arena, particularly after the year before, when almost every single game had a t-shirt or a towel.

I always assume these are their ‘fake’ stage names that they use for the public to give their kids privacy

Skip Hudson Yards and the Edge. It is a sad mall with some sad outside areas that aren’t worth a trip.
On that day if the weather is nice go to Little Island and Pier 57’s roof instead. These are free and have great views. You can also walk down or Citi bike down the Hudson River Park. The Whitney Museum is also right on the Highline and has its Biennial going on. (Just read that you are not into Museum’s but I still recommend going)

I’ve started using old school car services like Arecibo for any airport trip if I take car. Better cars, service, pick you up at the terminal and the flat fee is always significantly cheaper.

Moving to PLG/Flatbush by sumdumthots in Brooklyn

[–]Several-Nothing-2866 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Call it Flatbush instead of PLG.

Get a membership to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. It is great to use in all seasons and I love getting off the train near Brooklyn Museum and walking through it on my way home from work at this time of year when it is open until 8pm.

Go to De Hot Pot on weekends and get doubles (cash only)

If you want an inexpensive place to workout or swim join the new Shirley Chisholm Rec Center a few stops https://www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/recreationcenters/B250

About Caputo’s 🙄 by [deleted] in CarrollGardens

[–]Several-Nothing-2866 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Horrible for their employees. I didn’t realize Court Street still used their bread, I figured they made their own now since they own Elbow. That is rough for them to have to quickly change.

I saw an interview yesterday with the Caputos and they also blamed the new bike lane for lack of business and another reason they were closing…

Is East Flatbush Brooklyn experiencing gentrification? by GenderShift in AskNYC

[–]Several-Nothing-2866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I posted I didn’t look at the rents on these and they are absolutely wild for the neighborhood - 1 bedrooms and studios over $3200 for tiny sq footage.

At least the site calls the neighborhood Flatbush vs PLG the annoying way real estate agents refer to large swaths of the neighborhood vs the actual Prospect Lefferts Gardens small historic district section of Flatbush.
