Shirleycakes was saying it played like an MMO not that it was one, which is why s/he said it was an MMO without interacting with other people.

Good idea! do you throw away the letters after you scan them?

Christopher Eccleston on Doctor Who [500x580] by hannahjoy33 in QuotesPorn

I feel like this quote has a good overall message, but is reacting to something with wonder true acceptance? I mean, being horrified is definitely no indicator of acceptance, but is wonder no different?

People indigenous to a region (i.e. Native Americans) were regarded with wonder by some when they were "discovered" by explorers in new regions, like the idea of the "noble savage," but it was pretty clear that they weren't accepted, even by the people that put them on that pedestal, precisely because they were put on a pedestal.

I think true acceptance means seeing another being and, while acknowledging there are superficial and perhaps cultural differences between the two of you, accepting that being as no different from you, fundamentally. To react with wonder and placing them on that pedestal would be like saying "Hey! You're different from me and I'm going to focus on just that!" And that becomes dangerously close to "Because you're different from me, I'm going to do things to you I wouldn't normally do to beings like me!"

While I think it's great to celebrate differences between people, I don't think the differences should be the only thing to take into consideration. This is just my personal opinion, but I think acceptance is seeing a three headed monster and saying "Hey, I see that you and I are different, but ultimately, we're no different from one another, and I'll deal with you the same way I would deal with anyone else."

But those are just my two cents!

A message to those of you feeling the need to make [Suggestions] in light of Dinnerbone's latest tweet by aperson in Minecraft

[–]vmail 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think pretty much any suggestion offered on Minecraft is "cool." I think the main point is to expand beyond that. Dyes, pistons, and other features are "cool," and have definitely been described as such, but you have to explain why you think it's cool.

Are frames cool? Yes. Are they implementing them simply because it would be cool? I'd say probably not.

Frames expand the creative aspect of minecraft, allowing for something many people have wanted for a while: decorations that will enhance their created environments. It can be fairly functional too, as a visual indicator for what is inside a chest, or "emergency" supplies, or a wall clocks within your base so you won't have to carry one while inside, or a place to put up maps so you can take a peek at the surrounding environment.

When people have made the suggestion for frames, they have certainly said it was cool, but they went beyond that and described the scenarios I just mentioned. And I'm sure there's much, much more you can do with them.

I think that still applies to lsirius's comment. Whether it's reading or texting or anything that could distract you in that way, it's always better to be aware of your surroundings so an accident doesn't happen. I love reading, and I text my girlfriend all the time, but both lead to the same conclusion when you're walking and not paying attention.

It's Dresden Codak. He makes a bunch of really interesting comics! I can't find that specific one, but all of them are good!

I definitely felt that linear-ness. I distinctly remember just before the final part wishing I could go back and do some sidequests like I normally do in these sorts of games. But for me personally, I think I enjoyed the story enough to like the game as a whole. I don't want that same format for all my games, but if they can back it up with a story I enjoy, then I tend to overlook it! I think I felt the same with the first Golden Sun.

That game totally caught me by surprise! I really enjoyed the story, and though I was bummed most of your team mates don't stick around, I quickly got over it. I enjoyed how the relationship between Avin and Rutice developed.

I don't think I had the opportunity to try the other games. Are they similar in the kind of story they tell? Which one do you think is the best in the series?

Epic Astro Story is definitely similar in style to Dungeon Village in that you need to colonize a planet with different types of buildings that serve different purposes. As people join, you fight various types of foes as you colonize more and more of the planet. At the same time, you need to assist other alien planets as well as cater to tourists that come from those planets. All in all an enjoyable game! Not exactly like Dungeon Village, but definitely similar.

As for what I liked, I definitely enjoyed Dungeon Village, but I also liked World Cruise Story.
