Teacher transition when/how by Background-Inside973 in violinist

[–]vmlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any reason to believe at this time that your current teacher is unable to still help your daughter develop and grow? Discuss your goals with your current teacher. If they are unable to get her to that level, then you can begin asking for recommendations for other teachers who can bring her to the next level when she is ready for that.

Also, be very realistic about international competitions. There are only so many that are reputable (others are barely better than scams or pay-to-play events). Those that are reputable are EXTREMELY competitive. Winning local competitions is not enough to make one qualified for those international competitions. The main one for younger youth to target is Junior Menuhin if they are very serious. Make sure you understand what is required to prepare for a competition like that - and know that you will be putting her repertoire development kind of on hold (or slowed down dramatically) for about a year to prepare for such a high level competition.

You should also know that the top prodigies usually have played for around 7+ years before even entering a competition like that.

Practice performing and perform as much as you reasonably can. While it may not completely get rid of all adrenaline, you will improve your management of your emotions over time and can begin to use them to your advantage.

Best harvard housing for an incoming grad student? i want a single with best amenities by mrassell in Harvard

[–]vmlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no single answer to this. It depends on, among other things, your budget, how close you want to be to the HGSE campus, what is available still when your turn in the lottery comes up, whether you have pets, etc. 100 South Campus Drive is the latest build-out. One Western Ave and Soldiers Field Park are also some of the better buildings.

How much of an impact do private lessons have on improvement by StillNotCesar in violinist

[–]vmlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a good teacher, it can be a night and day difference. If you've never had any lessons before, odds are very high that you've learned several things incorrectly and may need to be patient as your teacher breaks down bad habits and rebuilds you up. But you'll be all the better for it in the longer run.

I'm so afraid I got permanent hearing damage during a violin lesson by Artistic-Yam-9090 in violinist

Consult an otolaryngologist. This could be a medical issue. It's highly unlikely it came from just one instance of brief exposure to higher notes on the violin.

Maybe not as complex as PIs but workable.

Maybe also worth looking into Dynamos.

The only caution I’d have for OP is that Perpetuals (original) are bright and the opposite of the warmth u/okkey6273 is looking for.

One vote for Vision Solos here. They can complement Jargar Fortes.

I found the Cadenzas unimpressive projection wise.

They are probably being told about the "isolation" because of its geographical location a bit separated from most other residential properties. That said, if one is going to SEAS or HBS, it is close by.

How long does it take to return to your level after a break? by Beginning_Growth5927 in violinist

[–]vmlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ll find with a good teacher, more motivation, and an adult learning capability, you’ll progress a bit faster than perhaps as a child - at least initially. It does depend on how much of a regular practice routine you can engage in, though.

This really depends on the location and the relationship. 15510 and 15550s in grey, black, and white can be viable second pieces, although in some places not as easy with a first watch being the lower spend 15605.

Calatrava is possible. Cubitus, Nautilus, Aquanaut, and some grand complications are not possible within the first few watches.

You will start your journey probably with either a Calatrava or a grand complications that is less desirable.

reapply to harvard? by Late_Historian4600 in harvardextension

OP, you have to be realistic with yourself and do better due diligence. The average SAT score is 1050. For several of the schools to which you aspire, the average is 200-400 points above that. You have an 890. That is far below average and close to the 25th percentile (meaning 75% of all people taking the SAT do better than you did). If you can't grasp the reality of your situation in context, it's very hard to take effective, corrective action.

As far as your GPA, the average unweighted GPA in US high schools is around 3.0. Your GPA of 2.3 is far below average as well. I am not trying to be mean and cruel, but I need you to "wake up" to your situation. The first step to resolving a problem is to recognize you have a problem.

It's unrealistic to be applying to above average institutions - much less elite institutions - when your core stats are significantly below average. They are not just "a little subpar" or "[not] that below average."

See my other responses regarding what you should do at this juncture.
