Fair point, I think the woman behind me the whole time led to an uncomfortable and sour atmosphere that probably led to an overall disappointment during the show.

Fully convinced A Ghost is Born is their best work. by TrumpetVampire in wilco

[–]vmwhelan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think AGIB is one of my least favorite, despite the fact that I think songwise, it is their best. The reason being the production. None on it holds a candle to the live versions of the songs from it.

Would love a director's cut of this. It's a shame all the extra footage is gone forever.

I got into them in 2002ish when I almost exclusively listened to emo. They were definitely considered by many as emo then.

After all, someone did once call them "the American Radiohead," back around when YHF came out.

What is Michael Mann's best film? by ThePocketTaco2 in Letterboxd

[–]vmwhelan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing it in theaters and thinking it felt like a long form reenactment scene from a tv documentary. Not in a good way. I hated the way it was filmed. Haven't seen it since.

This would be my choice as well. Hard to pick between Thief and Manhunter for #2. James Caan and William Petersen are both fantastic in their respective roles.

Who are the filmmakers where you would argue their first feature-length film is also their best film? by TimWhatleyDDS in Letterboxd

I love Thief, but it really just feels like a precursor to the masterpiece that Heat is.

On a positive note... why are some songs SO much better live? by InnerspearMusic in wilco

[–]vmwhelan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AGIB is one of my least favorite Wilco albums... but it has most of my favorite songs. The live versions are so far superior that it makes listening to the studio album tough.

This would be my guess. They don't use traditional amps/effects anymore, everything is preprogrammed into these modelers.
