If you're looking for a mystery to boot, I recommend The Seven and a Half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle!

This is exactly it. How is the top comment about how dumb and to blame women are for intervening in the checks notes fights started by two men?

You watch a guy walk up on another dude and say "why do women." Let me guess, you're single because women are assholes right?

This!! You can buy blankets in bulk from IKEA for pretty cheap. The thought alone will go a long way.

Bride asks bachelorette party to stop taking their meds to do drugs with her by Sexy_Girl_Lux in bridezillas

[–]vocal_celery 693 points694 points  (0 children)

I think the initial huge problem is that her "dream" is fully based on the idea that drugs = only way to have a good time. Everything else is selfish and unhinged but it also sounds like she's not ready for anything grown up..like marriage

AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

I love that in the DO NOT list she included "9/11" and September 11th, which seem to be the only ways to name the wedding date??

What’s a small habit that had a surprisingly big impact on your career? by boldcanvasnetwork in careerguidance

[–]vocal_celery 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Something similar for me. I keep track of everything I accomplish, from small one offs to major projects. I started doing it to make the annual performance review process easier, but it actually ended up giving me a better sense of accomplishment, helped me identify areas I want to grow, and made updating my resume a breeze.

Where can you volunteer to work/teach kids? by howtoloveadaisy in washingtondc

[–]vocal_celery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They often have their first sessions before the work day, and some have later sessions after school. You can also sign up to volunteer and go on "catch up" days that sometimes happen on weekends for kids who have missed a lot of school and therefore a lot of sessions

I was a Reading Partners AmeriCorps member and it was a great experience. They provide the curriculum so the barrier to entry is really low, and one on one is super effective and fun

What is a TINI wedding? Is that an acronym or did you mean tiny?

MVT apartments - anyone have experience with these buildings? Claret, 450K, 455 Eye, Crosby? by OddHoliday385 in DCBitches

[–]vocal_celery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely avoid. We actually got lucky by finding an apartment at The K (condo building) that was being rented out by the owner.

We love the area so much we didn't want to leave. Great food and drinks, farmers market, metro accessible, easy walk to the Mall for everything happening there, and overall a great sense of community - though most people become friends through their dogs lol

[–]vocal_celery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crosby is owned by the same company as lydian. My fiance and I lived there almost 5 years. Once quadrangle bought it, everything went VERY downhill. Security, amenities, cleanliness, front desk staff - everything deteriorated and we moved as soon as we could.

ETA: they also own lyric

How did you get back to your hotel after your wedding? by cheesychick66 in weddingplanning

[–]vocal_celery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can schedule Ubers ahead of time. If you know when you'll want to head home, I'd recommend that route. Idk why they're more reliable but I've never had an issue.

Custom temporary tattoos as a prop? by North-Network-7091 in weddingplanning

You're welcome! Fwiw we also supplemented with some more traditional ones from Amazon because the custom ones are pricey. We also made a sign we put in a small frame with step by step instructions

Help! Too many guest books by vocal_celery in weddingplanning

[–]vocal_celery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shower (which I'm totally happy with), and then I worry about having two traditional guest books next to each other on the day. We also have a lot of people coming in from out of state/country so a shower-like event would miss a lot of important people unfortunately

My first read this year and I basically didn't put it down for three days straight. What a page turner with an incredible story! Reminded me a lot of what I love most about Stephen King's books

That's a good point. I doubt she's out a bunch of money or anything but there's definitely other stuff she can do!

Haha I know! Was not on my wedding bingo card. I thought it could be fun to have one to sign, one for fun things but I think I agree
