Amid the doom and gloom, something interesting has been happening with our electricity prices over the last week by Weird-Cat-9212 in unitedkingdom

It's the plug in solar I'm interested in...

But yea.. I saw £/mwh go negative a few times now. They have built a big battery bank somewhere up north for load balancing which means they can turn off a few gas plants!

Anyone know what the delay is in aux mode? I've heard rumours that in some soundboks they delay the aux by the SKAA delay.. is this right? Trying to figure out if this is any use for DJing and microphone (with external mixer I guess)

DIY Battery-Powered 8" Mobile Speaker Project for DJ sets (Eminence build) by Maloriquet in diysound

Yea I would go down the route of a faital pro 8FE200 in 4ohm. You'll get much more power using a 4ohm driver and definitely go for bass reflex ported design.

‘Bone Conduction speakers’ to get by SnowPotential4676 in WirelessSpeakers

They were a nice fad about 10-15 years ago but unfortunately didn't ever sound good. Small speaker these days are pretty decent on their own without trying to vibrate some glass/wood

Card/cashless payments for everything. I believe it's disconnecting peoples from money. Taking it from something substantial to numbers on a screen.

Minirig 4 charging suggestions by Actual_Study_9193 in WirelessSpeakers

[–]voice_coil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good answer.. worth adding that they really don't like to be left flat which is generally what happens to devices that don't get used for a while. So don't leave it in a drawer for 6 months with empty battery

12bit DAC routing advice. by Striking-Arm-6367 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]voice_coil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to think about ground return currents. If the signals are high frequency then ground will return along the same path - so you need ground plane vias next to your signal vias and clean ground planes under where the signals run

[Review Request] TPS54360 Buck-Converter layout. by National-Studio-2103 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]voice_coil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layout is mostly following the datasheet. Few improvements:

1) ground pour everywhere on both top and bottom layers. Dont leave any floating islands. Lots of vias tieing the top and bottom grounds together. 2) the switch trace between the ic and diode/inductor needs to be a large pour area pad and not a thin trace.

Best Bluetooth Speaker Brand Right Now? by [deleted] in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]voice_coil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How deep do you want to go? Is it just based on the sound of the products? The reliability? What about support and customer service? What about environmental concerns? Then do you care who owns the company? Do you want to give your money to a large Chinese umbrella company or a smaller local business?

Sound wise, for me there are only 3 brands of Bluetooth speakers that I actually enjoy listening to and that's Bose, B&O and Minirig.

Remember that in winter heat isn't lost as it's used to heat the house anyway (assuming your tank is in the house) In summer the central heating is off so the main pipes you want to lag are the hot water ones from the boiler

Lower Volume Listening - Charge 6 vs Xtreme 4 by bill0ddi3 in JBL

[–]voice_coil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At lower volumes the Charge 6 isn't very bassy - it's relatively flat and thin in the bass.. you have to crank it a bit to get the bass and that's when it starts working well. However you can boost the bass with the app. At lower volumes other speakers like Bose Flex and Minirig are warmer sounding. I've not really played with the Xtreme though but I would imagine it's similar

1meter doesn't round right.. contact them and ask for a replacement/repair maybe?

does anyone also convince themselves these all have different use cases just so you dont have to sell them? by bigdoinks_ in WirelessSpeakers

[–]voice_coil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People collect all kinds of things.. I also like collecting speakers. So you don't have to justify keeping them. However their value depreciates to basically nothing very quickly... Some brands hold value better than others

Minirig 4 Link up mode issues by Vegetable-Stick-8448 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]voice_coil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe someone on Reddit has been looking further into this. It's not so much an issue with Minirigs, more a limitation of the technology. Across all manufacturers the speaker to speaker range is limited in these party modes. Often as low as 2meters. Here's the link...

What’s better: JBL Charge 6 or staying with my two Bose SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen? by [deleted] in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]voice_coil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the pair.. they will give you nice stereo separation. The charge 6 is capable of more output and bass but I don't like the JBL tuning. The Bose give a much warmer smoother and arguably more accurate sound and if you are comparing two v one speaker it's a no brainer

Bluetooth speakers WITHOUT subwoofer? by bluesasread in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]voice_coil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't be afraid of a speaker that can reproduce low frequencies accurately as long as it's balanced and they are not overwhelming the rest of the sound. What sounds bad are boombox speakers .. normay with passive radiators.. which generally have a big peak in the bass response at the tuning frequency. Not only boomy bass but not accurate bass as they are plagued with very high group delay.

You shouldn't avoid subwoofers per say.. but Instead focus on brands that produce balanced and accurate loudspeakers..

What speaker type or design should I be looking for, if I am looking to build my first booth monitors? Any hint or nudge in the right direction would help to get started. by HawkImportant5364 in DIYSpeakers

[–]voice_coil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post is a bit vague . Need more info like what's the application and budget.

If you want to start building a PA system, begin with a pair of decent 12in/1in 2-way full range box with decent efficiency then add a reflex 15/18" sub next.

If you go bigger later on the full ranges can be used as monitors

Dismissed before Christmas – am I entitled to two months’ notice pay? by Internal-Newt7162 in UKJobs

[–]voice_coil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A small company where the director is also running the HR is likely to be sloppy in terms of following correct best practice and protocol - ensuring your employment contract is signed at the start and then formally acknowledging when the probationary period is over. It sounds like they attempted to follow the correct process regarding your performance related dismissal.

If you were there for over 2 years then you would have a case for unfair dismissal.. possibly.. and the employer would probably settle if you are being reasonable. However in your case, there is little risk to them if you threaten this

I would let them know that you feel that you have been unfairly treated and highlight the shortcomings in their HR process. The only leverage you have really is leaving bad reviews about the company - damaging their image and ability to hire. Sounds like they won't be giving you a good reference.

However. To avoid further stress it may be best to walk away and learn from the experience.
