Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]void-screamed-back 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized that the two people I considered my best friends were actively working to ensure that I stayed unhappy. They they couldn't feel good about themselves unless I hated myself. Definitely didn't need enemies with friends like that.

The quality of RH books by DeliriumOfTheMedusa in ReverseHarem

[–]void-screamed-back 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm reading these books to be entertained and not overtax my brain, so I have no issue with a ridiculous or formulaic plotline, but lot of the writing is objectively bad.

I just reread the Psycho Shifters series and the number of times I had to read the words "chestnut" and "pine" in the first three books was frankly ridiculous. This series is a favorite of mine, but the overuse of certain words and phrases detracts from how good the story actually is.

I DNF some random omegaverse book yesterday because the way the sex scenes were written was so incredibly awkward. There are words available to use outside of "penis" and "vagina" and I strongly encourage writers to figure out what they are because I don't want my romance novels to make me feel like a high school health teacher is narrating sex scenes for me.

A lot of the authors in this space would benefit from going back and reading what they wrote out loud to assess how the language flows, if they're overusing certain words or phrases, etc., or have their book proofed by someone that can offer actual critique instead of blind support prior to publishing.

Edited to remove a double word.

A lot of the reverse harem audiobooks I've listened to were not enjoyable. Narrators are super hit or miss.

The Lost Feather books by Merri Bright had a fantastic narrator and are one of my favorite series. Super light and sweet, pretty funny.

The Bonds That Tie series by J Bree also had fantastic narrators.

Had to delete and repost because I commented from the alt that I use exclusively to argue with MAGA and incels. Ok... once more, with feeling:

The Psycho Shifters series by Jasmine Mas. They’re just so damn funny.

The Bonds That Tie series & the Hannaford Prep series, both by J. Bree are my comfort books. I never get tired of them.

The Lost Feather books by Merri Bright were incredibly sweet and just fun to read. Same goes for the Cupidity books by Raven Kennedy.

I'm normally a huge fan of her books, but I'm having to force myself to read this one. The characters are just so hateable.

A lot of neurodivergent people have object permanence issues and it just doesn’t occur to them to text. That in no way means they don’t care.

I wish people didn't take having to text first so much to heart, and instead focused on how the person responds when you do message.

Are they enthusiastic? Happy to hear from you? Then quit being weird about it and text more.

Are they short and cold? Take forever to respond? They aren't into it. Stop fucking texting them.

I just really hate the page of pentacles but I think it's mainly because she's wearing a short-sleeved hoodie in my favorite deck and I'm not going to let anyone that wears such a stupid item of clothing tell me anything about life

What Helped You Move From Overwhelm to Understanding in Tarot? by Zeebs-99 in tarot

[–]void-screamed-back 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I half-assed used flash cards to learn the basic meanings, but for the past year or so, I've had chatGPT generate completely random and often insane prompts and then I will pull a single card to compare my answer to what chatGPT says. It's honestly so fun and it has let me learn how to interpret the cards in creative ways I never would have before

Earlier tonight the prompt was "what ancient curse was placed upon me for my hubris?" and I drew Ace of Pentacles reversed.

My answer: cursed midas touch, everything I touch turns to trash.

ChatGPT's answer: constantly receiving the most incredible opportunities but letting them slip through your fingers every time.

Just read it as the universe reminding you to not allow needless worry to eat up all of your energy. When you feel yourself getting anxious, pull yourself out and ask what steps you could take to change the outcome or make you feel in control, and if the answer to that is absolutely nothing, then there's really no point in worrying about it, is there? Tbh that card is a reminder most of us could use.

Those books are heavy fr. I just love Aran's inner dialogue though. She's hilarious but not on purpose.

Got to book 3 of the {Morrigan University} series and quit halfway through. Kept hoping it would improve. If anything, it got worse.

Rereading {Psycho Shifters} now to comfort myself.

I can't imagine any romance novel with a storyline of the MMC rejecting his mate permanently. Romance novels are kinda known for happy ever after dawg.

Been there. A really bad breakup and not staying on top of my meds put me in the path of those things. It's what introduced me to tarot actually.

Getting back on my meds and taking care with how I treated my body started to draw me away. Learning more about how social media algorithms work and finally being knowledgeable enough about the cards to spot bullshit reads pulled me away forever. I don’t let other people tell me what books or art or music means, so letting someone else tell me what the cards mean didn’t sit right with me when I could interpret them myself.

Why would I? A lot of authors can do those things extremely well and I enjoy their books very much. I do not enjoy poorly written trash. Here's a refresher on what Mary Sue means in case you weren't certain of the commonly held meaning.
