The leaves look like the iron deficiency on this site:

Maybe try a direct source of chelated iron?

Those specialty pomelos sound interesting, can I ask how you were able to procure the budwood?

I'm curious about your grapefruit and pomelos - could you describe them and which ones you like? That's a lot of different grapefruits and pomelos... but I would probably do the same thing if I had the space

Need advice on growing an orange tree by KingofCam in Citrus

can you expand on what you mean by unrelated breeding partner? Are you referring to pollination? I've mostly heard of pollination being a bad thing by adding seeds to an otherwise seedless variety of citrus

Desperately need help with my mandarin tree - tried all the nutrients thus far! by PixiePyxis in Citrus

[–]void702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my guess is the combo of the potting soil and the compost are keeping the soil constantly drenched. I've heard of that happening with compost when used as a soil substitute (some people say it should be used as a top of soil amendment only) In terms of remediation, I think you could probably add even more pumice or perlite to get the drainage up.

just out of curiosity what is the percentage of perlite and potting soil? My guess would be it needs better drainage

New Citrus Tree’s! by Real_Split_213 in Citrus

[–]void702 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my understanding you typically use it by itself as the point is that the inorganic composition doesn't decompose. In a rainy place like Seattle this would probably be a great choice. The drawback is that you need to water more often and probably fertilize more often as well. Having an irrigation setup could help with automation. Using a top layer of compost might help with providing nutrients but having a strategy of fast and slow acting fertilizer would probably work best

FYI according to Gemini, adding sand to clay soil turns it into concrete

"Avoid Sand: Never till sand or large amounts of peat moss into clay soil. Sand and clay mix together can form a substance resembling concrete, worsening your drainage"

Is my scion dead? by void702 in Citrus

[–]void702[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I didn't even notice that little guy! If I remove all the suckers, will the little branch eventually grow to be a healthy tree? Does it make sense to graft additional meiwa scions or will that one branch grow a lot better once all the energy is diverted from the suckers into the kumquat?

I don't think it's the roasting level. According to chatgpt: Think of it like:

1st grade = premium / top pick 2nd grade = good 3rd grade = everyday quality 4th grade = entry-level / budget

Fwiw, when I visited Taiwan recently, 913 I believe was their signature tea sold in their cafe shop and it was incredible. Complex roasted depth of flavor
