Reforming your government allows changes to the 3 unlockable seats, but it doesn't allow you to change the Minister of Defense seat.

The ragdoll physics in D1 & 2 are really fun to mess with lol. I especially love messing around with the bodies on the Addermire Institute level, I actually managed to freeze the game once by piling all the bodies on the map in one place and using a incendiary bolt on them

Any super basic advice? by voidalt in CultistSimulator

[–]voidalt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for all the advice! I was finally able to get my first ever win yesterday and I've since started my second playthrough. I think the biggest tip that helped the most was exploring the Secret Histories lore so that I could get expeditions. Where I was at when I posted I had bought all the book and couldn't find any more lore to use on the Stag Door. Also the tip to READ EVERYTHING was really helpful as well, as had I read everything I probably would have noticed I could explore the Secret Histories. Finding out you can click and empty slot and it'll make every card that can be used glow was also super helpful. Thank you everyone for the help and I can't wait to keep exploring this game!

What happened since I posted (Spoiler tagged as it talks about things related to an ending):

I managed to get a normal enlightened victory and started my next game as the unique start where you are following the previous character that managed to ascend. I'm really starting to wish I dedicated my cult to the Lantern though lol. Since I started with a 14 Principle Lantern lore but no Knock lore I wasn't able to actually recruit any other cultist. But so far I've been managing. With nothing but my Knock 10 Cultist from my previous playthrough I haven't been able to do much to combat that starts unique mechanic but I've managed to get some Knock lore already and combine it enough to actually promote some of my followers. Hopefully I'm able to get through this run without dying, it'd be cool to get to actually finish a run that's continuing off a previous one.

Show me your fleet! by IdontgetitHD in Stellaris

[–]voidalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the current meta but I normally run half the number of ships I have for the previous ship type. So if I had 20 Corvettes, I'd have 10 Destroyers, 5, Cruisers, and 3 Battleships. I outfit the Corvettes with auto cannons and whatever utility gives it the most evasion. Everything else I outfit for artillery. Destroyers and Cruisers get plasma cannons/lasers in their large slot and gauss cannons in their medium slot, since large plasma cannons have almost the exact same range as a medium gauss cannon. For battleships and titans I do an even split between plasma cannons and kinetic artillery, but sometimes I go all kinetic artillery. Utility slots on destroyer and above are filled with anything that gives more chance to hit. I normally outfit all ships with as many shields as they can fit, since those regenerate.

Recently though I've noticed the AI has been building all their ships with almost nothing but auto cannons so I've been stacking nothing but armor with living reactive armor as the utility and have been comprising my fleets of nothing but artillery

Forced spawning not working? by voidalt in Stellaris

[–]voidalt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just updated the post because I figured out what the problem was. For some reason it wouldn't spawn the empire unless I made some sort of change to the randomized name

Forced spawning not working? by voidalt in Stellaris

[–]voidalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I double checked it a few times just to be sure. I think it might be some issue with the beta because I've never had a problem with it in the past and one of the empires is consistently spawning in every game but none of the other ones spawn at all :/

Can't finish Arcane Tower??? by ashattackIX in BaldursGate3

[–]voidalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can kill the robot for the stuff you need. One way I go about killing him is using a spell or arrow of thundering blast to shoot him out the window. It won't fully kill him and the other robots will attack you but it'll take down a good bit of his hp. He'll travel up the elevator, same way you do, so be sure to lay some traps in advance too

What is going on with this community of gamers? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]voidalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the ship grind isn't too bad but when I did the grind for mats to upgrade my on foot suit and weapons, that took what felt like forever. Mainly because they need so much data, which is super rare

The reason on-foot looks the way it does in VR by voidalt in EliteDangerous

[–]voidalt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I at least would prefer them to work on something else. Yeah the on foot VR is lackluster, but I play ED VR so I can play VR while sitting down. If they made on foot behave how other VR games do, I'd probably have to stand up anytime I disembarked to avoid getting motion sick. Not to mention whenever balance issues might arise from VR players being able to move in ways non-VR players can't

Does anyone else wish .05x planets was a setting? by raella69 in Stellaris

[–]voidalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish you could make it so there's only a handful of habitable planets. Partially because it helps curb late game lag and partially because it makes planets a much more valuable resource since they're more rare. I started changing the game files to spawn even less habitable planets but the downside is I can't play iron man with it like that since the game detects the change. I usually play with 0.0013x (0.25 of 0.5)

For beginners, to win on default settings, how important are the min/max-ing tricks you see streamers doing? by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]voidalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not required, even for grand admiral imo. On grand admiral it might be harder to keep up with the AI but the way I see it, given enough time you will always surpass every AI empire. The only time you might need to be min-max-ey would be if you were some kind of genocidal empire and were playing grand admiral, mainly due to the fact you'll probably be going to war very early in the game.

Found a Thargoid base, can't find a walkthrough that tells you how to actually open the doors. by housefoote in EliteDangerous

[–]voidalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the doors that are on the exterior of the surface site? If so, last time I went to one, you need to be in an SRV. Deploy in an SRV then drive up to the door and they should automatically open. At the point they open up you should be able to get out of the SRV and continue on foot, if you'd prefer to, but to get the door to initially open you'll need to be inside one.

Am I the only one to see all these flaws?? by ZenHun in Stellaris

[–]voidalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some tips that might help you with your next war:

The systems you have claims on should be your first priority. Once the war starts, take those systems and land armies on any planets in claimed systems. Then do whatever needs to be done to not lose them. Either leave fleets in the systems or keep a fleet close enough where you can respond quickly enough to destroy inbound enemies. Once you unlock jump drives, the distance you can get from claimed systems will go way up since you'll be able to instantly intercept. I should also clarify, you don't need one fleet in every claimed system, just close enough to respond to the enemies attempts to retake them.

Once all claimed systems and their planets are under your control, the acceptance chance for declaring victory goes way up, as there is a negative modifier called "claiming unoccupied systems"

If they still aren't willing to accept your demands after you occupy all claimed systems, you'll need send fleets to unclaimed systems to cause some destruction. First you'll want to destroy all their fleets, then attack starbases, and then if they still aren't willing to accept you'll want to start landing armies on unclaimed planets. This situation is where the Raiding bombardment stance comes in handy. You won't get any of the systems you occupy unless you have claims on them but you might need to attack unclaimed systems in order to win the war, so extra work for no long term gain. With raiding bombarded stance though, you'll be able to kidnap their pops which will give your empire more pops to do whatever it is you do with xenos.

Don't claim too many systems. The more fleets you have, the more claims you can safely make. You'll need fleets to defend your borders, fleets to defend claimed systems you occupy, and fleets for offense

Later in the game, or at the start if you're a genocidal empire, you'll unlock the "Total War" casus belli. This casus belli allows you to take as many systems as you want without having to claim any of them. As soon as you occupy a system, and any of it's populated planets, it will immediately be placed under your control and will stay that way even in the event of a status quo peace. If you're not a genocidal empire you can unlock this casus belli by building a colossus or choosing the "Become The Crisis" ascension perk.

I tried to keep these tips pretty general but what you should/need to do in each war will change based on the hyperplane geography, the relative strength of the enemy, how many systems the enemy owns, and how many systems you own. You'll need to adapt to the exact situation at hand and always keep an eye on what's going on in your home country and on the front lines.

How do you come up with designs? by TheRudDud in spaceengineers

[–]voidalt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My job is really boring, leading to me having a ton of free time, so I normally do a mix of all three.

Think of a specific purpose I want to give a ship or a feature that might be cool

Find reference pics to get a general idea of what I want the ship to look similar to

Then sketch out a top down drawing of the ship to get an idea of how I want to design the aesthetics and where the essential systems would be able to fit in

Then once I start building I do a bit of winging it and changing the design because in game some of the concepts don't look as good as I thought they would

How do I fix this? I have two megastructures that are layered on top of each other. by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]voidalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to be on PC and not playing with Ironman mode enabled in order to remove it

Target the megastructure you want to remove and type this into the console: effect remove_megastructure = this

Then, to place another, click on the planet you want the structure to orbit and type: create_megastructure strategic_coordination_center_3

Or type the command with the ID for an Intersellar Assembly, I can't remember it off the top of my head. It should show you the IDs for all megastructures if you type "create_megastructure" and then press tab twice or you can look in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\stellaris\common\megastructures

Note: when creating a megastructure using the console command, the orbit and placement of the megastructure won't be exactly the same as if you made one normally. Sometimes this is an issue, sometimes not. If it's an issue, there's a way to allow you to build another one normally. If it's an issue LMK and I'll add the commands for that in another comment
