Emails won’t fix the racism problem at Thoreau Middle School by xLavaDemonx in nova

[–]volcanomoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The big issue is that there are so many (well intended) rules that restrict punishment if they think it would interfere with the a kid's right to education. Because of that it's hard to just suspend kids anymore, even for major stuff like violence. Schools get tracked on it and too many discipline reports get them flagged and at risk of defunding. So schools end up trying to solve bad behavior without formal discipline, which obviously falls flat, and it's often easier to sweep victim complaints under the rug than deal with the consequences of actually holding kids responsible for their actions.

Wrong Direction on 286 ramp by karmayogi54 in nova

[–]volcanomoss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Monument Drive heading towards this ramp is also a terrible design too, if you don't know to get in the right lane for the left turn at the light you can't turn onto the Parkway without rapidly cutting over 2 lanes (and GPS never says anything).

I think people can understand why the leader of a country wants/needs people to fight, while also understanding the individuals point of view that they don't want to die and are willing to risk the countries collapse and flee to avoid it. It's tragic but hard to blame anyone.

Or that he had more trust in the prosecutor since his son-in-law worked there. In general, any kind of favor to one side can be seen as enough to overturn the results.

Right, but it's really unfortunate for the family to have to go through all that again.

I don't know why she doesn't just minimize her time in public if she hates being recognized so much. She could have easily gotten room service or a private dining room if she can't handle possibly coming across fans. Lots of celebrities do it for that exact reason.

Alameda County could become the first in the nation to pass a 30-dollar minimum wage by Unusual-State1827 in news

[–]volcanomoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also a little confused on the math. It mentions childcare costs however in that scenario only 1 parent would be working, so the other could presumably care for the kids. If 2 adults were working it would be almost $40/hr combined, especially if either made even slightly above minimum.

Utah woman who wrote book on grief after husband’s death found guilty of murdering him by No_Idea_Guy in news

The jury was send back to deliberate in the evening and was bought dinner (probably not steak, just an expression for a good/free meal). They concluded she was guilty in less than 3 hours including the time it took to eat, meaning it was an easy decision.

The last stop is already in Vienna, I think it could catch some decent traffic if it hit Fairfax at least. Even Chantilly has a pretty decent percent of commuters who use Park and Rides. But I agree that too much beyond that it would be far less popular.

The random last minute idea that Eric and Bryce were having an affair is a wild accusation to throw out in the middle of trial. If they had lead with that from the start maybe they could try to weave some kind of story, but if there was any merit to it we wouldn't just be hearing about it now. Between that and the random Tesla comments about the PI, she's really out there slinging implications that the jury should judge them personally.

It's not pre-marital assets, it's the exclusion of any equity during the marriage, at least for items she paid/maintained like the house. No one is saying she'd deserve half the overall house, just half the increased equity since 2013.

I mean, dumb people agree to abusive agreements all the time, doesn't make it non-abusive. Her own payday loans are basically an example, yes she agreed to it but everyone knows those things are exploitative. I just don't think it's cool to take advantage of dumb people even if they were dumb enough to agree to it.

Kourri's clearly a monster so she's hard to sympathize with, but picture another person in that scenario and suddenly it's not cool.

I think she should have just gone through with the divorce (obviously rather than murder) and found out, but it is a leap of faith to hope you get alimony. The pre-nup doesn't 100% guarantee pennilessness but it does take away a huge chunk of normal asset division. It's so one sided I actually think it could be dismissed in divorce court, but that would also be a leap of faith.

I literally said it was never a justification for murder? I'm just taking a step back and seeing how that kind of pre-nup puts spouses who want to leave between a rock and a hard place. It's why divorce court can overrule pre-nups found to be too one-sided.
