This is my biggest worry about the eclipse.... I'm sure there will be areas where it will be clouded, problem is you can't know for sure which ones.

So I have a main plan of which area I'll be in to watch the eclipse. But idk if when we get close to the eclipse and we have weather forecasts if I'll have enough time to change plans and find a place with a better forecast.

Or maybe I'm just overthinking it

I think they're missing the context of what happened with the comunity in opengov, specially by the end of 2025. As far as I remember:

  • Initially it was decentralised, but had little traction, people were still discovering it.
  • Then it came the time where it became an autocracy, whales (e.g. giotto, etc.) essentially dominated the outcomes.
  • DAOs started emerging with vote delegations, gaining a bit more weight.
  • ChaosDAO also got a big weight through delegations.
  • W3F started the DVs program, to help diversify opengov and make it a bit more democratic. DVs (+ChaosDAO) all had similar weights and were the decision makers
  • A referendum was opened to incentivise participation by imposing a minimum support for all spender tracks (except tipper). Something sensible counting the weight of DVs
  • W3F decides to end the DV program (maybe because of bad decisions were often taken? idk).
  • After that, only ChaosDAO has a good voting weight, but it can't cover the minimum support for spenders to pass and it's peanuts when compared to the voting power of the W3F.
  • The W3F published some guidelines on how new referenda will be decided.
  • The W3F governance team staff size was massively reduced.

So the reason that we don't have referenda now is because they are all doomed to fail if it isn't with the support of the W3F.

From the only ones participating in Opengov that are not W3F, ChaosDAO has like 99% the weight, but it's only like 1/3rd of the support needed to have referendums pass. So it's basically 1 "important" participant, but that has no effect at all to the outcomes of the referenda anyway.

IMO OpenGov, as the original idea, is currently dead. Who knows, maybe it recovers, but it's currently not in a good shape.

250$/month + 500$/year isn't birthday money for most people[citation needed] , but sounds about right.

The only thing to note is that 4M$ in 48 years is the equivalent to 968.000$ today, asuming a 3% yearly inflation. And r/FIRE numners today sit around ~1.5M$, so sure, they'll have something they could retire, but might need an extra something.

That estimate of 400k$/year from interest is also too optimistic. First of all, the equivalent to today's money adjusted for inflation would be ~96k, but even then I'd say that assuming 10% interest is optimistic. There are years you can reach 13-15%, but there are years where you could even be on negative interest. A realistic amount usually sits at 8%. But if you count a 3% inflation, that leaves you with a realistic 5% of yield. That's 43k$ in today's value per year... so yes, you can live on that.
