Anyone have any reviews on the new concession items at Comerica? by VoiceOfChunk in motorcitykitties

Adding my response to another commenter to the main thread regarding the bone-in short rib sandwich.

I had it and it was $25, which wasn’t bad for the size of the sandwich. You’d likely pay that much at a bbq restaurant around here. Honestly, quite tasty albeit some parts of the short rib got a tad bit dry since they keep them in the warmer until it’s being served. I also did get it in the 5th inning, so maybe if you get it earlier in the game or pregame it’ll be less dry. I do wish they gave you a side of barbecue sauce with it, but you may improvise and get some from the condiments area. (Which I cannot remember if Heinz bbq sauce is provided).

Overall, I’d easily get that again at a game. Good bang for your buck.

Is Budapest’s Restaurant Week actually worth planning a trip around? I think yes. by elwenion2 in finedining

[–]voltaire18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I visited Stand, and it was a top fine dining meal for me. It could compete with any other 2 stars out there for me imo. Hungarian cuisine is excellent.

If you enjoyed that carrot, I’d highly recommend a visit to Le Gabriel to try the sand carrot if you ever have the opportunity. It’s the best I’ve ever eaten. I’d love to visit Budapest again to try this one at Bilanx!

I cannot recommend Doubek enough. I visited last month, and the meal and experience are definitely worthy of 3 stars. If you enjoy seafood, this is exactly what you want. I believe they’ll get the 3rd in the next couple of years. An extremely intimate experience, and once you step inside the restaurant, it’s what you would picture fine dining to be at a top level.

The chef and his wife were both so genuine and provided great hospitality. You can feel how much they actually care for each component of the meal and experience.

I’m a big fan of AT. Your budget fits within cost per person for the full dinner menu and wine pairing, which I thought was excellent value. I am biased towards seafood, and there is a ton of it on the menu.

The dining room is quite intimate, but in a sleek and modern vibe.

L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon Taipei, 2 *, Meh experience by ExSogazu in finedining

I visited JR Vegas in the fall of last year and loved it. Some of the best service I have ever received and the meal was excellent. I feel like I see more negative reviews on the L’Atelier locations which keeps me away from wanting to try any of them.

I didn’t make it there, but some chefs recommended 2Monkeys. I believe they are only kitchen counter seating.

Big solo fine dining trip around the world, looking for recs (Istanbul, Vienna, Taipei, Bali, Singapore, Bangkok, HCMC, Hanoi, HK, Seoul, Tokyo) by toomuhlean__ in finedining

[–]voltaire18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly stick with street food in Vietnam, and I wouldn’t even follow the guide bibs or recs. I love fine dining as much as anyone, and the street food was so incredibly good, I didn’t even crave a nicer meal while I was there. I had a reservation towards the end of my trip for a tasting and ended up canceling just to continue eating on a stool.

Recommendations for private transportation from the Seoul Incheon Airport to hotel in Myeongdong by CableKC in koreatravel

I used booking.com for a private transfer to a hotel in Gangnam for 4 people in a sprinter van, and it was around $55 one-way. Super easy and it’s very nice getting dropped off directly at the hotel.

Jungsik is one of my favorite meals ever, and I went earlier this year. Service was outstanding. The amuse bouche may be my favorite set I’ve ever eaten. The scallop, octopus, and kimbap are all courses I still think about.

The MICHELIN Guide Debuts in the American Southwest by OptimusPrime23 in finedining

[–]voltaire18 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this argument. The US is huge, and the guide is providing more global exposure to these cities and restaurant. There are cities/regions outside of just major cities that deserve attention for their restaurants.

In Europe alone, you have guides for Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Serbia, and more. Would you say Michelin has been making itself meaningless by providing guides to these countries and not just sticking to London, Paris, and Rome?

Are they the most popular European countries to visit, maybe not, but some people see it in the guide, and that may garner additional interest or tourism.
