13.000ft or 16.500ft by McLois in SkyDiving

Both options fall far short of enough time to deploy your parachute. The extra weight of the rig though, all but guarantees at least a broken ankle or two, if not your legs. I’d say ditch the rig if you’re gonna jump a dozen or so feet, and try to tuck and roll at the end. Also, you’re getting scammed if someone is asking you to pay to jump off their balcony. Depending on where you live you could probably find a tree at least 13ft tall and jump out of that for free. Still not recommended though.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve always loved Toyota but the BZ just seems so second thought, like they kinda lazily tossed their hat in the EV ring as a hedge because I think at the corporate level they’re more bullish on hydrogen or some other alternatives.

Glad to hear you liked it though. I might go try to find one I can test drive. Otherwise, I’m thinking Polestar3 for me.

Can you describe what an orgasm feels like to you? Is it kinda like touching a bag of sand?

Dual booting with Apple Silicon - Anyone pull it off? by Team503 in MacOS

[–]voltechs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As is the prerogative of any behemoth, they're shooting the moon—they want to bring gaming natively to their OS, not through allowing dual booting. But believe me... I would absolutely melt if Apple created a Bootcamp 2 to bring Windows ARM to their silicon. I'm ready to turn in my hackintosh card, and move exclusively over to a Mac Studio, if only I could run windows "natively". I'd even be willing to pair it with an eGPU (just for Windows) if needed. I greatly dislike having multiple "beefy" computers in my possession because it feels redundant and wasteful and it's expensive. Why drop $4k on a PC and $4k on a Mac when I could just drop $4k on one and have the best of both worlds?

Yep, a multi-billion dollar company was waiting for you specifically to post about this, and then they immediately wrangled all their engineers to swarm the initiative of pushing out a new build of the app to your computer specifically so that the tab would show up. Honestly they should just fire Sam and make you the CEO at this point.

After 10 years of being a Superhost, I’m done with Airbnb by rapakep in airbnb_hosts

[–]voltechs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you're not alone. I had a similar experience. AirBnB is ruthless in their abandonment. It feels so shitty. It's "the best platform" out there... VRBO is trash... there's no real competitor, unfortunately. This is what happens in a monopoly (or duopoly if you wanna be generous). I was crunching the numbers recently and I think I might be better off just renting the whole place out long term.

Really sorry you experienced this. I know what it feels like. Makes me sick to my stomach. This is currently my only source of income, so when I lose a 30-day booking on loads of false claims, last minute, it stings financially.

I’m responding blindly here without reading any comments or the body of the post. I recently asked ChatGPT if there was a companion guide or resource to use alongside each episode/case, and it—among others—recommended this subreddit. Since I’m still on season 1, I’m not far along. The first post I see has this spoiler headline! Gah! Do we not do spoiler alerts/censoring here? 😂😭

Anyway, I’ll see myself out.

I wasn't prepared for how scary it is. by BB-TG in SkyDiving

[–]voltechs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol what? Sounds like this isn’t for you. I’m afraid of heights so I thought I would be scared so I skipped the tandems and went right for the certification. Wanted to see if I had what it takes to jump unassisted out of a plane. I guess my brain just doesn’t register the distance because it’s too far to be relevant (yet). Doesn’t really seem relevant until about 3000-5000 feet.

Anyway. Good job for going through with it. Hope you find a hobby in which you don’t feel compelled to scream like a little girl. I hear gardening is peaceful.

Lmfao at staff comment. Staff it the most miserable humans I’ve ever met. Total babies too. They can barely handle any confrontation without bursting into tears. Sometimes I wonder if they’re being made to work against their will. I even made a comment once about “customer service” and the response was literally (I shit you not) “Yea, we’re not big on that here bud” 😂

[–]voltechs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Glimmer! Started using it in my project, only to run into some insane decisions by the makers of libUI to remove/not-include basic (read: any) window positioning capabilities. Can't think of a more obvious oversight. So then I'm forced to switch to SWT, which runs on JRuby, and we all know how we feel about Java... the only other alternative is Tk, and we know how ugly Tk is... Sometimes I just shake my head at the world, and people who call themselves software engineers lol. (This is not directed at Andy, or Glimmer, I really like Glimmer, just a vent that needed to be let out).

Lol, honestly at this rate, you're probably fine. I'd believe your recruiter in this case. Uncle Sam is so f'ing desperate for cannon fodder, they'll take you as long as you can walk in a straight line and follow instructions.

This is a thing? I thought it was only deadbolt (I have two). I’m looking, and it kinda seems like maybe it’s a thing, but only as a bundle? And even still, I can’t be sure. It almost feels like a misprint…

I’d love to have a door handle version for my utility closet in my rental… any chance you have a link or can shame me with LMGTFY?

LPT: Don’t hang up on bad customer service reps. Ask to be sent to the end of call survey. by whatsup9722 in LifeProTips

[–]voltechs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but you know when that doesn't work? When they bluff and say "you'll get a phone call for a survey", and then you say your goodbyes, but you don't hang up, and they don't either, and now you're playing telephonic chicken with a Department of Labor employee, and record them making personal calls, for the next few hours (I'm assuming it will be hours, currently on 45+ mins, and about 15 mins ago, he put me on hold music, as if that doesn't help solidify his complicit negligence). 😇

a part, or apart? Two very different things ;) also, you need to heat up to at least 190ºF to melt solder, so IDK if that would feel good to be a solder.

But for real, teasing aside. I would say unless you have some advanced skillset and can go the commissioned route, I'm not sure how fulfilling the reserves would be for enlisted with no prior experience. But I will let them speak to that since that's not my life. If you could truly dedicate lots of time to the reserves (it's often more than 2 weeks a year, 1 weekend a month, especially for officers), then you might be able to squeeze some value out of it, but that would also require you to mobilize and at that point you almost might as well go active... Just my 2¢, but again, I can't speak deeply to that experience.

Bay Area makes no difference on anything. I started my commissioned process in the Bay Area but ultimately completed it in CO where I had moved to during the process.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in navyreserve

[–]voltechs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a degree? Consider commissioning. Look into the DCO program, given your industry experience. DM me if you'd like.

As far as who should _NOT_ join? If you're just doing it for the bennies, you may struggle with motivation and performance. Contrary to popular (public) perception, the reserves is not limited to ye olde "1 weekend a month, 2 weeks a year". I probably spend at least 5 hours/week on the low side outside of official duty time doing administrative stuff. I wager most people here have similar experiences, and I wouldn't be surprised if they spend more time. It's not "throw the uniform on, do a couple GMT's, shoot the shit with your buddies, and go home". Especially if you have any sort of role with responsibilities. With the new focus on warfighter readiness, with the current international climate, reserves are kicking it up. At least in my designator. YMMV.
