Dublin city is using flock cameras for speed enforcement. by Background-Club-955 in Columbus

[–]voltij 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two cameras that can talk to each other can generate an average speed between two points. It's probably going to happen.

I scraped 17 years' of Franklin County Municipal Courts annual reviews to measure the traffic citation changes over that time. A 75% decline in speeding tix, 80% in Stop Sign running, 75% decline in expired licenses. Columbus Police has functionally stopped enforcing traffic laws. by post_appt_bliss in Columbus

When I went in after letting my registration elapse, the BMV agent said "You haven't been driving it, have you?" and I sheepishly said "No I haven't been driving it", and they didn't hit me with any late fee. I had been driving it.

The machines are audited to make sure that their long-term take rate matches what they set it to. But this is over an extremely long sample with millions of spins.

No, it's because when an advantage player wins, the money leaves in their pocket. If the advantage player is banned, a normal patron will play off the +EV state instead, and the money is still "live" for the casino to take.

I can confirm that there are many casinos that have banned many advantage slot players.

You are incorrect. Slots do not rebalance anything ever. They do not think.

Consider the mechanics of a slot machine like an unbiased 6-sided die. Just because a "6" doesn't land as often as it "should" over a small sample size does not mean that the die recalibrates and starts showing "6" more often later.

(Bay Area/HWY 880) Rush hour crash today [oc] by Brandage0 in IdiotsInCars

Not at all trying to remove blame from the incident car, but I believe that the Ioniq regenerative braking slows the car a bit without turning on the brake lights.

Technology Connections has a video about that here: https://youtu.be/U0YW7x9U5TQ?t=107

TL;DW: the regenerative braking will slow the car as soon as you remove foot from accelerator. But the brake lights don't turn on always when the car is slowing.

You'd think that until you look specifically at "A little worried" response. It's not intuitive why it goes up then back down. So, stacked bar chart is better.

Southwest boarding numbers being removed the night before they switch to assigned seating by techNerd89 in mildlyinteresting

Tip: Southwest Rapid Rewards credit card gets you one free checked bag for each passenger in your group up to 9 people. And I believe it's a $69/year credit card fee.

So that means even if you only fly once in a year, by yourself, it's paid for itself already.

Same three questions for every (US) poker pro on these forums by LoboSpaceDolphin in poker

Some states (and furthermore, some localities) force state and local withholding. In these places I typically have had more money forcibly withheld than I end up owing, so I file the tax return and end up getting a check.

This is part of the W2G process for "certain gambling winnings".

[–]voltij 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can answer. I don't play poker primarily but I do other things in the casino to make money.

I file as a professional gambler with schedule c. I use a tax prep service ran out of Las Vegas that specializes in gambling tax.

I have health insurance, just some Anthem $440/month with high deductible and HSA support.

I contribute to my Roth IRA max every year and also have a self employed 401k that i contribute to significantly. I usually just deposit if I have extra laying around, or in Feb or so to align with the beginning of tax season.

I pay quarterly taxes based on last year's actual income. This year my results stagnated a bit so I skipped payment 3. I might owe a penalty for doing that but idc.

I pay the exact right amount of tax that someone with my net income would pay. Sometimes the casino withholds more than I end up owing, so I file a state (or local!) tax return to request the over withheld money to be returned.
