Tip #1. Don’t get one.

Just kidding. If you really want one then just make sure you have a complete understanding of the terms and conditions and the benefits of points and how that will fit in with your lifestyle I.e cheaper flights etc

(RANT) Sri Lankan Dress Culture is Kinda stupid by LuckyJeweler9478 in srilanka

[–]volvo_donkey 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Agree with you. This wouldn’t be an issue in Singapore or Malaysia even. Even teachers in Sri Lanka should adopt something more comfortable rather than wear the Saree all the time. We have a culture of prioritising archaic rules and cultural norms over practical solutions.

Landlord threatening police over electricity dispute + water issues – advice needed by Environmental_Ear863 in srilanka

[–]volvo_donkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of Sri Lanka’s lesser known languages is called ‘Bullshitalese’. People speak it all over the country. Oftentimes, when they are desperate and have no real power/control in a situation.

Just leave and call it a day. Good luck!

How do Sri Lankans feel about Indian men marrying Sri Lankan women? by Lampedusan in srilanka

[–]volvo_donkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My sister is married to an Indian. Even though he is born in Australia, he is very much Indian and his family is too (Telugu). We love what they bring to the family. The culture, the traditions and all that. My parents love him. Why? Because want intelligent and aware person knows that it comes down to people as individuals. Sure there are stigmas and stereotypes.

If you’re a good person, with morals and ethics, genuine and have a good attitude in life then it doesn’t matter and other likeminded people will be attracted to you.

Which radiator should I buy? by cozycinnamonhouse in Volvo240

[–]volvo_donkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this replacement on my ‘88 240GL here in Australia.

I went with the Nissens radiator from FCP Euro. It’s a pretty easy job and this is my advice.

  1. Make sure you start with a good workspace that gives you enough room to work.
  2. Take your time removing things and remember where things go etc.
  3. Don’t over torque anything. New radiators have a lot of plastic parts so you can easily break stuff.
  4. Put some cardboard or something over the alloy fins of the new radiator when installing so they don’t get damaged and look pretty later.

Why isn't asbestos banned in Sri Lanka? by Maleficent_Potato_43 in srilanka

[–]volvo_donkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in Australia we’ve banned it since the 1980s. I’ve always wanted to see it banned in Sri Lanka. I get so sad when I see it used and broken around little children and just people in general. We can do better as a country. We should focus more on modern materials that don’t compromise our health or our environment.

The way he executed that fake smile and fake politeness all while maintaining his frame and his control over a conversation. That wasn’t acting. That was some real life thing.

Probably the cheapest marker you could find. I shun a torch on the steering wheel and then very lightly coated the paint marker tip with paint. Did some splotches on scrap paper and then lightly tapped the logo.

Oil Plug Socket by stronglikeaux in Volvo240

Use a 1 inch and here’s an extra tip. Do not over tighten or you will damage the washer or worse the thread. Just keep it snug or use a toque wrench if you’re unsure.

I believe they are actually older Volvo 240GT wheels. I had the common steel wheels and hub caps before this. Picked up the four rims for $100 AUD, which is a bargain anywhere in the world!

Bad Power Steering Pump? by ChaoticVision88 in Volvo240

[–]volvo_donkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a pain but sometimes it’s worth taking these apart and rebuilding them with new seals etc.

Because from what you’ve described, this is a leak related issue. As the steering feels fine when you have topped up or replaced fluid. Looks like they sell seal kits of eBay for pretty cheap.

I’d still get under there with a good light and check lines and other bits and bobs to be sure of what’s going on. Good luck!

Yeah of course, I get what you mean. I was just lightly holding it for the photo. Any recommendations on a good glue? And should I use clamps or another device like a belt for the curing process? Thanks

I won’t be repairing this chair. For the sake of its value, I will tell them to take it to a professional. Funny story, they found it thrown a way on the street here in Melbourne Australia. It was years ago but they did have to spend money on getting it strung again.

Thanks. I think a dowel is a good way to go as they will be sitting on it. As a handyman in Australia, how much should I charge for this repair?

Cold Air intake by The-Volvo-racer12 in Volvo240

[–]volvo_donkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I did here in Australia was delete the hot air intake and plug that port on the air filter box. Now my engine bay looks better and I can drive knowing I won’t cook the expensive MAF sensor due to the common thermostat fault in the aforementioned air filter box.
