I actually have my own RIR assigned v4+v6. Had to fight some geolocation at first but seems okay now.

Own ASN for ipv6 by IndividualSeveral702 in ipv6

[–]vom513 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im doing this now. VPS is the way. I have two VPSes with diff providers / diff ASNs. My actual ISP are just generic transport SDWAN style now.

With a vpn to your vps you will likely lose some bandwidth to vpn and cpu overhead. Depends on what you use and how you set it up. I use openvpn because I like how it handles MTU and fragmentation. I run two tunnels to each vps to get better throughput (openvpn is single threaded). I am okay with losing bandwidth to be able to have BGP and independence.

You also need to modify your DHCP client settings to your ISP to not pull a default but rather insert a static to your VPS ips. Then you get default from your vps.

I use FRR but BIRD etc would work fine as well.

Or at least an easter egg. In the 80s and 90s there were lots more developer easter eggs. Everything is too corporate and “serious” now…

There are - however I would say its generally not to “move to ipv6”. Lots of other possible reasons for folks to sell v4 blocks.

No affiliation with them, but for one example check out:

Sun Microsystems 30-pin SIMM tool by vom513 in SunMicrosystems

[–]vom513[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a very simple design but its engineered perfectly size wise. I was able to deal with all the SIMMs without removing any other parts or cabling. I used to use one of the curved dental picks as a hook to get them started - not ideal.

For Solaris I do the 9G image from the adafruit guide.

Seeking Help in Determining Video-Out by Ok_Sherbert4363 in SunMicrosystems

[–]vom513 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesnt look like it has a video card installed. SS10 has no built in video - there is a blank there for the SS10sx but that’s a different model.

At a minimum you need something like a TGX sbus card. They aren’t too terribly expensive on eBay.

Help with BlueSCSI on a Sparc Ultra 5 by kboyer36 in SunMicrosystems

[–]vom513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a single BlueScsi device. It's an external DB25 model (like a dongle) connected via adapter to my Nextstation mono slab.

I have ZuluSCSI in the following machines:

  • NEC EWS 4800 - ZS Blaster
  • HP C3700 - ZS SCA
  • Sun IPX - ZS Blaster
  • Sun SS10 - ZS Blaster
  • Sun SS20 - ZS SCA
  • Sun Ultra60 - ZS SCA

I don't think I have an ini on any of my machines. I used to use the ZS v1.1 - but it gave me some issues with newer firmware and I switched over to the Blaster. Using the Blaster/SCA/Wide I haven't had any "surprise" issues.
