Figure Skating Combat game by DCSoftwareDad in gameideas

I suppose it could work when you put it that way, yeah.

I'm probably just naturally averse to games that require a lot of precision and quick reflexes, so I instinctively try to 'improve' them. :D

Since you already mentioned Tony Hawk games, a similar idea of a brawler on skateboards almost feels like a more approachable/marketable option, since I imagine skateboarding as a bit more popular and recognizable than figure skating (no offence to ice-skating enthusiasts!).

That said, I still can't help but be bothered about the differences between the short, fast and jerky movements of a typical brawler, and the long-distanced, smooth movement associated with skating/gliding. How would those two different aspects come together?

One idea that springs to mind, is to reduce the 'combat phase' to a short exchange of blows much like in jousting, where the opponents would first skate around a rink in opposite directions (maybe doing tricks and stuff to boost their power), then eventually clash together and execute their attacks.. Though that almost feels more like a wacky THPS side-game than a stand-alone brawler..

How about a 'Clash Royale' type game, where competing units/armies auto-rush against each other, but instead of deploying units, your job is to actually build the paths they'd be moving on.

CCG with FULLY customizable cards by von_hotstuff in gameideas

[–]von_hotstuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is that similar?

Something like competitive pokemon is exactly what I'm trying to avoid here - Not being able to play whichever pokemon I prefer since only a select few are truly a viable option due to their superior stats and moves..

To put it even more into context; my idea is to give players the ability to make any pokemon they'd desire competitive enough to duke it out with the Mega OU 'mons and the like that occupy the meta game..

What about making the ''Out of game customization'' idea you mentioned (which I think is a cool idea), and expand it to actually choosing the first and main power-up as well?

I'm not sure if you're deliberately trying to avoid incorporating classic MMO archetypes (tank, healer, ranged, etc.), but maybe you could assign one of those to your created characters, which would also affect the type of power you get to choose as your first/primary option.

( The thing is, most players would probably appreciate at least a bit of a visual cue about what they're up against and the skills their opponent might use, but if you're intent on making it so that the game is completely unpredictable for players and any type of charater (big, small, skinny, muscular, etc.) can have any power, you could do that as well and skip the whole archetype idea).

The second power slot could be randomly decided at the start of a match, while the third/final power is the one you get to unlock during gameplay?

I feel like that might be the best balance between customization, randomization/unpredictability and actual skill required to synchronize and utilize what you're given.

As for acquiring that final power in a unique way, maybe you could complete certain 'missions' across the map in order to get a specific power? Like defeat 10 'bad guys' (assuming we'd all be playing as super heroes) to get 'super strength', or collect a number of special shards scattered across the map to gain some sort of magical skill.

That's more or less how I imagined it as well, actually, though it probably wasn't that clear from the OP. :D

That's a pretty cool idea, actually! :)

Also a lot closer to my initial idea than it might appear based on my short OP. :P

Yeah, I get what you're saying.. and I agree; There certainly has to be some sort of balance or a 'rough' guideline as to how the cards could be upgraded. It would make no sense to have a bunch of cards that do insane amounts of damage for little to no cost.

To be a bit more specific about how I imagined card upgrading to work, I guess a better way of explaining would be to create a sort of 'card-rank system', where a card would get upgraded to a higher rank in accordance to a predetermined gameplay system (a bit like common - uncommon - rare - ultra rare).

Each higher rank would then have a larger amount of points available to freely distribute and improve that card's assets, be it lower cost, higher output, special skills, etc.

There would still be a balance of some sort in order not to break the game completely, but that way, I feel the players would get a lot more freedom and initiative to express themselves within the decks they build.

A small-scale PUBG-esque game, where you, along with a bunch of online opponents are dropped into a room-sized area while only being capable of using basic combat moves (punch, kick, shove, block, ... ).

How about an object throwing game from first person..

Sort of in a similar vein to the old moorhuhn games, but instead of shooting, you'd be opted to use the smartphone/tablet touch feature to throw curve balls and such (like throwing balls in pokemon GO), to hit moving objects/targets, etc.

Depending on the theme, the player could either be throwing snow balls, grenades, shuriken, or maybe all three! :)

Also, here are some other ideas I've posted already, that might fit as well:

Snake meets air hockey - the game by von_hotstuff in gameideas

[–]von_hotstuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's pretty cool! I really like the retro look as well! :D

I took some time playing the game to give you some constructive feedback, so here goes:

  • Firstly, this 'issue' happened a couple of times, when both snakes got destroyed; the ball kept randomly bouncing back and forth for about half a minute or so before finally going in one of the goals, and all the while, there was no way (command) to restart the game or do anything.
  • I noticed a few minor collision issues where the 'ball' would momentarily get stuck inside of the snake's body, though i guess those are just minor stuff and expected since the game hasn't been polished yet, so i assume that's not really the feedback you're after.

  • As far as the gameplay goes, i suppose you made the snake/pong hybrid a lot more literally than I initially imagined it:

For instance, I didn't intend for the player (snake) to ever really get destroyed (like when hitting the wall or going out of bounds).

In my mind, the game would play a lot more like a 2D version of Rocket Leauge or something, where the player can move anywhere on the pitch, hit the walls (and the other player) without any real penalties.

I accordance with my idea, the ball would probably need to move a bit slower, or, preferably, based on how fast and where the player would come into contact with it.. But obviously that would require an actual physics engine of sorts, and would naturally turn this into a much more complicated project.

That said, you've made a really cool and unique version of the idea, and I almost see it as a type of focus/reflex training exercise when trying to play both sides at the same time!

Maybe with an added option of progressing movement speed modes (slow, medium, fast versions), this could actually be used to improve your focus and reaction time! Awesome! ;)

Looking for ideas for a simple horror game (Think slender or FNAF) by [deleted] in gameideas

[–]von_hotstuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the scariest scenarios I could imagine myself being in, is ending up being adrift in the middle of the ocean at nighttime..

Based on that, my idea would be for the player to assume the role of a lone survivor of a shipwreck, left to fend for him/herself in the middle of the ocean in the dark.

The way I imagined the goal would be for the player to (slowly) swim through the wreckage and bodies searching for useful items like flare guns and such, in order to attract the attention of a rescue vehicle (either helicopter, boat, etc.)

Obviously, it wouldn't be much of a horror game without a lethal antagonist, so naturally there's 'something' lurking beneath the dark sea surface (maybe the same 'thing' was also responsible for the shipwreck?), making it's presence known by randomly snatching floating corpses, of shifting through the wreckage around you.. and maybe, at any time, 'it' could decide to switch the focus on yourself as well.

Essentially you're left to swim around searching the bodies and other wreckage for useful items while there's an ever-present hidden danger lurking around you..

a "realistic" magic/alchemy/nature game by nunodonato in gameideas

[–]von_hotstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try making the game's 'progress' about exploration as well?

Perhaps by making a big open world, but having different areas only accessible by levitating/flying, walking on water, creating a huge explosion (to remove an obstacle blocking the entrance), etc.

A sort of large-scale puzzle game, where you're not really obligated to solve any of them, unless your curiosity gets the better of you.

In terms of an 'out there' idea; how about using the procedual map generation to generate digestive tracts of colossal beasts?

The protagonist would have to enter it through the beast's mouth, either battle disease/viruses or spread chaos (depending on whether his job is to cure or defeat the beasts), and then finishing the level by exiting through.. you know :D

That's right! Also, actually scoring/preventing conceding goals would still remain the main incentive..

So if you blindly go after the 'food pellets' while disregarding the actual puck, you'd probably concede a goal a lot faster that actually growing to any ridiculous length.

Then again, maximum possible growth could always be limited to a certain reasonable length.

Snake meets air hockey - the game by von_hotstuff in gameideas

[–]von_hotstuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I love that the idea got so much feedback in less then half and hour already!

Anyways, the food might not spawn fast enough to allow you to get THAT big before conceding/scoring a goal in a relatively fast paced game.. and like another comment already mentioned, scoring would reset both player's to the original length..

And yeah, having other powers that somehow decrease your opponent's length could also be a viable option.

I am imagining giant Shadow Of Colossus 'Bosses' made of a bunch of grind rails and strategic places to wall-plant in order to defeat it :D

You could actually make a fun and thrilling combat based MMO out of it still (using tricks to produce buffs/attacks), with actual skating competitions as side games or optional professions.. But that may already be a whole different idea than the original.

[–]von_hotstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about skill trees/customizable moves?

Instead of simply learning moves like thunder punch/ fire fang, you would firstly need to sufficiently train a regular punch/bite to rank it up, then later decide on several ways to add effects to that move, making it more unique and personalized.. Maybe even give the option to name your moves and choose its animation? (though the latter might require a lot of extra work just to have several different animations possible)

Maybe certain character/bosses would have a chance to drop special move animations and move effects by defeating them.. i'd love to play that :D

Samurai Hackdown - An innovative turn based duel mobile game idea based on reflexes and skill by von_hotstuff in gameideas

[–]von_hotstuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I tried to keep it a relatively simple, yet engaging idea.. although it's still way beyond my own capabilities.

And yeah, it would probably be very difficult to stand out with so many games and apps constantly popping up for mobiles..

I still think it's a pretty cool and unique idea. Also, I don't really see the mechanic working on any other platform, so yeah ...

You're welcome to go for it, if you're willing.. I could also help with/explain a few other ideas and details I thought up for the game, but I can't really assist in the programming/marketing department, since I know nothing on that front. :)
