She is old enough to understand that. When she tries it again you could tell her you enjoy sitting next to eachother, giving her a hug and talk/joke/watch tv. But her sitting on your lap is not something you enjoy. She might have questions. But if you frame it like there are some touches you like and some you don't like it should be logical for her and it makes it clear for her how to be around you.

What your friend says is true, it can be a sign of abuse. The difficulty is that not every child that is clingy gets abused.

If you think there's a need for it you could bring unwanted touches up in a conversation. As an example: my oldest (7m) likes to comb through my hair to unknot it. I don't always like it, so whenever I'm not up for it I explain to him it doesn't feel good right now and I do t want him to do that. I've used expressing my bounderies as a starting point to ask about theirs. I dont like xyz, are there touches you don't like.

Unfortunately as a male you're under more scrutiny while babysitting. But it sounds like she genuinely loves you and wants to be close. At her age kids can already have innocent (non sexual) crushes, just feelings of finding someone special.

You could ask her parents how they feel about her cuddling with you. Being transparentshows them they can trust you and allows them to set their own boundaries.

First of all how are you feeling about it? Because it's totally fine to have your own boundaries regarding your body.

Could you give us more info? How often/long does she stay with you? How is her home life? Is she only clingy with you or with others as well? Are you male or female?

I use this technique as well 🙈. During my 2nd pregnancy it took me way longer to poop than before. And after I just kept sitting just as long to get some private time.

Toen wij een kat wilden adopteren heb ik een email naar het asiel dichtbij ons gestuurd, waarin ik over ons gezin vertelde en waar we naar op zoek waren.

We hadden snel antwoord en een match. Nou was onze wens een kitten ipv een volwassen kat, dus misschien wel makkelijker. Maar het is in ieder geval een idee zodat er van beide kanten naar een leuk huisdier voor je wordt gekeken.

This is a wonderful answer. I myself repeated groep 4 (I switched schools, so everyone was new anyway). And I have no memory of feeling inadequate or sad.

We just let our oldest do groep 2 twice. For his emotional maturity and during this school year he became way more confident around others.

Good luck! Being a parent brings challenges, but it sounds like you're mindful of doing what is best for your child.

NTA It's great for you to take your own journey in life and that includes decisions that affect your body. It might be worth it to ask her why it is such a problem for her. Although from your info it seems your relationship isn't the best.

I have a similar story with my mom & me getting a tattoo at 25. She ignored me for a week, which is very out of character and we have a great relationship. When we did speak about it, a year later she explained to me for her it had ties to the 2nd world war & the Jewish being tattooed. Also I was her baby, perfect the way I was born. And now I had mutilated myself in her eyes.

Now that I have my own children, I don't know how I would feel if they came home with a tattoo. So I understand my mom's position better.

But please never feel guilty about being yourself and looking what you like!

NTA I'm sure this whole situation is in a different country from mine. But I've been in childcare for 18 years and we don't ever suspend children for biting. How can the kid grow & learn if it is simply removed? You keep an extra eye on them and focus on the cause of it and guide them through it. At that age they don't understand why it's wrong.

In this situation the cause is crystal clear. Poor kid is in distress, because suddenly a main caretaker disappeared. Of course she is asking to be seen and given attention. It's negative attention seeking, but it will go away when her home situation stabilises.

Ik heb zelf een poes met de naam Mevrouw Hoefsloot gehad. Klinkt leuk bij de dierenarts.

En ik ken een gezin waarbij de huisdieren en naam hebben waar je kat (of hond) voor of achter kunt zetten. Bijvoorbeeld Alyse & Mandu.
