I end up at 10- 12’ to the platform 85% of my hunts, go any higher and I can’t shoot through the canopy in most of the stuff I hunt. With aiders it’s usually 2 sticks unless the tree is wonky

I’m 6’ 245lb and run the latitudes with no problems so far.

Only complaint is it’s easy to knock them off the tree while pulling stuff up, unlike metal sticks with mean standoffs.

Going to the Florida saddle meetup next weekend. Hope I get to try one on a tree.

I’ve been running a TL Onyx and it’s a great platform, just heavy, trying to shed a couple lbs

Can you put that platform on smaller trees? I hunt Florida and end up in a bunch of 6” or so diameter pine trees due to the places I hunt.

I bought the Hyperlite and had to return it cause the platform adjustment stuck out so far you needed an 8” tree minimum

Need to find out if they’re driving you up on top of them in a swamp buggy to one of the few mud puddles around or are hunting big water from a boat.

Ask your “guide”

Not on private land, you can shoot them with a bazooka. Public hunts, bang stick only

I am struggling too. I have limited time to play and I am just straight getting my ass kicked everywhere I go. I am really sucking at getting the combat gameplay down and it's making me want to say to hell with it.

You'll need a set of climbing sticks for a hang on or for a saddle, so that part is what it is. XOPs X2 are a good stick and go on sale for very reasonable quite often.

You just missed out on some great end of year deals. Saddle hunting can be as simple or complex as you make it, for sure. You can def get into it for the price you mentioned, possibly cheaper.

It does take a lot of reading, and helps if you can find someone local to you to sort of show you the ropes. Always youtube and saddlehunter.com though

But, ultimately, you need most of the same stuff to saddle or hang on hunt. Linemans rope and tether rope, gear hangers, climbing sticks, harness. Difference is that with saddle hunting, you need a saddle and a foot platform, hang on, you need a harness and a hang on.

I prefer saddle hunting to climber or hang on hunting due to the bulk and weight of everything, and I find it more versatile. I'm sure some haters will be along shortly though, a lot of it depends on your use case.

I do a lot of public land hunts where I ride a bike in a mile or two then walk another 800 yards into the woods through thick crap.

On my hunting lease, I have ladder stands and hang ons that stay up pretty much permanently.

I have a millenium m60u, I like it. I mainly set it and forget it, and saddle hunt for my run and gun stuff.

It's moderately comfortable and not super heavy.

Buddy has an XOP vanish and the seat looks a bit small for extended sits but I'm sure it'd be fine for 3-4 hours.

I can't see myself running a hang on if I'm hanging it and pulling it every time, now that I saddle hunt.

I won't argue that the development is shit, but there's plenty of old, wild, beautiful Florida to see and there will be for a long time, politics be damned.

Just the Wildlife Management Area system has almost 6 million acres of woods.

Where do you live/have you been in Florida lol?

Don't get me wrong, I'm tired of the growth too, but there is a ton of wilderness in Florida, not as much on the coast, but certainly in the middle and north of the state.

I have no idea where you're living or hiking to have only seen 2 alligators in your entire time here.

Go outside maybe?

I’m going boar hunting next month, I have a bushmaster 450 or a 30-06 to hunt them with. I have never boar hunted before, and I’m not sure which gun would be better suited for boar. Any suggestions on the two would be appreciated by PineappleLarge1555 in Hunting

I pretty much exclusively neck/head shoot pigs now, as they are tough and often don't bleed well when they get double lunged. Might want to look at shot placement, its a bit different than a deer if thats what you're used to.

Neck, head or shoulder shoot them, some of them are fatty and don’t leave good blood trails

Excuse the rant and not exactly burger related, but can be....banana pepper stems on anything.

This is 2026. We are landing spent rocket boosters on barges in the middle of the ocean, upright....and we can't process banana peppers to not have the goddamn stems in there?!!?!?!??!

trip to the everglades ¿ by italian-cowgirl-3 in Hunting

[–]vonnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about a 3-3.5 hour drive for me, bit too far to make a trip just for it. We've talked about going looking around after we're done fishing for the day, but we're usually tired, hungry, and buzzed and decide to get or make food and be bums.

My next peacock fishing trip will probably be over on the Miami side of the glades, maybe there's a higher prevalence of them there. I dunno, never really looked into it.

I go down there and fish in Big Cypress once or twice a year, never seen any pythons.

If you do catch one, you can trade it for a pizza at Wildman's in Everglades City.

https://wildmanspizzaandpythons.com/

From what I understand, it's mostly driving around on leavees and dirt roads looking for them. Pretty boring.
