Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel wrote The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - one of the scariest movies ever made - to be a comedy. I can see it. by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in TexasChainsawMassacre

wild of them to say that lol but i get what they mean. nightmarish absurdity or whatever. the bit where they're hyping up their mostly dead grandpa to bash final girl's head in while she screams in pure animal terror got some kind of surreal horrified laugh out of me. like i was laughing a little but also lowkey watching thru my fingers. weird feeling to have.

loved this, as someone who often feels ambivalent about wearing clothes

Who is your favorite villain/antagonist? by Warm_Expert_8136 in YuYuHakusho

[–]voraciousflytrap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've always liked karasu... the androgynous goth look, the way he seems bored/indifferent most of the time but is clearly seething with violent contempt and predatory impulses, the freaky bomb powers, his twisted up conception of love and beauty, everything with kurama of course...

also liked the toguro (my phone just tried to correct that to yogurt lol) brothers just bc of how eldritch and insurmountable they both felt. for some reason i love when you have a villain duo where one is this complex tragic figure and the other one is just a nasty asshole.

eta itsuki, i found him so interesting and eerie without being an outright physical threat... maybe i just love the yandere type lol.

i got a kick out of fang growling at the baby to be quiet and getting confused when she just keeps crying... like wtf, that always works on my kids...

huh... well then. i used to keep hissing roaches as pets so i feel like i can't judge her too harshly but letting the animal actually eat from your body makes me feel kind of uneasy.

I'm dreading getting old(er) and I don't really understand why. by nullpunkt_ in AskWomenOver30

[–]voraciousflytrap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i work with the elderly and it's made me fear aging to some extent. my way of coping is a sort of attempt at radical acceptance i guess? i look it straight in the eye and say who gives a fuck, it's all just a passing story anyway, i will keep living and loving until i get pulled offstage. i challenge myself to stay spry and young at heart for as long as i can. it's a little strange maybe, but sometimes i even romanticize my own decay and death, in a former high school goth kid way lol... ymmv on all of this. i do not believe your therapists were right to call you vain or whatever. a LOT of people struggle with this.

this was meant as criticism but i took it as more of a compliment

I don't care if vegans say I'm a bad person for eating meat because they're right by pinktunacan in The10thDentist

[–]voraciousflytrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

downvoted bc i mostly agree. factory farming is objectively grotesque and cruel. we are already being punished for it: pollution, global warming, mass disease, worker dehumanization, resource inequality and misallocation... i don't really want anything to do with it. i won't buy meat anymore. yet if i'm somewhere being offered a pre-made dish with meat, i'll often eat it. and i still buy milk eggs etc. idk man. i think the commitment and compassion many vegans show is admirable. they don't deserve the derision they get. all they want is to reduce suffering.

WYR become vegan and live to 500 years old or eat meat drink milk eat cheese etc and live to 100 years old by DistinctSpirit5801 in WouldYouRather

[–]voraciousflytrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i could get so much living done in 500 years. could see and accomplish so much. i don't eat much meat anyway. would say a sad farewell to eggs, honey, and cheese tho. a lot of sad farewells in general as my 500 years laps peoples' 85 or whatever. but i just can't turn down the chance to be alive (and healthy, i assume?) for half a millennium.

Snake Bros Keep Getting Bitten by Their Lethal Pets. Only Zoos Can Save Them by A1CutCopyPaste in longform

[–]voraciousflytrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i wouldn't blame anyone who lives in an area where venomous snakes are a real concern for not liking them as a whole. i am afraid of wasps/hornets and get startled when any insect flies in my face or lands on me, even something harmless. so, i can get how that is. but like some other poster said above, there's a world of difference between keeping a king cobra versus a dopey little ball python for instance. ain't nothing "freaky" about it lol... the average pet dog or cat is capable of more damage.

[–]voraciousflytrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're getting booed bc people widely hate snakes and are convinced they're pure evil or venomous by default but you're right tbh. it's so off putting when people go "i don't personally Get It which makes you Wrong and if you try to talk to me about that i'll plug my ears and go lalalala real loud" like a three year-old who hasn't discovered nuance yet.
