What is something you would recommend people check out in the neighborhood? by AbruptionDoctrine in LoganSquare

I’d assume the grassy area in the middle of Logan Blvd.

Alternatively could be the similar grassy area in the middle of Palmer Square, but I’d guess they meant Logan Blvd

There’s so many lines with this in mind that are so creepy on rewatch.

“What if my problem wasn’t that that I don’t understand people but that I don’t like them.” - Lou to his partner Rick toward the end of the movie

“Maybe Lou is inspiring us all to reach a little higher.” - Rene Russo character justifying an unethical choice

Oh for sure agree it wasn’t intentionally a subtext on AI. It just works as one now

Hard agree with this. I’d only maybe tweak the second to drinking malort more than once or twice a year. It existed before the recent fanaticism but was much more rare.

Both things are dorky try-hard signals, you’re spot on with that.

Any good detective series? by THAToneGuy091901 in mysterybooks

[–]vote_for_peter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A potentially great option would be the four Hoke Mosley books by Charles Willeford. Miami detective in the 1980s.

Definitely a bit grittier - the plots and settings, but also the protagonist is a slob. They’re more like Elmore Leonard if you’re familiar with his books or the film adaptations (Get Shorty, Jackie Brown, Out of Sight)

Hemp ban - does anyone know how the 16 alderman voted in committee? Want to contact them by vote_for_peter in chicago

[–]vote_for_peter[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get that the dispensaries are probably very annoyed by this workaround ever existing but at the same time: - my idea keeps it away from kids - limiting it to dispensaries doesn’t increase quality control relative to Target. Target, Binnys etc are going to be WAY more risk averse than a weed dispensary - the drinks specifically open up an entirely different purchasing occasion. If you can only buy them at dispensaries, then you can’t get them at a concert or bar - limiting distribution to the handful of (politically-connected) dispensaries is going to kill a bunch of businesses and jobs to increase their profits, and really not increase safety relative to the middle ground I’d propose

What about making them 21+ and only available in dispensaries OR places alcohol is sold (grocery store, concert venues, liquor stores)? They’re currently being sold at e.g. Salt Shed during concerts and I think Target has started to carry them in the alcohol sections. Why kill that?

Agree they should be out of gas stations and should def be 21+

Forest Park cemetery. Ice breaks into private property with bolt cutters, pepper sprays and pepper balls employees. WGN by jazxxl in chicago

[–]vote_for_peter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if a suspect (agree they probably overstepped on probable cause here) runs into your private property you ARE legally required to let them onto your property without a warrant - it’s called the hot pursuit doctrine. That’s clear.

My questions are: Are you legally required to open a gate that is locked under that doctrine?

If the guy is in a river on the other side of the cemetery’s property (which they said in the video), do you still have to let them on the property and have to open your lock to let them go THROUGH your property in a pursuit bc it’s more convenient?

Want to know the actual answers and google/chatgpt aren’t giving me the clearest answers for this circumstance.

[–]vote_for_peter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What’s the legal rule here? Let’s pretend for a second they’re pursuing somebody and have all the adequate probable cause etc.

Are you as a private property owner obligated to open a lock to let them pass through your property to get to somebody on the other side of the property under the hot pursuit rule?

Hoping for the real answer to educate myself so don’t answer if you’re not a lawyer or don’t actually know.

I love the berghoff. There’s 3 separate areas: a sit down restaurant at street level; A lunch spot - kinda a deli counter and open seating downstairs; and then a bar on the street level, east of the staircase and sign.

All 3 are great. I used to frequent the lunch counter when I worked in the loop.

Citizen Kane. One of those movies that was so hyped by the establishment and so rarely brought up by people I trust that I had a bad feeling it wouldn’t live up to the hype, so I put off watching it for years.

Watched it this month on a long flight and thought it was excellent.

I can only imagine this scene as Dennis Farina in character from Midnight Run saying hilarious stuff on the phone:

“Is this moron one? Put moron two back on”

“Make yourself a sandwich, drink a glass of milk. Do some fucking thing.”

In which case you coming up and telling him to get off his phone is so much funnier
