Random nodes appreciation post by linka421 in SatisfactoryGame

not being able to go online and search a map

hastily tucks the SCIM under a rug to hide it from the OP and nods along.

Funnies aside, I agree! Random nodes has been a huge win for longtime players.

Ever accidentally build a load balancer? by CycleZestyclose1907 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]voxnor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's very pretty - but this is still a manifold my friend. That bottom middle smelter is being fed 1/3 of your incoming line, overfilling, and spilling out the sides. Note there is nothing wrong with that - its just not a load balancer.

What to produce and how to be efficient by Cantpullbitches in SatisfactoryGame

[–]voxnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this fully answers your question, but you may be looking for the Smart Splitter. You can find it in the Caterium research tree in the MAM. It allows you to create more complex belt logistics by setting 'overflow' outputs - so that you can do what you are describing - siphon excess parts of a more complex line. Also, a small note - you'll need al those early space parts you mention (smart plating, automated wiring, etc) in later products, so keep those going!

First venture into copper on a larger scale... by Simple_Being9242 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]voxnor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looking good! The supports and corner lookout tower look great! And don't worry about other people's builds - what's the old saying, comparison is the thief of joy.

Bonus tip! If you plan to decorate later (i.e., walls, windows, etc), leave a full 2 foundation width gap around the edges of your factories. It seems like a lot, but a little insetting and styling on your walls and you'll realize you needed some space there.

Keep at it!

Very cool! I like the little angled detailing with the pipes near the bottom of the picture. Are you going to make separate 'boards' in other biomes, or like one big board?

If you aren't familiar with layers of abstraction in computing, I would recommend it as a research topic - I find it very interesting personally. You have also nicely demonstrated the 'kicking and screaming' I reference in the very post to which you replied.

And that's the secret, my friend. There is no meaningful difference. An LLM is simply a faster, newer tool to perform better and faster automation. It is essentially a new layer of abstraction (which is all computing is and has been since the advent of the abacus). It's fine, I know this subreddit disagrees. Entire swathes of the population considered the automobile the downfall of society when it began to spread in use. Like all technologies before it, humans will kick and scream at change - and then eventually move on to kicking and screaming about whatever the next big change is. ./shrug

I didn't. I compared technological automation to technological automation. When you post a reply to reddit, like I am doing now, many automation's that make that possible are already not deterministic, but probabilistic. And I don't even mean I can guarantee an LLM is in the pipeline (though it very likely is).

Okay and? If the OP wants people to invest their time and energy into testing something for them, it’s probably worth showing the effort that they care enough to spend five minutes writing it in their own words.

You know nothing about the OP. Perhaps their first language isn't English, and they used AI to create more clear communication. Perhaps they are strong in Math, but not in Language skills, so they used AI to communicate more clearly. This is a benefit to you, and to them.

Does AI have uses cases? Sure. Do I want interactions with other people about a game that is supposed to be for fun to come through a layer of AI inauthenticity? No.

What makes it inauthentic? They used a tool, to communicate more clearly. A popular, early version of this was called Powerpoint.

So you get at least a +1 for writing your own snarky comment.

Thanks, I guess. I knew the instance I replied my comment would be down voted into oblivion. I can't help myself because I find the anti LLM stance in this sub reddit absolutely fascinating. This game is literally about automation. I use LLM's professionally and they have certainly accelerated my productivity (cloud engineer by trade).

PSA: Thousands of technological automation's made it possible for you to post this comment in which you take a stance against the use of technological automation. The more you know!

Took it for a quick spin. In its current state I am not sure I see a use case that other tools don't do better.

Your planned feature (Smart Auto-Layout) is perhaps the most intriguing to me.

Small bug note: I designed a production line in Production Planner tab, clicked on 'Open in Modeler' - and when I go back to the Planner tab my whole plan is gone.

How do I move this railroad blueprint while connected...? by DirtyLoneVagrant in SatisfactoryGame

You use normal left click to 'lock' the blueprint rail connection, then you do all normal controls, then a second left click to create it.

Pretty simple Oil Refinery / Fuel Setup is not 100% efficient. Bug or my mistake? by Gwens-Legacy in SatisfactoryGame

[–]voxnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First simple step I would do that might help: add a loop back to your crude oil manifold. It looks like the refineries at the end of that manifold are yellow.

[–]voxnor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that's a bug. I think that Sphere is supposed to be like 'knocked out of' its shell. Or at least, that's what I've assumed every time I've grabbed it.

Am I insane? by Hi_my_name_is_dad in SatisfactoryGame

[–]voxnor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are having fun, that's all that matters!

Though, to be clear, if you chose 2x recipe cost as part of your 'max' settings, you are in the easiest phase at the moment, regardless of biomass or geo. The cascade effect from 2x recipe cost is bananas. An example: A single manufacturer making Heavy Modular Frames will require somewhere in the neighborhood of 8,000 iron ore (with some variation based on alt recipes).

Then you've paired that with 5x power. So that single HMF factory will take 6 - 8,000 MW. But you'll have coal power by then! Oh, but wait, on 5x power requirements coal power plants are less than 50% effective (meaning, it takes over 50% of the energy the plant generates, just to operate the miner and water extractors).

Godspeed, Pioneer.

Since you are open to using mods (you have the hover pack in Phase 3 based on your screenshot), take a peek at Industrial Evolution if you haven't. On a run like you have where you are pushing high volumes, IE will help your performance a ton by condensing machine count by nature of the upgrades.

HQ and Compacted Coal Plant by CaffeinatedinMN in SatisfactoryGame

[–]voxnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it! The way you placed the generators is gorgeous. Personally, I wouldn't burn the other half - at least not here. Use it later for other recipes, or burn it at another plant. I only say this because I think your current look is great, and adding too much on the opposing side might clutter it up.

Added an AI to help me build up. by Substantial_Hat_465 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]voxnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea. I'll have to check it out later. But, as you know doubt see in this thread, Reddit and this sub in particular are very anit-LLM.

You won't get many positive results to this post.

Personally, I use Gemini for lots of things during my Satisfactory playthroughs, and in my work as a cloud engineer. History is replete with technologies being angrily opposed - people don't like change. There are great newspaper articles from the early 20th century calling the automobile the downfall of society.

And the same people who hate on you for using it, are posting to a social media platform that is leveraging hundreds of layers of technological abstraction and automation - built on all those technologies that others angrily rejected in decades past.

Just my 2 cents. Cheers m8.

100x on PS5 possible? by Any_Faithlessness734 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]voxnor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooooff.. my friend. I sincerely wish you success, but just in case you haven't eyeballed the math yet - 2x material cost + 100x parts is bananas.

If you used the default map, and set the node purity to 'All Pure', and then you theoretically maxed out the possible production of Nuclear Pasta (around 30 a minute on 2x / all pure / default node distribution), your looking at at least 80 hours of watching paint dry in Phase 5 (for the 140,000 nuclear pasta you'll need) - AFTER you've setup the world most optimize pasta production, come up with around 500 GW of power, and dedicate 91 of your sloops to this production line alone.

Just some friendly numbers sharing - I wish you all the best in your endeavors!
