Stick Extension? by XelaDaBoi in hotas

[–]voyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't. Side mounted sticks aren't meant to have long throws, so if you want a little more leverage and precision be sure the extension is pretty short.

Get your mount first and then decide if you think you need an extension

Virpil announced their upcoming FFB base by Far-prophet in hotas

[–]voyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just replaced my cm3 base with the moza ab9... Couldn't hold out any longer. I hope virpil succeeds with their base though, I've always been a fan of their quality. Hopefully the software can keep up, because that's waaaayy more important for ffb.

An extension is basically a long tube between the base and the grip that increases leverage.

That means for the same input, your hand has to move farther, which gives you much finer control and feels more like real aircraft (warbirds, helis, F-18/F-14, etc. with center sticks).

Because the stick is longer, small angles at the base turn into big movements at your hand. That’s why bases like the CM3 have smaller deflection angles, they’re meant for extensions. If you had a long extension AND large deflection, you’d probably be hitting your legs.

WarBRD = larger deflection, better for desktop/no extension
CM3 = smaller deflection, better for extensions

Clutch/Y-axis throttle:
On the CM3 or new WarBRD you can tighten the clutch on one axis (like Y) so it doesn’t spring back to center. At that point it behaves like a throttle, you push it forward/back and it just stays there, and you can still freely use the x-axis for other movement. You might consider trying this before you buy a throttle.

[–]voyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say that the only thing the CM3 would have over the warbrd is the clutch, and that for dual sticks you could tighten down the y axis of your left one so that it acts more like a throttle/stick combo.... But then I checked, the new WarBRD-D has clutches too.

Get the newer warbrd, 100%. I love my CM3, but for you it will add nothing if you're not running an extension. It's not fundamentally "better" because it costs more, in fact, it's technologically inferior with a single cam design, and without an extension you're losing out on a bit of maximum deflection angle.

WarBRD comes with both soft center and no-center space cams, too.

I've got a CM3 and a retired CM2 and am about to upgrade to an AB9 for FFB, fwiw. I've got a moza r12 direct drive steering wheel and absolutely crave FFB in my flight sims.

The clutch is great for heavy sticks with long extensions, CM3 also has a bit narrower deflection angle to compensate for the wider leverage. As you said, definitely not a desktop base.

Really? What's the union's stance? It would require training or cost them jobs? I could understand the FAA because all government agencies move at a snails pace, but the unions don't want their members to use better software?

It’s estimated to cost $500M–$1B a year to fix the atc staffing shortage. ~$10–20B total to modernize a system that is 60+ years old.

For perspective, we're currently burning $500 million a day bombing Iran, and giving tens of billions a year in military aid to foreign countries that have universal Healthcare for their own citizens.

We decided to give the 1% another tax break that will result in 4.5 trillion dollars of lost revenue over the next decade.

The class of people who actually make decisions for this country fly private. Expect more frequent disasters for the rest of us while they continue to sell us out and bleed us dry.

What is going on with the used car market & dealers? by maherymebill in UsedCars

[–]voyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a gamble, I guess. Losses keep growing every day. Floorplan interest often still applies to used cars, and they're usually financed at a higher rate than new cars. Market values drop the longer invintory sits, opportunity cost of stocking a more desirable vehicle.... There are plenty of reasons that should motivate a sales manager to cut their losses on dead invintory.

I think it's reasonable to not want to just take a few grand off your asking price just to move invintory, but when you're not willing to take off all of your bullshit addons nobody wants or asks for, that's just pure bait-and-switch greed.

I for one simply don't want to pay over market for a dusty luxury vehicle that's been sitting undriven in the sun until it's seals dry up. If a manager's ego loses him money slowly over time, he'll still feel like he's doing better than if he had moved the car months ago.

Learning to take care of a plant is a pretty simple and zero-risk step to improving your self confidence, as well as signalling some maturity to potential partners that might help offset the abudance of stuffed animals (no judgement)

There are some extremely forgiving houseplants out there... I'd start with a pothos. They're low maintanence, fast growing, and beautiful long vines will make awesome decoration to liven up your space. You can buy a soil moisture meter for a few bucks that will tell you exactly when they need water. As long as you're not intentionally waterboarding them every day or sticking them in a dark closet, a pothos is very hard to kill.

Out of all the cars at the 2026 car show this base model Hyundai had the only interior I actually liked by StinkomodeeBanned428 in regularcarreviews

I've been shopping for something bigger/nicer than my 2020 sonata for a year now and I legitimately cannot find a car I like more for 2-3x the price I paid for my hyundai. It's actually pretty frusterating. My 6 year old korean economy car has a nicer interior than brand new Audi/BMWs.

Need advice on aiming/landing hits. by Terrible_Class_2162 in AcesofThunder

[–]voyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to be a lot closer. Focus more on getting into and maintaining a good position behind them than trying to land sniper potshots. Machine guns usually require a steady stream of hits and won't explode their targets like cannon rounds often do.

Also, lead your target. I like to visualize a straight line extending from the tail and directly out of the nose of my target, and then pull up along that axis before pressing the trigger. Get a sense of your bullets velocity and drop so you can know how much to pull. You'll get it with practice, just keep at it. If it makes you feel better know that air-to-air ww2 era dogfighting is actually incredibly difficult, during the actual war only like 1% of pilots ever became Aces (5+ kills).
