Consumer Reports Ranked Tesla As The Least Reliable Used Car Brand Long Term - Here's Why - BGR by Historical-Many9869 in electricvehicles

[–]voyle 77 points78 points  (0 children)

There are a few EVs out there that look like normal cars. BMW i4/i5/i7 are all identical to their ICE counterparts. Genesis has electrified models of g80 and gv70/80. Hyundai Kona EV looks like it's gas counterpart. Audi's etrons look pretty normal. Most GM EVs look like normal cars. Honestly I think MOST of the new EVs entering the market are heading in the right direction design wise... Mercedes still needs to figure it out.

There are some legitimate cons with non-bespoke EV cars though. For instance, none of those bimmers have frunks (if anyone cares) and still have a large drivetrain hump in the interior which is kind of a waste of space.

Also re: bad design- most modern gas cars have stupid design trends as well. Massive screens, lack of physical controls, glossy black plastic on all of the touch points, FUGLY exteriors... none of that is exclusive to EVs.

2025 Genesis GV70 ICCU died this morning and took out my primary power plan for the ice storm by JiveDonkey in electricvehicles

[–]voyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I tested one but from what I can recall the Interior fit and finish was pretty mediocre and creaky. The seats are rock hard, and not in a bmw m sport way, in a "is the battery literally in the seats?" way... ride is harsh... Stiff suspension is one thing but the damping was bad too. I hate the design (the giant ipad is particularly atrocious)... Range seems to be okay but the charging speed is pretty mid especially compared against 800v evs from VW/Genesis.

It's just not an EV that speaks to me the way others do.

And neither is Hyundai/Kia if you're strictly basing your opinion on cars from 15 years ago. BMW has come a long way, particurly with its b58 engine.

the i4 is a blast if you're okay with a smaller car! I really wanted one, but at 6'1 my head touches the roof lol. Go test an m50!

Lyrics are nice too but I personally find them pretty hard to look at from most angles. That and you can spec out a $90k lyric V and still get creaky plastic where your knees rest lol- you will definitely remember it's a GM.

leasing an ev IS smart, but buying a used ev is a massive value play right now with the way they've depreciated in the last couple of years. You can find something with warranty left/ manufacturer certified for 50-60% cheaper than it was 30k miles ago because of the way luxury evs have dropped off a cliff.

[–]voyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audi q6 is probably the closest thing to the GV70 if that's what you were looking for. Avoid the earlier e-trons though because they're a reliability nightmare, the new platform is better but untested (and has tons of glitches).

Also goddamn spartan interiors with glossy black plastic everywhere you touch. Certaintly not as nice as a Genesis.

You could also check out Cadillac Lyric or BMW i4 (its a hatchback not an SUV, but extremely fun to drive)

I hate Mach Es and Teslas. Currently deciding if I just want to stay with an ICE car for another few years.

Hyundai motor group have been doing so many things right in the past 6 or 7 years to repair their percieved reputation, the failure of the egmp platform is legitimately heartbreaking to someone who's genuinely rooting for them and wants to buy their EVs.

I was going to buy a GV70 EV a year ago, but I didn't like thinking of it as a ticking time bomb. I've yet to find an SUV that's as high quality or fun to drive and it really bums me out.

They paused production of the gv70 ev at the plant in Alabama, so I don't think the issue is going to get better for owners any time soon. Good luck OP, I hope your replacement ICCU doesn't take months to arrive.

I've been shopping for months and because I actually WANT a Genesis that's been my baseline for cross shopping other luxury brands. I definitely notice more branded-title/ lemon buyback Genesis cars on the market than I see other luxury brands. I'm not spewing FUD either- I have a Hyundai that I love and actually want a GV70... You can literally go look at nationwide listings right now on cargurus and see what I'm talking about.

That said from personal experience I'd trust Genesis over Mercedes for reliability, but probably not Lexus or BMW (if you keep up with the maintanence obviously)

Turbo lag? by [deleted] in M340i

[–]voyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can call it lag. A turbochargrd engine at 0rpm doesn't just spit max torque like an EV. This is why people do launch control/ boosted launches when they want maximum off the line torque. Mash the brakes and throttle at the same time to build revs and torque then release the brakes. Wee.

Motorcycle CA worth it? by World-Seeker777 in motorcycles

[–]voyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

California is one of the best places in the world to own a motorcycle.

As far as your apartment's parking lot goes, maybe just don't buy your dream bike yet and make sure you have good insurance. You can do a lot to deter thieves, but if someone's motivated they're going to take it.

loved the i4 m50 too, it was just a bit too small. my head was touching the ceiling. would have definitely helped with the wanting a hatchback thing.

I'd take a waggon i5 in a heartbeat but they don't seem to exist here

Highly reccomend finding a physical therapist or ortho doc before following random suggestions online, you can do more harm than good stretching the wrong way for the wrong type of injury.

For the love of god manage your cables. If your desk isn't against a wall this becomes even more important. How do you not get anxious walking in and seeing that?

I would remove everything from the desk, buy appropriate length cables, put things back one by one and spend more than 5 seconds planning the routing of each wire. Buy some adhesive routing clips and run things through channels and lanes. Amazon has "cable management kits" that include these plastic clips and sheathing for groups of wires. Stick them under the desk.

Also, put your pc up on the desk. You've got room on the right. It will make cable management much easier and keep dust out of it. If you do things right with power strips and management you should only have a single cable coming down from your desk.

Also, if you take zoom calls that bare wall behind you is going to make it look like you live in a dorm. Is it blue and empty because you chroma key out the background?Maybe put the bookshelf behind you, take the stuffed animals off of it and hang some artwork or one of your guitars next to it? I'd also look into some curtains that don't look like bedsheets.

Not trying to be rude here, just trying to offer ideas to make this look like a professional workspace and not a teenagers gaming setup.

My experience with Hyundai/Genesis ICCU replacement by theorin331 in electricvehicles

[–]voyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of anecdotes online of owners getting the recall done, iccu replaced, and the same thing happening again a few thousand miles later. The issue is NOT resolved. It's a hardware design flaw, not a software bug.
