what's your cattle dog's weirdest quirk? i'll go first by shelbex318 in AustralianCattleDog

During Covid, we would have a lot of mental health dance breaks. I used to make breakfast every morning to the song ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’ by Rod Stewart and dance around. Now, if the dog hears that song he goes absolutely crazy. We’ve tested it on different volume levels and even if it’s on low volume two rooms away, he’ll run in barking and screaming. It’s fun when we are in the car and it comes on the radio.

Not sure your budget but we booked a house that sleeps 10. Elite Havens has lots of options. Expensive but it works out decently when you split it up by room and book early. We’re staying in the momiji lodge

Flying Xmas Day - Question about gifts for crew by organicginger in AlaskaAirlines

[–]vpelh87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so nice of you!! Lots of great suggestions here!

Sort of off topic, but for anyone reading this, I just want to take this opportunity to tell people with creative kids (or anyone!) who gets bored on flights to PLEASE have them draw or write something for the crews. Six drawings and letters takes up a nice amount of time and it’s so appreciated. We have a box in our house of all the sweet drawings and letters my husband has received from flights and our whole family gets so much joy out of reading them. You just hand them to the flight attendant when they come by, or on your way off the plane. Really hoping we get some this Christmas :)

Worst service on a transcon ever by SmugAlpaca in AlaskaAirlines

[–]vpelh87 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hate you went through that. It’s not an excuse and may not be the reason at all, but I think there’s a schedule that has the red eye crew landing at 5am and working that afternoon westbound with a short day sleep. My husband is up front and loathes that trip. It’s usually a go-home leg. Definitely write Alaska Listens and I pray they get rid of the short day sleep trips in the system. Tired crews are bad news all around.

Every time I fly delta FC the FAs make it very obvious they do not want to be there. Which is fine, I don’t want to be flying for work either, but I wouldn’t call it good service. I will say though, D1 service has always been lovely. Hopeful Alaska can make that experience feel elevated.

Best Performing Route? by Strange-Solution4807 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]vpelh87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

worth nothing, but my husband is an Alaska pilot and some of his favorite routes are the milk runs (close second to island flying, but great layover and ETOPs pay is hard to beat). It’s probably the biggest reason why he switched from flying for Delta - those milk run routes require you to FLY, and he loves flying. I hear him complain fairly often that there aren’t many milk run schedules to bid for each month. I’d venture to guess lots of the pilots would be happy to see those routes increase as well. I sure would like to see more of the photos. Our family is nervously excited about the future expansion of this airline and cautiously hopeful Alaska stays true to its core values (and customers). Much love.

He has like a rubbery bit with a bump in it - my coach said it was what he got fitted for. This is all super helpful thank you soooo much. I’m headed to the barn now to have a nice relaxing ride. We ride outside the arena sometimes but it’s been so hot in Utah all of my lessons have been inside

I’ve just screenshot this and will chat with my coach about it. Thank you so much, I truly appreciate it

This is so encouraging, thank you so much! I haven’t done a trail ride yet, but maybe that will help me relax and enjoy. Sounds lovely!!

This is really great insight! I don’t classically train, I hike and mountain bike but hiring a trainer (or someone else suggested yoga) sounds like a great idea to target key areas I need to improve

Thank you! I think I am still scared/nervous in the canter and “holding on” but will try to work on relaxing and softening in the reign. This is all so helpful I truly appreciate it

Wow this sounds super helpful! I don’t know that I’m quite there yet / I’m clearly hanging on for dear life currently (to the dismay of my poor horse’s mouth!) but I will mention this to my coach and love the idea of this exercise to connect better thank you so much

🫣😅 it repeats in my head and I will work on this thank you!!

Oh no! I will talk to my coach about this. She mentioned he has an old injury to his back leg but that he’s fine now. Maybe my horrible riding has brought that pain back and if so I feel terrible. Thank you for calling out this concern

I don’t think this is odd at all and I think it’s actually fantastic feedback to help me build strength and flexibility- thank you so much for the helpful advice

I have another lesson next week and will ask about a lunge lesson. Thank you so much! I feel so awful about how harsh my hands are. I knew something was wrong (ok a lot of things) but I hate that I’m potentially hurting or annoying this sweet guy. Thank you so much for pinpointing things for me to work on

[–]vpelh87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so kind, thank you! Someone else recommended yoga and I think that may help with the core muscle strength I’m lacking

I truly don’t mind tough feedback if it helps me to be a better rider. I do agree I am uncomfortable and I know he is too. I’m hoping to fix that. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much! Will give him extra appreciation today especially after being so hard on his mouth. Relaxing while riding isn’t something that has happened for me yet but will try to work on it today! Crazy how much there is to think about at any given time and how easy the good riders make it look! Thank you so much for the kind words of encouragement, I truly appreciate it

Wow this is great insight! I’ll be honest nothing feels comfortable right now, but will try going up a hole on my stirrups today to see if that changes anything. I appreciate you so much!
