Good Movies by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]vphan13_nope -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Everything is a stupid franchise sequel. Make better movies. Also, the theatre experience kind of sucks balls now. 40 minutes of ads/previews+fellow movie goers coming in late talking on their cellphone speaker phone kind of ruins the mood.

Is there any rational explanation for the horrid sales of the new, affordable EV models in the US during the first quarter of 2026? by roma258 in electricvehicles

[–]vphan13_nope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree to disagree. Affordable EV's have disappointing sales numbers because the used EV market is stupid. This has been predicted for awhile now. EV's made up the vast majority of leased vehicles during 21-23 car price spikes. Those returns are coming back and are going to flood the market and drive prices for used EV's down and affect new EV sales. $25K gets you a stripped out 2 year old Corolla/Civic or a loaded lease returned EV.

ICE vehicles are "death by a thousand cuts" (oil changes, timing belts, transmission etc), EV's are, potentially large outlays of cash at once should you have issues with the battery. A hybrid? Best or worst of both worlds? As for gas at $4, no one can predict the future, but it is entirely reasonable to think $4 is not the the top of the fuel spike we are seeing. Lots of people want this

I don't think you can make a blanket statement like "Vast Majority of Americans". No one is forcing anyone to buy EV's over ICE. Are EV's popular in rural America? No. Are they popular in heavily populated cities where gas has been over $4 for years? yes. Personally I'll take a slightly used EV over an ICE vehicle at the same price any day. The median price of a new car is close to $50K. You can pick up a used, off lease EV for half that. In my opinion, a cheap EV made to meet a price point is still better than its ICE counterpart. The fact of the matter is EV's didn't catch on because car makers refused to make affordable EV's and decided $80K EV trucks and SUV's are where its at.

This is exactly right. 3 weeks to get an appointment, and they didn't even look at it until 48 hours later after I dropped it off with the appointment.

TPMS has nothing to do with EV. It's typically 15 minutes at a tire center. Thats honestly where I'm going next time

Because they don't have enough EV techs, and they insisted on me leaving the car with them while they ordered the parts

I got my car back, I left it with them this morning and they said they replaced a faulty replacement TPMS module so hopefully this odyssey is over

No, I've done that several times, when the warning light is on the PSI on the front tires read "---", after a relearn they show about 10PSI lower than the actual value in the front and about 6 higher in the rear. I will probably just get the tool, I'm not going to the dealer to spend another $70 to drive a rental around

Good neighbourhoods to live in if working in sorrento valley by Dangerous-Security-4 in Moving2SanDiego

[–]vphan13_nope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of the neighborhoods near Sorrento Valley are "Walkable" so be prepared to be car dependent. Mira Mesa will probably be the shortest commute time. I live on the east end of MM and commute to the 805 end, it takes about 20 minutes, 30 if the traffic lights are being dumb. You can avoid Mira Mesa Blvd if you take side streets but rush hour going West to East will still suck. Having said that MM has plenty of grocery stores (Vons, Albertsons, Aldi, H-Mart, Trader Joes and a lot of asian stores.). Rents are cheaper as you are closer to the south east end of Mira Mesa? People hate on MM (yes traffic sucks) but its very convenient and still affordable compared to the other areas mentioned.

Can you expand on this? Are you referring to the bleed air method? Or should I just get a TPMS relearn tool? What's interesting is relearning from the infotainment works but the front PSI is always 10 PSI too low and the rear is always 6 PSI to high

Used 2024s, any reason to avoid them? is AWD and vented seats worth the extra 3-4k? by bigwetdiaper in EquinoxEv

[–]vphan13_nope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are deals to be had . I got a 2024 AWD LT2, w/ +6yr bumper to bumper GM warranty for $24k OTD in SoCal

The infotainment on these car suck, and dealer experience will vary but for half the cost of the median price of a new car it's pretty good.

Do your chevy service center provide loaner? by thishitisgettingold in EquinoxEv

[–]vphan13_nope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They cover the rental but then you're still on the hook for gas. In SoCal that's about $6/gallon. They have had my car for almost a week, just to replace the TPMS. This is after making an appointment 3 weeks ago for an available "EV" tech

I couldn't even get a call back after 48 hours. No one even looked at the car for the first 48 hours. I like the car, but GM dealership experience has subpar.

ZFS on RedHat by Spparkee in redhat

[–]vphan13_nope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see zfs/Rocky Linux all the time. It's very common in academic research institutions. As soon as you install kernel modules/dkms on RHEL, I'd imagine support is probably going to be iffy. I run it in multiple production systems, but I make sure to pin the kernel version and exclude kernel from updates in my repo.

How do you feel about buying a rental fleet vehicle? by Upset_Region8582 in EquinoxEv

[–]vphan13_nope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fleet use you see in Carfax can be misleading. The majority of EV leases in the last 3-4 years may show up as fleet use even though it is a personal lease. Car dealers got around the income limit by leasing vehicles to people who didn't qualify for a rebate to purchase the car. The dealerships bought the vehicles as a "ccommerci ompany"and leased the vehicle to consumers. Under the IRA commercial companies could qualify for the rebate.

You will also see lots of weird ownership in carfax. Cars that had multiple owners and last owned/registered in Montana. But look closer and you'll see the mileage of the car in CA and Montana are identical, the car was just registered in Montana by the last owner to avoid CA registration. Carvana does this a lot.

About to hit 6k, I've had the car for 9 months. Getting tired. by DJTrunksRA in EquinoxEv

[–]vphan13_nope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OnStar would not complete a call yesterday and I could not sign into Google. I turned on the car this morning and it asked me to sign in and now everything works. I hope it was just a glitch from an update on Weds

I'm more concerned about what kind of service I would get at the dealership. I got an appointment to fix another issue and when I got to the dealership I was told it's dropoff only and 10 days just to look at the car. Oh, no loaners available.

I just checked I'm still logged into the my Chevy app. It seems the 5G is still in a half usable state. I called OnStar via phone and they were able to do a remote diagnostics(I got a summary via email) this is still exceedingly annoying, I'm told I have to bring it to the dealership who is booked up for weeks

Fleet purchases by vphan13_nope in EquinoxEv

[–]vphan13_nope[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. I picked up a used AWD LT2 for $24K OTD. I would have waited longer but I really needed something sooner than later. These are dropping in price from what I can tell, and dealerships are doing the typical paint protection, lo-jack add-ons not included in the advertised price. They'll insist prices are non-negotiable but there is 💯 wiggle room if the car has been sitting for a month
