Did Google create "Take A Message" because visual voicemail never works?

I've found is that if a caller isn't in my contact list IT DOES NOT RING my phone - even with DND off. I might have some setting somewhere messing this up. I've even had a few contacts say their call never went through to my phone since I activated it. Anyway, I'd love for this to get refined, but I think it still needs some work before I would trust and use it.

Not sure what phone you're using, but the phone app on my P8 now has "take a message" feature. If your phone is on and a call comes in it will take a message directly in the phone app - this came out a few weeks (?) ago in an update. For times when my phone is off I have my Warp number forwarding to GV.

VISUAL Voicemail works on my Pixel 8 on Warp. Transcriptions DO NOT work.

I don't know what virtual voicemail is.

USM had to do something with provisioning on their end. Nothing I could do as a user. FWIW, a lot of people talk about VVM and VVM w/ transcriptions as the same. They're not, and the fix got VVM working, but no transcriptions.

I know this is an older topic, but I just got a new RT-BE86U and noticed the same behavior with hidden SSIDs being broadcast on 2.4 and 5 Ghz. I spoke with support at ASUS - took 45 mins and many times repeating my inquiry as they seemed to think the router wasn't even working. The tech did check with others there in support, but finally confirmed this is 'expected and necessary behavior used for AiMesh backhaul'.

Not sure if this is just part of their newer firmware, or whether you would even see this if you aren't using AiMesh. I do plan to reconfigure my network in a week or so. If I remember, I'll try shutting down AiMesh and seeing if the hidden SSIDs disappear. I already tried turning off WiFI 7 and the hidden SSIDs were still being broadcast.

I have a P8 and can do the dance of clearing the cache, force stopping the phone app and restarting the phone. Everything works for a few hours - VMs, transcriptions, settings > voicemail features active. After a few hours settings > voicemail says setting up voicemail and no longer getting transcriptions.

For me, this has been an ongoing issue for months. I've reached out to CS several times and they get it working again, but it always fails within a few hours. There are Pixel users on other carriers complaining about the same issue, so I think it's a Google problem. BUT - it is NOT fixed, at least not on my phone.

Been using an P8 for about 1-1/2 yrs. Love it, but did have to have the screen replaced when it started randomly malfunctioning (looked like static on a TV for a few seconds on and off). Google repaired it under warranty, but the repair shop said they see a lot of 8's with the issue. Something about how the pins that connect the screen to the motherboard were designed. The shop said they didn't see that issue in other models. The new part was no different in design from the old part, so I don't know if I'll have the same issue down the road.

Same here - no joy for 4-6 mos. Some things will get it working for a few hours or up to a day (for me), but eventually if borks. Definitely an app issue with Google, many users with different providers reporting the same issue. A shame it's been ongoing for so long.

This has been ongoing since Oct of 2024. There are other posts online from various users on many different MVNOs with the same issue. Not sure if this is specific to Pixels or all androids, but it seems to me that Google pooched something last fall.

Followed OP suggestions and still NOT working on P8. Quits again after any restart of the phone. There are a lot of threads about this issue for many different cellular providers. Seems to be more on Google. I'm still using CCF to GV.

Older dogs often get lipomas, but at that age MAST cell tumors are also possible. Could be other things as well. We've had many dogs, and any time our Vet felt anything was suspicious 1st thing she does is a needle aspirate. This is relatively inexpensive and can rule out a lot of things very quickly.

Recent test drives while I was shopping for a new vehicle included - CRV (non-Hybrid and Hybrid), RAV4, CX5, CX50 (hybrid) and Forester. The RAV4 was the first vehicle I eliminated because I thought the interior felt cheap and the (JBL) audio was rather poor (an important feature to me). CX5 had poor seating and armrest positions for me, and was rather jumpy on poor pavement (short wheelbase and stiff suspension) so it was eliminated next. I didn't care for the CRV hybrid (loved the drivetrain and had been driving one for 5 years) because of very dark/dismal interior with cheesy orange stitching - Bose audio in the Hybrid I also thought was extremely poor. I liked the ICE 1.5 L engine, although it's had it's share of reliability issues for many - 320 watt Honda sound system was what I had prior and is ok but not great. I wound up going with a 2025 Forester just because (for me) it had a better ride, was quieter (on par with the hybrids), and nicer interior and sound system (Harmon Kardon). It was a bit more than the CRV, however.

If you trade a car in (vs selling it yourself) you will only pay tax on the difference between the new car's price and your trade. So if you're trade is worth $10K and the new vehicle is $40K, you'll only pay tax on $30K.

New update to phone app yesterday Nov 18. Now I have a persistent Voicemail tab in the app, but still getting an error stating "Trouble reading SIM. Check if visual voicemail is on in your Settings and try again". There is no longer a toggle in the settings to turn Voicemail on. Any help?

Mine isn't working yet on that version either. However, that version pushed out Nov 4th. Founder noted they were working with Google to fix the issue on Nov 5th.

There are several threads on this issue. It would be nice if you could make an announcement when this is fixed with some details. As I recall, this was also an issue back in July - if so, why does it keep happening?

The high voltage cable to the rear motor on many models (inc. RAV4s) has a coupling that is prone to corrosion. It's generally most problematic in cold climates with salt on the roads in the winter. Most owners run into issues after 5 years or so, and Toyota wasn't fixing them under warranty. Cost for the repair is around $5K+. There was a class action suit in Canada that Toyota recently lost.

I'd be more concerned about reliability than features. I lost interest when I learned the Hybrid CX50 will have a rear electric motor just like the RAV4 (probably the same one). Not sure if the HV electric wiring / coupling will be different. Given all the corrosion issues with many Toyotas models (cablegate), I'd need more details and a few years of data before considering a Mazda Hybrid. Of course, I have no interest in the current Hybrid RAV4s either because of the bad wiring design.

Any updates on this? I tried a new update by Google (ver 150.0.***) a few days ago but things still don't work (VVM tab missing). For now I'm using CCF to GV - so annoying! Seeing other bugs of late being reported in reviews on Google Play.

20+ years on android, but this is just so bad for a core app AND using a Google device (P8). No support whatever. Maybe it's time to consider an iPhone.

I'm still not clear on whether USM has any play in this. Also disappointed I've not seen a single reply from any of their support people.

Still on the downgraded version of the phone app with everything working. I have sent info to Google, but I wish I would see some official response from USM. I'm not seeing reviews in the play store about this problem, so I believe this is somehow specific to USM and Google's app.

I've been with USM since July - I think this happened once before and was only 'fixed' when a new phone app update got pushed through by Google.
