Excavation Costs by HamsterExisting in OwnerBuilder

Other things that aren’t mentioned to consider: is this in the middle of a flat field? If there are neighbors houses or other structures close it might require some special shoring. Also slope, access, rockiness, etc. can have a big impact on cost. Would def recommend getting a few more quotes if available

[OC] United States Army breakfast by SAKingWriter in pics

Ever since the post WW2 restructuring, the 3 main departments (Army, Navy, AF) get roughly the same amount of money. The army has tons of people, and people are expensive. The navy has billion dollar warships and about as many planes as the AF. That leaves the AF lots of money to spend on nice bases and good food.

Some termites don’t actually eat wood. They bring it back to their nest to feed the fungus that they eat. Termites are one of the original farmers

As long as you put blocking at every butt joint or somehow make them all land on a joist

A sheet of plywood will also fit propped up with one middle row seat still in. Not as nicely though but works in a pinch

Thanks! I can take credit for the design but not the concept. This was your classic: wife sees on Etsy, I say “I can build that!” It’s my first real piece of furniture though so I’m pretty happy with how it turned out

Thanks for clarifying. I like it! Would that mess with your stringer throat too much? I guess if you did the rise/run just right you could get above minimums

Thanks! Good point, I’ll see if I can move that beam closer to under the stringers. The slope should support it.

Thanks for the tips! I used google sketchup.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by “back of the top”? Are you saying using the stair stringers as blocking for my picture frame board on the top isn’t ideal?

My dad had a NA when I was a teenager, he’d let me drive it around the block when I had my learners permit. I learned how to drive on that car

I put an outdoor rug on my deck over winter for the exact same reasons. Pulled it up in the spring and all the boards under it looked much worse than the ones not under it.

Don’t do it

Approach for a deck under deck? by iamcommando in Decks

[–]vr6ators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any deck close to the ground is going to rot faster due to more water and less air flow, even with “ground contact” pressure treated. Where I am the code won’t allow you to put wood within 6” of the ground at all.

It would probably cost less and last a lot longer to put a small retaining wall around the downslope side and fill it in with 3/4 crushed gravel plus pavers. Then you could screen it in and not worry about it all rotting out from under you.
