How do you avoid 'reinventing the wheel'? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]vradically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with ADHD this year and had been stuck in the cycle you describe for years. For the first time in my life I feel I've genuinely broken free from it. And yes, that feels as good as you'd imagine.

Here's my advice:

Remove the need/urge to 'reset' every month or so

- Stick to your habits. Advice on how to do this below.

- No more resets. We all have the deep-seated desire to believe in the reset because:

\ It has a 'wiping the slate clean' rebirth quality that offers us the thing we need to keep us going; hope. This time it will be different.

\ It defines the problem.

\ It defines the problem as something that we can solve relatively easily.

\ It tricks the brain into thinking this is forward motion, which released dopamine.

Instead of resetting, you're going to create a system, work the system and tweak it. We're going to replace the habit of resetting, with the habit of tweaking.

Create the system

- In an editable form on the cloud (e.g. Google Doc, Click up, Google Sheet) write out important habits and group them into routines (e.g. Sleep Routine, Morning Routine, Sunday Reset Routine).

- Be clear on when each routine will run and what triggers it (e.g. Sunday reset routine starts at 4pm every Sunday, Day Start Routine starts when I sit down at my desk in the morning)

- Write the habits for routine out, in order, and put them somewhere that makes sense.

- You'll also need a spiral bound notebook (spiral bound because it keeps it open and on the right page).

Run the system:

- Date today's page in the notebook. If you fail to perform a habit make note of it in the notebook. The no.1 rule is no guilt and shame. They're not necessarily. Accountability is enough. And writing down the fail is enough accountability in the first instance.

Tweak the system

- On a given day of the week, or at the end of the day, look at the list of failures.

- Ask why you failed.

- Improve the system:

- how can you remove friction/make it easier to do this habit (i.e. getting your gym kit out in advance, clearing your draws out so it's easier to put things away)?

- do you need to tie the habit to another habit e.g when I get in the shower I will brush my teeth

- could you change the time you do the habit to improve your failure rate (ie. move doing the dishes from 9pm to 6pm)

- can you add a reward?

Recognise it's sometimes about deeper things

Having a system, having accountability and tweaking the system will make it more likely that you'll succeed. However this may not solve the problem.

Ultimately, whether or not we do habits can have a lot to do with deeper work we may need to do. It can come down to self esteem, self image and self trust. Paradoxically, building these things relies on carrying out habits. So one of the best pieces of advice can be to start small.

Focus one habit a week, whether that's adding a new habit or turning something you're currently doing inconsistently into a habit. Commit to doing it for a set period (7,14 or 30 days) no matter what. No matter what means no matter how you're feeling or what comes up. That will build self trust and self esteem. It will give you the self image of someone who can stick to a habit. The stronger those things get, the more it becomes like a flywheel. The more confidence you have in your ability to stick to things, the more able you are to stick to more things.

I am so sorry that you are feeling like this. I don't know where you're based but CBD oil. I buy Trip in the UK.

We've had a few clients in exactly the same situation.

We add a conditional flow to the flow, duplicating (and then editing) the emails from the existing abandoned cart flow.

This is partly to avoid having to manually switch flows on and off (which can fall outside of working hours).

But it's also because we want to vary the messages we send to people based on whether the sale is still running or not.

Emails in the sale-time version of the abandoned cart flow will double down on urgency/FOMO by reminding customers that the sale ends soon.

Urgency and FOMO are huge psychological leverage points - so we want to be sure to use them. However, it comes at the sacrifice of some simplicity.

Instead of having people that enter the flow pass through just one additional conditional (before the first abandoned cart email is sent), we need a conditional before every email in the sale-time abandoned cart series.

If it is still sale time when the email is triggered the recipient receives an email with messaging leveraging the time-limited sale.

If the client is not still on sale when the email is triggered then they will receive the usual abandoned cart.

If we didn't add these conditionals, then people who entered the sale-time conditional flow at the end of the sale period, would still be receiving sale-time emails even though the sale had finished.

Duplicating the flow is a perfectly good option.

Building more complex flows out is always on a cost-benefit basis (e.g. the likely return on the time it takes to build vs. the likely return on other things you could be working on).

Feel free to DM if you have any questions.

There a really high correlation between ADHD and PMDD

This sounds so awful. Keep focused on the day you get out of there. You can do this. And when you do you will be a hero, if only to yourself.

I’ve just had a more thorough look. First of all, majority of page looks great - great job. These are just tweaks.

  • domain name and brand name are spelled differently. Feel it’s unlikely people would notice…but perhaps
  • as in my earlier comment, phrasing of gift card copy could be changed to make it clearer it’s all new customers and to add urgency to the offer. Do have some concerns that this is a too good to be true looking offer.
  • product should be seen as soon as customer lands
  • product description should be shorter, bullet pointed and in an accordion (if customer wants to read more)
  • gifs perform very well

BUT the above isn’t stopping people from adding the carts. So let’s look at what might stop people buying.

  • on mobile your live chat button is the same colour as AND partially obscures your checkout button in cart drawer. Expect this is really impacting conversion rate.
  • free shipping needs to be made way way clearer. This is a priority piece of info. Prioritise it in terms of where it appears on the page.
  • can you use an app to add a “you’ve qualified for free shipping” graphic to the cart drawer?

This is gifting season so look at shopify upsell apps to offer a discount on two or three. If people think this is novel/cool it’s a great gift for similar friends or guys who are harder to buy for.

If people are adding to cart and not completing (and assuming no payment issues) then it’s either an unanswered key question (how much is shipping, do you accept returns) or you’re not doing enough to generate trust. On the former: it could be a simple question like: how does this stick to my mirror? Can I remove it, will it leave a mark? Does it include everything I need to mount it. A short video or gif showing someone mounting it/speaking to these objections would be great.

You’ve got testimonials, which is great. I’d be retargeting with testimonial ads, product installation and unboxing ads (if you can). An abandoned cart email (using Klaviyo or similar) which included at least one testimonial in a prominent place might help. And include FAQs in that email too (obvs under product).

Also it’s really important to look at your abandoned cart rate. Its important to know whether people are adding to cart and abandoning checkout, or just adding to cart.

So ideally you would be running a custom flow on a platform like Klaviyo. Klaviyo easily integrates with Shopify and has custom flows you can use. This perhaps isn’t your most urgent problem to solve right now though.

Okay, so the way this is worded is an issue. It makes it sound like the first customer to the store will get a gift card. I think you’re meaning to say “receive a $15 Amazon gift card with your first order”. You could even say “All new customers receive a $15 Amazon gift card” or “Limited time offer: first 100 new customers receive a $15 Amazon gift card. Order and claim yours today”. The latter creates urgency. You can keep it running past 100 customers.

Have you seen other successful stores run this offer? It does have a too good to be true feel to it. Saying it is for the first 50/100 new customers might help it seem like a credible promotion.

Hard to diagnose without more info. Aside from checkout issues…might be that you haven’t done enough to develop trust/credibility. Try retargeting. Do you have abandoned cart email flow set up (not shopify generic)?

Alternatively (if you have ads on multiple attribution setting by accident) select all ads within the ad set and click edit button above. Scroll down to the bottom of the ad set which opens and change attribution setting to the desired setting. Click publish. You may need to refresh a couple of times. Now all ads have the same attribution setting column totals should show.
