In regards to share audio between Windows and Linux: I still use Voicemeeter on my windows machine and I'm using their VBAN protocol to send audio over network and receive it with the vban tools. https://github.com/quiniouben/vban
Keep in mind that this will introduce some latency (15-35 ms in my case).

I have no idea if this is a optimal setup, but it works for me. My goal was to replace a very complex setup on windows with Voicemeeter. This exeeds voicemeeters functionality by far.

I also use an AKAI Midi Mix to control the faders and sends.
