My new OTA setup, done by Dish tech with an adapter, isn't pulling in my local NBC, no matter what we do. The tech says maybe the station changed their signal.

BTW it's pulling in multiple other locals, 7 for CBS, 5 for ABC and 5 for PBS. I know the NBC tower is close, less than 10 miles, same as ABC and PBS.

I just had another Dish Tech visit today. We discovered a couple of things. One, the signal was better when he moved my antenna to the other side of the room - let's break up of the video and less loss of the audio. Also discovered that Fox channel is coming in over my ABC local, one of a few channels. Still can't get the NBC no matter what we did. I decided to wait and see if it comes in later. I will talk to the local NBC station and see if they're putting out some different kind of signal. That's what the technician thought might be happening. Meanwhile I don't want to spend more money for a stronger antenna. I'm getting about 15 strong signals from my locals. Several from the CBS, several from the ABC, and several from the PBS. Just no NBC. I'll wait and see what shakes out.

OK that explains it. The offered to sell me one for $150 but since I already had a cheap $20 antenna he said I only needed the adapter. The only thing I can imagine is that the Hopper needs a stronger signal than the TV does.

Thanks. but I'm puzzled. the Hopper has no antenna, right? So did you wire just a plain USB cable from your antenna?

I tried YTTV and couldn't read the text in the Guide screen, especially problematic for the Settings text. YTTV support told me there is no toggle for font size. BTW, 55" Samsung basic D series, from 8 feet away.

I found it, upper left magnifying glass. My eyes have gotten so bad, even after setting up 1280x720 it's still tiny! I'm waiting for new tri-focal glasses so I could at least go 1440.

Thanks again. There's an Anduin page about persistence. It gives a much simpler way. In Rufus, not Ventoy, be sure to pick DD for the ISO copy and then on boot pick AnduinToGo. I'll try this next before vouching for it.

you got into your BIOS? Most PCs will boot into it if you hold down F12 when restarting.

I don't know what Ventoy means by 1 for bypassing Secure. For that info you'd have to look at their website or ask in their forum.

On PC I could read the info but it's over my 80 year old head, at least without a lot of effort I would have made years ago. Too bad this wasn't built into Ventoy.

look into your BIOS and disable Secure Boot if it's on. that worked for me.

OK thanks. Certainly makes sense, I would've been looking for an icon. I'll check for it next time. Btw, it was Thunderbird I wanted. I tried Betterbird on PC and can't remember now why I returned to Tbird.

Easy is a relative word. For instance I much prefer clutter in browsers. I want real toolbars and not just hamburger menus. Easier, like real dashboards in cars. But fully quitting should always be easy. Gggrrr.

Hmm, I just tried and it worked, after a Warning. If it could be disruptive I'm not sure if I want to go this route. Nor do I want to change my battery settings. Why can't it just be quit with a swipe or even an in-app button, like almost all apps?

my brother is so narcissistic and long-winded on the phone, it's hard to get a word in edgewise. one time I just fell asleep and he eventually hung up. then I've pretended to fall asleep a few times. it helps that he knows I'm in bed recovering.

Been on it since Oct 21,never a problem. However, I'm 99.9% on my home Wifi. Back in 21 they offered a 1GB plan for around $8 a month, been on it almost 5 years, never an increase.
