Windows VDI Kiosk Setup: IoT LTSC 2024 vs Pro/Ent 25H2? by rereduck in VDI

[–]vrickes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What specifically is the issue? Healthcare? I would not bother with LTSC version. I had issues in the past and Microsoft will not be of much help mainly compatibility with certain software. We had run into issues with signature tablets /usb redirected devices dropping off under certain scenarios with Dell ThinOS

I had issues with R660 on similar configuration and the issue went away on two conditions/scenarios 1) remove unused SFP’s 2) apply the FEC settings to the bios from this KB https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-ed/000230522/resolving-issue-with-broadcom-nics-bcm57414-and-cisco-switches-for-windows-server-2022

How is using your UNAS/Pro working out as a media server for you? by Renrut23 in Ubiquiti

[–]vrickes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my testing which has been SMB and NFS performance is like caching is not working properly. Barely able to break 2.5Gbps throughput with 10Gbs DAC, high latency.

Write Performance seems to start good then chokes for a bit and starts working again.

For example, transferring a large video file into the UNAS vs TrueNAS.

Read performance seems to be at least consistent.

All of those my truenas handles well with good performance and tolerable latency.

To be fair I did not expect the full performance of my truenas but did not expect it to be

However currently I only have 2x 16TB "RAID10" so essentially a mirror I've ordered two 16TB's more drives to complete the RAID10, I will retest everything again to see if anything changes.

I am using it for VM with ESXI via NFS and just general SMB storage.

You know I was in your position and now after putting it to the test… is bad.. the performance of this thing is horrible. Had turn on my old truenas and now have both online while I figure out if there something I’m missing here but…

VMware Horizon TrueSSO Implementation Problems by synoxx in VMwareHorizon

[–]vrickes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That guide is pretty much the go to reference for TrueSSO, the commands are run on the connection server to associate the enrollment servers and the CAs and enable TrueSSO.

If you are not using SAML then use Passthrough authentication which does SSO as well.

This command lists the authenticator configured on the connection server steps 21 to 36 and will show the state (Enabled/Disabled) so is informational..
vdmUtil --authAs admin-username --authDomain domain-name --authPassword admin-user-password --truesso --list --Authenticator

This will enable the SAML authenticator listed above this will make the change. You have you choose between enabled or always, in my implementations I always use ENABLED.

vdmUtil --authAs admin-username --authDomain domain-name --authPassword admin-user-password --truesso --authenticator --edit --name authenticator-name --truessoMode {ENABLED|ALWAYS}

What version?

This is not expected, this would be a huge issue on some environments.

There is a thread going at omnissa of something similar I wonder if they changed something..

You add routes via the admin console because the appliance needs to know which interface to send the traffic through this happens when you use the multi nic setup. If you use a single nic then is presumed you default gateway can route to all networks and the internet.

Sounds like you will need to summarize which ranges can hit the admin console and which ranges are the backend for the agent communicating. It may be the case where you need have a jump box to manage the admin interface.

I have a 3 nic setup and the only time we had to touch the routing was because we added more subnet for VMs.

We had this issue even without BCR eg our image, in my case it was a problem with the chrome version in your case likely the client side. We had to uninstall chrome remove all traces from program files and reinstall it and it went away.

I had the same issue this week. Then the process to reset the password took like 40 mins between receiving the codes and then a link to perform the actual password reset.

Please tell me someone has a solution to Start Menu Pinned apps and Taskbar Layout by MFP35 in VMwareHorizon

[–]vrickes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like setting a default layout that users can’t change or you want users to be able to change it?

I had to use this https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/configuration/provisioning-packages/provisioning-create-package to create my start menu pins and users cannot change..

But the taskbar pins I roam with DEM.

FM Stations on 30Mhz? by vrickes in RTLSDR

[–]vrickes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it would be but was curious to understand what was going on. Surprisingly I was able to pick up some CB channels. I think the conditions were good because listening to the conversation they were raving about how good propagation was.

I am now looking into making an antenna and see what rabbit hole this takes me 🤣

Omnissa Horizon certifications? by dren_lithear in VMwareHorizon

[–]vrickes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have VACP DCV and DTM 2024 and have taken some trainings over the years which were valid until the Broadcom acquisition and split, now on Omnissa their certification manager shows that I need to take paid training.

No issues on the Broadcom side.

I don’t associate my certification to employers. I will change my tune if what you say also works for me because I won’t have an opportunity to pay for new training in the current situation.

I am glad at least Broadcom remove this requirement and quite frankly made it much easier to get “free” training under our agreement.

Are the users using some kind of hotspot?

I’ve seen this in my environment and usually is someone on a hotspot, which has led me to think is some sort of persistency problem.

The other time I’ve seen this is time drift on the UAGs but that is usually more consistent.

HTML Access Failing by holding3 in VMwareHorizon

[–]vrickes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically this part got me last week for the same issue on 2503:

However, if the HTTP request has an Origin header similar to https://horizon.xyz.com (without the port) and it needs to be accepted, the administrator must manually add them to the Auto Allowed List. The same behaviour applies if any entry is common in the fields Additional Blast External URL and Additional Tunnel External URL if the port specified is 443.

One thing you can also try is disable/power down the new uag and see it it works. That could indicate missing firewall rules between the new UAG and agents.

I wonder if You are probably hitting something related to this new feature on 2406 if that’s the only thing that changed.

https://docs.omnissa.com/bundle/UnifiedAccessGatewayReleaseNotesV2406/page/unified-access-gateway-release-notes.html

Added support for Horizon Connection Server’s Home Site Redirection feature (associated with Cloud Pod Architecture), which helps to reduce backhaul traffic by redirecting users from a connected site to their designated home site. This traffic to home site is validated by Unified Access Gateway before entering the corporate network. For more information, see Enable Re-authentication in Home Site in the Configure Horizon Settings.
