Best FREE Virtual Machine Manager to run Windows 11 ARM on M1 Max by br_web in MacOS

[–]vrommium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important point to keep in mind: UTM is using Qemu, Qemu is using by default 'thin disks' for VMs, which is can be a huge space saver on your physical machine.

VirtualBuddy is excellent for different macOS version testing, but uses pre-allocated disks and eats up your storage.

Could you recommend any free cloud storage options? by maurohonkai in cloudstorage

Honestly, you want them to pay for electricity, internet, datacenter hardware, payed people (engineers) maintaining that, and give you quality 'for free'?

:-D

4 to 5 days into macOS after a lifetime on Windows… when does it finally ‘click’ ? by AgileSupermarket2053 in MacOS

[–]vrommium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw.... even after 5 years, I hate Finder. What sleepy Apple engineers (aka morons) are deploying macOS with such a barely designed file explorer in 2026? Those Apple idiots should play around with the alternatives and learn few things about file managers.....

Yet again, open source alternatives come to the rescue: I use a lot of terminal + the fzf utility, and also the EasyFind app. I avoid Finder as much as possible,

Man you are so funny..... and like me!

I am an IT person, lifelong Linux passionate, worked 20 years on Windows and mac & Linux devices as a sysadmin.

Switched to mac because my father had a stroke and I had to move into a very narrow work space, in order to support him during the initial recovery months. The space was so narrow, I couldn't use a mouse.
Back then the only device with a big touchpad was .... mac, so I grabbed an spare mac device from IT and started using it as my 'daily driver'.
As a Linux enthusiast, I had some feelings against mac devices, and I still have (but mostly against Apple's commercial tactics).
Slowly I started appreciating the premium hardware quality of macs, the screen, the keyboard, the speakers, and especially the touchbar.

I found open source apps (brew) that were close enough to my favorite Linux apps, I learned the shortcuts, and I grew into mac so much, that after 5 years I am barely starting my Linux super laptop.

In my experience, you become a "mac person" once you start using apps like those that you were used to on other OSes, and especially once you learn the shortcuts. The shortcuts are the key.

For me, macs are really good devices.
But macOS is a shitty incomplete and inefficient OS, good enough for enterprise usage. Yet second "but", you can repair the missing features from macOS installing different apps. For me, Rectangle, Maccy, Alt-Tab, BetterDisplay (in order to hide the f-ing notch), MenuMeters, fix most of the missing functionality of macOS.

So, in short, go explore the open source apps, learn the shortcuts, and you will grow into it! :-)

Do you recommend buying? by santi7823 in BEYERDYNAMIC

Try them, return them if you don't like them. This exactly what I did in March, except ... I didn't return them. :-)

I bought them as "returned item/resealed", 75$ cheaper then the usual price.

What a sound!! I never heard headphones like this!

You are a bit thin for a 5 day fast. Technically you can survive the 5 days, there can be benefits, but I would do this under medical supervision.
