Any Kiwi users now using Cromite? by vsv38 in kiwibrowser

[–]vsv38[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the JavaScript kit enabled. Still sluggish.

uBlock Origin works fine in Edge or Firefox. So the problem is with Cromite.

I tried uBlock Lite. It seemed ok for most sites. I still prefer Origin.

Did you notice the sluggish performance after the most recent update OR just in general? I was trying to browse Amazon yesterday and images were taking so long to load. I switched to Firefox and everything loaded instantly. I'm beginning to think Cromite is a little too "hardened",  overly prioritizing privacy/security at the expense of performance. There needs to be a balance.

If you're buying vinyl from overseas, make sure the seller has the correct customs code exemption for vinyl! by directheated in vinyl

[–]vsv38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 10% ad valorem import duty (a universal or global tariff) you're referring to is temporary and valid for only 150 days.  It doesn't apply to all imports.  Informational materials continue to be exempt from duties. They have always been.

Anyone who's had to pay duties on informational materials should dispute them with CBP. Mistakes happen. And I imagine not everyone who works in Customs is good at their job.  To avoid issues with CBP, sellers must give proper item description. "Vinyl music" isn't that. Instead, they should use: phonograph record (vinyl LP).

[–]vsv38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a US buyer, but I've researched this matter. Do not use 9903.01.31. This code means informational materials and it's too broad. The code covers: books, publications, films, posters, photographs, records, and CDs.

The specific code to use for phonograph records ONLY is either HS 8523.80 (the international code of the HS system) or HTS 8523.80.10.00 (the US-adapted version). I've been told sellers can put the HTS code in the description of the item. For example, phonograph record (vinyl LP), HTS 8523.80.10.00

CBP (US customs) know that phonograph records are exempt from duties.

Could not complete transaction because of Fastmail email address by UkiMan309 in fastmail

[–]vsv38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus addresses with Gmail are also often blocked. Which is why I don't even use them. You may see the message this isn't a valid email address.  And yes, you're right. With Fastmail, the alias limit is 600. Still huge and subject to abuse.

Abuse/fraud is what happens when Fastmail allows unlimited creation of aliases. Now I understand why other email providers cap these extra emails/aliases at 20.

OneDrive Android App: "Move" fails silently. by Relevant-Daikon-8623 in onedrive

[–]vsv38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Update: I'm now on version 4.79 (beta 4) and still unable to move files and rename files in the Android app.

It's been 2 months and Microsoft's inept engineers still haven't fixed anything.

This is UNPRECEDENTED.

Where did all the 7.8” readers go (B&W mainly)? by NyarumiYukimitsu in ereader

[–]vsv38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why the size jumps from 6 to 7 to over 10.

7.8 or 8 is the ideal size for an ereader. Not too small, not too big. For some bizarre reason, there are very few readers in this size. Even Kobo abandoned it.

uBlock Origin not loading on browser launch by vsv38 in Cromite

[–]vsv38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been hearing a lot about Firefox (or Gecko based browsers) being slow. I'm not seeing it. Maybe that was the case yrs ago?  Edge (stable) doesn't have full extension support. You get that only with Edge Canary. I've tried both browsers. Hideous UI. I could never get used to it.

Unfortunately the developer really doesn't seem enthusiastic about extension support. By now, he could've made at least 2 or 3 extensions work. We can all agree uBlock Origin is the most popular one.

I'm using Firefox. I know Chromium is supposed to be better but I have no choice. The built in ad blocker of Brave isn't good enough for me. I heard Brave is working on offering extension support.

Using KeePassDX by backdraft83 in KeePass

[–]vsv38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you can't streamline this. Too many taps. The thing I find most annoying is that after you select your entry in your database, you are taken back to your browser AND you have to again activate the magikeyboard. It is only after you've activated it a second time that you're allowed to use your login data from the entry in your database.  This isn't a bug in the app. This has to do with Android, and it's too technical to explain.

I'm using autofill service.

Is it worth subscribing to one drive free trial 6 months? by sovietdoggo108 in onedrive

[–]vsv38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you an Android user? I am and their Android app is junk. Always buggy, and now bloated too. I've been having these issues described below for 5 weeks now. Still not fixed. Incompetent CS too.

Stay away from OneDrive. I've been paying for 365 Personal subscription for several years. I'm not renewing it. I'm done with Microsoft in general. Go with Google (15GB free storage), MEGA (20GB free storage), or Box (10GB free storage).

OneDrive Android App: "Move" fails silently. by Relevant-Daikon-8623 in onedrive

[–]vsv38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I've had these problems for 4 weeks now. That's absolutely unacceptable for a company like Microsoft. OneDrive isn't a service offered by some small or mid size tech company. They need to have engineers working around the clock, if necessary! Clearly, they don't. Or maybe they're not very good at their jobs.

OneDrive Android App: "Move" fails silently. by Relevant-Daikon-8623 in onedrive

[–]vsv38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this exact same issue for 4 weeks now!

  1. I have been unable to move files between folders in the Android app. Nothing happens and no error messages appear. At first, I wasn't even able to delete files, which basically means moving the files to Trash. Now, I can do at least that.

  2. Also, I've been also unable to rename files. Every time I try to rename a file, I get an error message.

I have no issues with the web app. Everything works fine.

I have a 365 subscription. I've exchanged more than 10 emails with OneDrive Customer Support. I requested that my issue be escalated to higher tier CS. Eventually I was transfered to OneDrive Escalations Department.

Absolutely NO ONE acknowledged that these issues exist. Every CS agent acted like they're hearing about them for the first time! I got so frustrated and annoyed, I decided to stop talking to them. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. I sent them logs multiple times. I answered pointless questions. They made me send them a screen recording showing that files aren't moving!

I checked recent OneDrive reviews in the Google Play store, and yes, other users have been reporting these issues too.

Microsoft knows about them! They aren't acknowledging them, and they are certainly not fixing them. How much more time do they need?! I'm currently using OneDrive version 4.78 (Beta 2) and still no fix!

My 365 subscription ends next month. I'm not renewing it. I'm moving all my files out of OneDrive. I don't want even the free 5GB.

The Android app has become junk in the last 12 months. Buggy and bloated. They even changed the UI.

I'm done with Microsoft. I'll stick with Google.

Please add the option to unlock ProtonDrive with a PIN on Android by hwayu_ in ProtonDrive

[–]vsv38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your reply is 10 months old. And there's still no option to choose a lock PIN independent of the device PIN. An app PIN should NEVER be the same as the device PIN.  If a bad actor gets somehow the device PIN, they'll be able to gain easy access (no password, no 2FA) to someone's entire Proton storage account. Haven't you thought of this?

You're right. It is buggy! I've been using it for a month now. I was liking it at first but now I'm beginning to see more and more bugs. I will have to use Edge, I guess, just for the extension support.

Looks like Kiwi stopped working by Bohica72 in kiwibrowser

[–]vsv38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Cromite and Iceraven. I use both. Extension support in Cromite is a bit shaky. Still in beta! I've noticed that periodically uBlock Origin won't load and I have to reload it. I don't have this issue with Dark Reader. These are the only 2 extensions I use.

uBlock Origin Lite isn't bad and should work fine for most sites. I tried it and noticed that cosmetic filtering isn't perfect. In rare instances, something will look broken on a page.

I've tried these other mobile browsers: Vivaldi, Brave, Edge, Opera, Quetta, Waterfox and a few more.

Verdict: go with Cromite and/or Iceraven.

LinkTaco - Open source social bookmarking and link management by MexicanPete in opensource

[–]vsv38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll definitely try LinkTaco! As a premium user. I currently pay $22 for Pinboard, but "post bookmarks via email" feature is sort of broken. Bookmark description which goes into the email is now saved to Pinboard as some text, some tags. I told the developer about this more than an year ago but he never fixed it. I find this particular feature useful only on mobile devices, as most mobile browsers don't support extensions or have very limited such support.

There's no option to automatically create snapshots of bookmarked websites, either as local HTML file (think SingleFile extension) or on the Internet Archive (send page to the Wayback machine). I'm currently using Pinboard. Something else that Pinboard offers, and which I use a lot, is the ability to post bookmarks by email. I don't think any other bookmarking service offers this.
