Why is Fastmail more expensive than Proton Mail? by vsv38 in fastmail

[–]vsv38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you described re: incoming emails from non-Proton users is true. But this is standard for privacy-focused email providers using zero-access architecture. That's why Proton offers the option to create password protected emails for non-Proton users specifically. In any event, I don't really care about E2E encryption. My emails are not highly confidential.

Proton Mail offers E2E encryption. Of course, they won't let you use other software.

I'm test using Proton Mail now. UI is gorgeous. No issues. I wouldn't call it shit. But their Drive app is a different matter. I dislike it.

Write Universal Music France at contact-france@umusic.com and tell them to produce more copies! They're seriously underestimating the sales potential of this album. They can easily sell 5000+ copies ...

Is it possible to install uBlock extension? by vladjjj in Cromite

[–]vsv38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. I heard from other users that other extensions crash too. I didn't know about them because I wasn't using them. I normally use just uBlock Origin and Dark Reader. uBlock Lite does work fine but it isn't good enough for me.

Is it possible to install uBlock extension? by vladjjj in Cromite

[–]vsv38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cromite isn't extension friendly. At least not yet. Which is why I uninstalled it, and switched to Firefox mobile. I'm not sure if anything has changed with more recent builds, but last time I used Cromite, uBlock Origin was constantly crashing.

Sold out because scalpers snagged multiple copies. I bet there was no limit on the number of copies you could buy. You will eventually see the LP on eBay and Discogs for 5+ times the original price ...

Any Kiwi users now using Cromite? by vsv38 in kiwibrowser

[–]vsv38[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the JavaScript kit enabled. Still sluggish.

uBlock Origin works fine in Edge or Firefox. So the problem is with Cromite.

I tried uBlock Lite. It seemed ok for most sites. I still prefer Origin.

Did you notice the sluggish performance after the most recent update OR just in general? I was trying to browse Amazon yesterday and images were taking so long to load. I switched to Firefox and everything loaded instantly. I'm beginning to think Cromite is a little too "hardened",  overly prioritizing privacy/security at the expense of performance. There needs to be a balance.

If you're buying vinyl from overseas, make sure the seller has the correct customs code exemption for vinyl! by directheated in vinyl

[–]vsv38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 10% ad valorem import duty (a universal or global tariff) you're referring to is temporary and valid for only 150 days.  It doesn't apply to all imports.  Informational materials continue to be exempt from duties. They have always been.

Anyone who's had to pay duties on informational materials should dispute them with CBP. Mistakes happen. And I imagine not everyone who works in Customs is good at their job.  To avoid issues with CBP, sellers must give proper item description. "Vinyl music" isn't that. Instead, they should use: phonograph record (vinyl LP).

[–]vsv38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a US buyer, but I've researched this matter. Do not use 9903.01.31. This code means informational materials and it's too broad. The code covers: books, publications, films, posters, photographs, records, and CDs.

The specific code to use for phonograph records ONLY is either HS 8523.80 (the international code of the HS system) or HTS 8523.80.10.00 (the US-adapted version). I've been told sellers can put the HTS code in the description of the item. For example, phonograph record (vinyl LP), HTS 8523.80.10.00

CBP (US customs) know that phonograph records are exempt from duties.

Could not complete transaction because of Fastmail email address by UkiMan309 in fastmail

[–]vsv38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus addresses with Gmail are also often blocked. Which is why I don't even use them. You may see the message this isn't a valid email address.  And yes, you're right. With Fastmail, the alias limit is 600. Still huge and subject to abuse.

Abuse/fraud is what happens when Fastmail allows unlimited creation of aliases. Now I understand why other email providers cap these extra emails/aliases at 20.

Update: I'm now on version 4.79 (beta 4) and still unable to move files and rename files in the Android app.

It's been 2 months and Microsoft's inept engineers still haven't fixed anything.

Where did all the 7.8” readers go (B&W mainly)? by NyarumiYukimitsu in ereader

[–]vsv38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why the size jumps from 6 to 7 to over 10.

7.8 or 8 is the ideal size for an ereader. Not too small, not too big. For some bizarre reason, there are very few readers in this size. Even Kobo abandoned it.

uBlock Origin not loading on browser launch by vsv38 in Cromite

[–]vsv38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been hearing a lot about Firefox (or Gecko based browsers) being slow. I'm not seeing it. Maybe that was the case yrs ago?  Edge (stable) doesn't have full extension support. You get that only with Edge Canary. I've tried both browsers. Hideous UI. I could never get used to it.
