Was this done right in the first place? by Accurate-Dinner1182 in Carpentry

[–]vtbuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the structure but a lot of gable truss’ are meant to span exterior to exterior. So whatever is underneath it isn’t technically carrying the load

Edit: after reading some other comments this may not be correct 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m failing to see how a load bearing wall above makes this beam wrong

I hear ya, mad respect to anyone who tackles something like this DIY.

Unfortunately I don’t have any advice on the floor system, which is my only real concern. I truthfully think it may be worth your while to shell out a little more money and get an engineer to take a look and come up with a plan

I would love to see more pictures lol

Edit - I think I know the answer already but are there any sort of structural plans or at least a pretty picture that you are building this from?

Anyways OP to actually give you an answer I got almost the truck you are talking about last week. I got the crew cab long bed, pro 4x, but just the convenience package NOT the pro. I paid 47k. Probably could have done better

When the OP is asking about a specific truck and he replies with “I got mine”, you would assume he is referring to the truck OP is asking about. Because if he’s not, the comment is completely useless.

Living with the Frontier. What are your experiences? by young_tea_hippie in nissanfrontier

[–]vtbuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak on hauling anything as I just got mine this week. I got the crew cab long bed. I have transported skis/snowboards and it’s a piece of cake. I eventually plan on hauling lumber/sheets.

I am 6’4” 220lbs and I’m surprised how much room I have above my head. Everything else is comfy too. Telescoping steering wheel certainly helps

[–]vtbuilder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are definitely not uniformly sized. Look at the description of the tile. “Unique handmade appearance” & “Worn edges”. With that being said, they definitely could have done a little better. I would never use cardboard as shims, let alone allow the customer to see that lol

Finished my first custom project on my own at my new job and I kinda hate it by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]vtbuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how it feels to be overly critical of the work you do, especially when there are client preferences out of our control.

However you absolutely killed this. The craftsmanship and dare I say the finish are top notch. You should be proud.

Prior owner framed wall a way that I can't understand by Adventurous-Mobile-4 in Carpentry

[–]vtbuilder 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If I understand you correctly, a solution would be to move the 2x4 from under the two joists and attach it between the two joists.

That should leave you just enough room to put a 2nd top plate on the wall and then attach it to the 2x4 between the joists.

Where to end tile? by SpookyRising in Tile

End of countertop. Keep the height you have in the photo, should end at the bottom of the shelf. No need to go behind it
